When you're down and troubled

photo qq_tgh.gifAnd you need some love and care,
And nothing, nothing is going right...

...then I find myself looking for something...anything...to brighten up even the darkest night.

There is Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton, who posted on Facebook about the anti-trans legislation the GOP is promoting in his state.

They are wrong on the issue and wrong on the morality of it in my opinion. I’ll veto it.

--Dayton

I personally am worried to go to the men’s bathroom because I get misgendered every day. I am not going in there to look at people, I am going in there to go to the bathroom and get out as fast as possible because even I don’t feel comfortable in there.

We've already lost North Carolina as a safe place to visit. That state just happens to be where my grandchildren live.

Kansas and Missouri are two place I have lived in my life (Leavenworth and Joplin). But Kansas is putting a bounty on trans people using restrooms. And Missouri legislators are similarly trying to dehumanize us.

It's almost like you're treating someone like they're not human, like they don't deserve the same thing as you.

--Landon Patterson, Oak Park, Missouri

Individual rights are under attack, but not for everyone and not everywhere. This is aimed at transgender people in many places across the country where Republicans hold power. This current attack on individual rights is spearheaded by the GOP, which right now should stand for Gender Oppression Party. Kansas is trying to implement a law where cisgender citizens are awarded $2500 for catching a transgender person in what they see as the “wrong” bathroom. What could possibly go wrong if that’s enacted?

--Marcy Cook, The Mary Sue

In Los Angeles a transwoman of color is murdered in broad daylight in front of a crowd of dozens...and in Rancho Cucomonga a trans veteran is refused a haircut by a barber who cites his religious rights.

Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

--1 Corinthians 11:14-15)

Of course one only gets there by refusing the trans guy's identity as a man.

This stuff is all about refusing transgender people the right to be who we are.

So where is the brightness?

It emanates from Delaware, which became the fifteenth state to ban insurance companies from limiting or excluding health care coverage for transgender people.

Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart issued a bulletin Wednesday that specifically prohibits private insurers from denying, canceling, terminating, limiting, restricting or refusing to issue plans based on a person's gender identity, transgender status or if the person is undergoing a gender transition.

Companies also cannot impose different health insurance premiums or rates based on a person's gender identity.

A denial or cancellation will now be considered a violation under Delaware's Unfair Trade Practices Act. The state approved legislation that added gender identity to Delaware's anti-discrimination laws. The state could fine insurers up to $50,000 or take legal action if they fail to comply.

Under the state's anti-discrimination act, “gender identity” means “a gender-related identity, appearance, expression or behavior of a person, regardless of the person’s assigned sex at birth.”

Those other places I mentioned above? They are filled with people who apparently are confined to a world in which chromosomes are destiny...and they don't really understand chromosomes.

An increasing number of large employers are voluntarily covering transgender treatment, following medical recognition that it can lead to healthier outcomes overall for the individuals involved. The number was up to 418 last year, from none in 2002, according to the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.

I voted for him before I moved. He's doing such a good job as governor, I'd really like to see him run for POTUS one day.

This shit is bananas.

I LOVE Governor Dayton. He's much to much of a kind and gentle soul to be put through that ordeal. I really believe that. He's had enough headaches running Minnesota. He's done enough. He fought for people like me, people to sick to fight (I was in chemo during that 2010-2012 repubadrunk takeover of both houses here). Mark is one of my favorite people. I think his heart must be in a really good place. I think he's a really great guy, he don't deserve D.C.

A lot of wanderers in the U.S. political desert recognize that all the duopoly has to offer is a choice of mirages. Come, let us trudge towards empty expanse of sand #1, littered with the bleached bones of Deaniacs and Hope and Changers.

It bothered me to see soo few comments here.
This diary(?) is an open invitation to think about, get to know and discuss issues related to our fellow humans who have a uniquely difficult path in our society. And of course, it's an invitation for other unique like humans to have a safe place to share thoughts and news and such. That's how I see it anyway.

I don't know much about trans-gender issues. I'm glad to see there is at least some legal happy news.
I've only had two experiences in my life where I knowingly was meeting a trans-gender person (Is a hermaphrodite considered trans-gender? if not then only one experience).

My first experience was a friend of my mom's. Helping remove old appliances and replacing them with the new ones.
The person appeared a man with a mustache to me but with a very feminine voice. I was 14, I was confused. Mom said she'd explain later and just go help get the old dryer out of the basement. She later explained what a hermaphrodite is. I was shocked, I'd never imagined such a thing could be. I remember thinking 'That's got to be hard a life to live in our world'.
My second experience was with a person at a bus stop. I wasn't sure what the deal was with this person was. It was apparent to me that there was something different about this person, looked a lot like a woman but also looked like a man dressed as a woman. This person was fit, beautiful, very well dressed and if I may say so, HOT!
I felt a compulsion and acted on it. I asked for permission to speak with them, then explained that I a compulsion to speak for why I do not know and that meant no offense and that if they would forgive me I'd like to say
'Damn you look good!
I received a smile and a touch on the cheek, one of those 'aren't you precious' kind of touches.

That's it, those are my only experiences where I knew I was knowingly interacting with a trans-gender type of person
For me personally, I don't care what people do in their bedrooms, or with who. Though I strongly do believe we should leave the kids and the animals alone sexually. I don't care what body parts you got or don't got, nor if your genes are slightly different than mine.
I only care about who you are, not what you are.
My philosophy is simple really. You are people, I love people, people are cool.
Please take heart in that the world is changing for the better in these regards, shamefully slowly to be sure, but I think there's reason to be hopeful.

Hope I haven't unintentionally offended here.
Best wishes and remember, you are not alone, you have allies.

If when transpeople get a seat at the table, these Neanderthals will probably go after one-legged veterans for not being AmeriKan enough because they can't two-step.

Dear North Carolina,

We were going to stop in Raleigh on our way to Florida later this Spring. Now we're going to fly so we don't have to get any closer to you savages than 35,000 feet. To use your local dialect, "Fuck alla' y'all 'til you get your shit together and join the human race."

Signed,
The Human Race
