“You've got to learn to leave the table when love's no longer being served"

~ Nina Simone "

Saving her childhood home

The effort to preserve Simone’s Tryon home has a long, winding history, but perhaps it’s best to begin by noting how remarkable it is that the house is still standing at all. Built circa 1930, the three-room, 660-square-foot house is the kind of threadbare construction battered by Southern storms that often blends into backroads, or otherwise disappears entirely. If you go searching for the childhood homes of many other African-American artists and activists of the twentieth-century—W.E.B. Du Bois, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X—you’ll find only a placard on a street corner. That Simone’s home has survived time and gentrification, a curtain of kudzu separating it from a panorama of the foothills and distant Hogback Mountain—well, that feels close to a miracle. https://indyweek.com/news/longform/nina-simone-childhood-home-preservation/

listening to Nina Simone. Not in haste this morning as today's OT evolves, no where i must go, nowhere to be, just Kona coffee and me and inner-tubes, in the moment, separated from the machinations of the greater web.

. . . from a less druidistic(?) framework in Listen, Liberal: Or, What Ever Happened to the Party of the People?

When he authored What's the Matter with Kansas: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America, which was critical of Bush(ism), he became the darling of the MSM, being invited on show after show, again and again.

When he wrote Listen Liberal, MSM made sure he became persona non grata

Why? Essentially because he criticized the mangerial elite in the Democratic Party as well as the GOP.

@mhagle hi! I am still making dirt with oak leaves... grew three more puffballs and a mushroom. lol I noticed some fall in the air this morning, dry leaves are blowing everywhere in the hot wind. Here it comes again... eternal september Heh and now we have eternal elections. oh yay

Anyway, that song I sing inside my head when I'm in front of this vacant house ripping out bermuda grass. omg wtf I don't know if you've ever had the pleasure of growing it maybe Tejas likes it for greenery. not me Go back to Bermuda! I have to meditate a lot to let that stuff grow and learn to love it, somewhat contained. good practice

Peace be with you mhagle, keep on digging. cheers

Probably need to bail before the primary is underway for realz.

The problem, though, is the one that Dylan expressed so perfectly, way back when: "I've got a head full of ideas that are drivin' me insane." Some of us just need to get the words out there, now and then. My own private curse: The endless internal chatter, both monologue and synthesized dialogue, that only slips away when I'm engrossed in music or my work.

We're due a rain later today. I hope it happens. Got 1.5" earlier this week but could handle some more for sure after all the hot dry weather.

Projects proceeding nicely...looking for completion before the end of the month.

The world is still green here. In the drought of 2016 leaves were falling by now and the ground crunched when you walked on it. We've had over 50 days of 90 degrees - the last 18 days in a row set a new record.

Well hope you all have a great weekend!

Not surprisingly, I'm in agreement with Caitlin on this one.

The beltway pundits were able to choke down their rage and vitriol for a few months of the presidential race, hoping against hope that the Sanders campaign would be eclipsed by fauxgressives like Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg and kill his numbers in the polls. As soon as it became clear that this wasn’t going to happen, the friendly mask fell off and the claws came out.

That’s good. Now it’s a clean, fair, honest fight: toe-to-toe, gloves off, and no holds barred. Without the false container of civility and politeness, narratives are much harder to control, and populist narratives have an easier time emerging. Neera made a major miscalculation.

Frankly, I can think of no more honest assessment of where we are than when the media comes right out and says what we know they've been thinking all along.

image_20.jpg

So those are our choices? Trump fascism or an anti-democratic process where I have to fall in line with whatever candidate the DNC decides they want?

Interesting times indeed. Can't begin to imagine what they'll say to us when we actually get close to the 2020 Election.

P*ssy grabber and what Armando said to Nina. I'm seeing the attacks coming more from Neena and other centrist dem sell outs. No one attacked Liz or Kambama at that level that she did.

The primary was shown to have been a massive scam and yet so many people deny that it happened. This is considered CT on way too many websites and new sites in the comments.

Post her any time you see her.

Sounds like a lovely way to begin your day Smile

It's sunny here in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains but the nights have been blessedly cooler. I actually had to put a quilt on my bed last night!

Listening to the birds this morning as I water my azaleas. Actually one bird in particular. A mockingbird who has perched himself on the roof here for the last week, singing his song and swooping down and pecking my cats on the head whenever they are out in the garden. Ziggy now checks around for the mockingbird before he comes outside. I might have to give this bird a name soon. Thoughts?
