My little foray into the corporate media, aka caged-fighting, yesterday

Yes, I habitually read the Guardian and the NYT. I go to the sites several times a day. (My virtual cigarette break is to read the Bleacher Report on the Miami Dolphins--I smoke at least half a pack of those virtual cigarettes a day even in the offseason: some coldly focused socialist I am.) I mostly scan for news stories but do occasionally read opinion pieces. They are both ga ga over the Tim Kaine selection.

Gail Collins is sometimes pretty funny but has major Hillary love she can't quit like so many of the women of a certain age she wrote about in her column yesterday on the Clinton we don't know or do know or whatever. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/07/24/opinion/campaign-stops/behind-hilla...

She ends the column in breathless adoring fashion:

When she was still secretary of state, I asked Clinton about another presidential campaign and she waved the idea aside. Her future plans, she said, involved sleeping and exercising and traveling for fun. “It sounds so ordinary, but I haven’t done it for 20 years. I would like to see whether I can get untired,” she said.

She may never find out.

Here was my comment:

Francisco Nejdanov Solomin (Deep South)

We are the ones tired--of her. Clinton fatigue is the low-grade fever we must live with because Clinton will not be denied and prevented a truly new Democrat from saving the party from continued neoliberal dwindling. She's banking on our not wanting the blowhard fascist. And she wonders why she's not popular! She created a hostage crisis, and we are the hostages.

I know many of you are unwilling to be hostages, and I respect that. But I do feel like a hostage because of Clinton, and so do the vast majority of the Sanders supporters. We will be listening carefully to Sanders' words and for the most part following his lead. If he said to vote Green, most of us probably would, but he won't, because he feels like a hostage too.

It will be interesting. I may be caged but I'm still fighting, right? So, my friends, come forth and tell me to break out of the cage. Or empathize because this really stinks.

Feels like the old Daily Kos tip jar. Gee those were swell times.

You can use it as a tip Jar or not use it at all.

I feel like a hostage too. I feel as if a guest came to visit in 1990 and never left. Now they have squatter's rights, and I can't even evict them.

I like it too, and as a moderator, it somehow seems fitting to use.

When they started to require a subscription, I couldn't afford to read the NYT anymore. So I switched to Huffington Post. They always had some weird ass shit included on their front page, like "How to Have a Safe Three-Way" . . . WTF! But they also had many wonderful writers. Last year I had to ditch them too. Early on it was clear they were Hillary fans. Damn. They pushed her unapologetically . . . thinking they were balancing things out a bit by including H.A. Goodman. Eventually, they included a blog that ridiculed him too. (I still like him!)

I feel like a hostage too. IMO, we need to rise up and fight like hell! I can't run around the country demonstrating though, so looking for stuff to do.

Lots of tweets? Support local down ballot folks?

think the party could use a name change. I suggest The Plutocratic Party. The name illustrates that I don't belong just as George Carlin said.

I think at some point, everyone needs to acknowledge that the current system is fundamentally broken, and for that reason stuff like this is going to keep happening.

Two party politics constantly puts people in the position of having only two choices in a world that is not black and white. A third party does not, in practice, actually solve the problem. If you'd like an example, take a look at Israeli politics sometime. They have many parties and its arguably worse.

The interesting thing about all this is that we are not the only nation in the world with this proble. All the world struggles with it, with one notable exception. China.

Now, I'm not a favor of a lost of what happens in China. There are terrible humans rights abuses, and their climate change policies are essentially poisoning most of the population.

That having been said, as far as income inequality goes, the opposite is occurring there then everywhere else. For quite a few years, the average standard of living has been improving in China because they've been investing in infrastructure while we allow ours to die.

Party officers don't have the same electoral process we do. I'm not certain I fully understand it yet, but for all the corruption and abuses, I think its actually worth looking at and understanding how it works.

Ultimately, we advance when we look at how things have been done, and learn from our mistakes. I don't want to copy China, but they are an interesting exception in a world of people suffering from poverty.

that there that excellent exercise facilities and some sports programs are maintained at the various national Club Feds around the country. Plenty of opportunity to sleep long hours and leisure reading. Travel options are limited, though with a good attorney, you can play the real estate game to choose the prison that best suits your needs, Hillary.

Good luck.
