The c99 Weekly Watch...a cooperative project

Through much of my life, Sunday morning was the time to watch intelligent discussion of the weeks news on “Meet the Press” or “Face the Nation”. The Sunday edition of the newspaper published its most detailed stories. Today the corporate media is doing its best to distract, distort, and mislead the public in order to maximize their profits by presenting their corporate propaganda as news. I think that is why many of us are here.

My little foray into the corporate media, aka caged-fighting, yesterday

Yes, I habitually read the Guardian and the NYT. I go to the sites several times a day. (My virtual cigarette break is to read the Bleacher Report on the Miami Dolphins--I smoke at least half a pack of those virtual cigarettes a day even in the offseason: some coldly focused socialist I am.) I mostly scan for news stories but do occasionally read opinion pieces. They are both ga ga over the Tim Kaine selection.

Sun AM – 7-24-2016 – Tim Kaine updates – what a horrible mistake – complete lunacy – does HRC staff have no memory of the buyers remorse voters had with Obama – Kaines nomination is one that only an extremely reckless person would ever consider or make

The Tim Kaine nomination is profoundly wrong. Wrong with an 50+% chance of being a profoundly horrible mistake for everyone in this county. A mistake that will hit the 98% of Americans who are not already Millionaires and Billionaires especially hard.

The three powerful reasons why no Democratic party US Senator - especially a harder to replace southern Senator - should be proactively taken from their Senate seat in the next 2 years are:

Enough with the Sanders excuses.

It would have been lovely. Better than lovely, in fact, if Sanders had won the nomination. At least we could hope he'd plot an effective course back to the New Deal policies the Democrats had before the disease of neo-liberalism started growing under Jimmy Carter, a process refined and accelerated by the vile pieces of shit we call the Clintons. It wouldn't have been an especially forward-looking program given the glaring absence of a plan, however well disguised, to end the rule of capital.

Disability Caucus 7/23/16: Welfare 'Reform' and Food Stamp Sanctions

Life is hell when you're disabled and the possibility of a decent, sustainable job is anything but open to you. It's even worse when you have to spend month after month submitting tons and tons of job searches and 'education' activities that do nothing to actually improve the situation. Worst of all, if you miss anything by even ONE day, you face the strong possibility of being 'sanctioned': That is, you're cut off from food stamps for one month. And that's just the first delinquency.

The Two Party System: Playing Russian Roulette using a revolver with 2 chambers, both loaded.

How has it has come down to this?

We have let two parties become so in control, and so corrupt that we no longer have a functional democracy.

We don't even have the ILLUSION of one anymore. We can't close our eyes and go about our lives in ignorant bliss.

This season has shone a spotlight on the corruption and rather than scatter like a cockroach it seems to bask in the openness of it.
