Time of Change

Open Thread Image.jpg

Recently, the country’s Senate approved a bill to end the seasonal time change and establish a fixed one. However, this still continues as a proposal since the bill has not been approved by the House of Representatives, which means that the mandate must continue to be fulfilled. Two states, Hawaii and Arizona do not make the change because they have their own state laws to keep their hours fixed.

I live on the time cusp between Eastern and Central time, so I convert from fast time to slow time and back on the regular. None the less I wish they would leave time alone.
Now as to the "time of change", we are experiencing the biggest swing in the balance of power in my lifetime, from western hegemony to a multipolar fair and balanced world order centered around the BRICS+ alliance.

fdb024aa999c4a63847a3f3bb3368df7.jpeg
...the "BRICS+" mechanism bears the expectations of developing countries for promoting the reform of the international order and opens up a new path of multilateralism for mutual benefit, win-win and cooperative development.

The BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) account for over 40% of the global population and nearly a quarter of the world’s GDP. The bloc’s stated purposes include promoting peace, security, development, and cooperation globally, and contributing to the development of humanity.

Many countries around the world sense the change, and are looking to join BRICS+.

Argentina and Iran applied to join BRICS in June 2022. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that these countries are worthy candidates for joining BRICS and that the preparatory process for expanding the organization has already begun.

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt plan to join BRICS, and their potential membership bids could be discussed and answered at next year’s summit in South Africa, Purnima Anand, the president of the organization, told Russian media on Thursday.

Kazakhstan is studying a proposal to join BRICS. It will then be decided in which format we will take part in the summits of the platform. Kazakhstan is a mid-ranking country. We are considered a dynamically developing, important country in Central Asia. We are promoting the regional agenda. Kazakhstan is a major producer and exporter of energy resources and wheat. We can solve issues in a more balanced way with mutually beneficial communication between the producer and the consumer of energy resources. If China and India are among the largest consumers of energy resources, Kazakhstan and Russia are producers. On a mutually beneficial basis, we can contribute to the in-depth development of trade and economic ties, to international food security, given that the world is on the brink of a food crisis.

Lula was a co-founder of the BRICS system, which he has called to expand. He has similarly vowed to strengthen unity in Latin America and the Caribbean through institutions of regional integration like the CELAC, UNASUR, and MERCOSUR.
Before the election, Lula proposed creating a pan-Latin American currency, in order to “be freed of the dollar.”
Lula’s victory represents a reversal of two US-sponsored soft coups in 2016 and 2018, which overthrew the Workers’ Party (PT) government of former President Dilma Rousseff and subsequently imprisoned Lula on false charges, handing power to Bolsonaro.

Change is occurring globally, not just with the growing BRICS alliance.

Colombia’s new president reverses US coup, visits Venezuela, pledges unity in ‘spirit of Bolívar’ Colombia’s first-ever left-wing leader Gustavo Petro took a historic trip to Venezuela, pledging regional unity following the anti-imperialist model of Simón Bolívar. Meeting with President Nicolás Maduro, Petro said it is “suicidal” to divide the countries, “because we are the same people,” in “historically one single Bolivarian nation, reunited.”

Latin America is rejecting western colonization once again.

One reason other countries are turning their backs to the US is due to our endless senseless wars.

Lucas Gage is a former Marine who served two tours in Iraq. During that time he discovered that his military leaders were actively lying about their mission. Now Gage is exposing the very same lies that are being repeated in Ukraine.

Caity explains:

We’ve been seeing this same cycle repeated year after year: US military expansionism and aggression in a given part of the world receives pushback from the people who live there, and the US responds to that pushback with more military expansionism and aggression. The official narrative is that the US is responding to unprovoked aggressions from the other side, conveniently omitting its own antecedent aggressions and provocations — a manipulation tactic the western media are always happy to facilitate.

In reality it’s not hard to determine who the aggressor is when one party is flying to the other side of the planet to menace the borders and security interests of the other, especially when ramping up militarism in more and more parts of the world facilitates both the US military-industrial complex and the unipolarist objectives of US empire managers. But because the US empire has the most sophisticated narrative control system ever devised, enough people in enough places that matter swallow the official story despite its self-evident absurdity.

The idea of a war with China is so stupid you have to wonder how we have such idiots conducting US Foreign Policy.

The war between NATO and Russia isn't going well for western powers and is driving most of the world away from the West and the USD.

Change I want to see....
I often write about changing our farming systems. Not by taking over farms as planned by the Davos Great Reset puppets, but by regenerative pasture based grazing operations. I was saddened to hear of New Zealand joining the farm seizure agenda (18 min).

I love to see people finding their way to the land...
Left BBC's Planet Earth to start dream family homestead

Over a decade ago, Matt Swarbrick and his wife Jenny decided to leave behind city life to “grow cabbages and children” on 80 acres of former quarry land at the North West corner of Wales. Matt had been exploring ecosystems worldwide for shows like BBC's Planet Earth when he realized he wanted to “learn every bird’s nest” in his own corner of the world.
Using a no-dig method that relies on good composting practices, the couple began using permaculture principles of regenerative farming to restore the soil health of the vegetable beds. Today, on just one acre, they can provide produce for 100 families.
On the remainder of the property, they began planting trees to convert pastures into savannah grasslands, or what Matt calls “the most productive ecosystems on earth.” Relying on agroforestry techniques of maximizing highly productive “woodland edges,” they divided the pastures into 35 fields lined with fruit and nut trees. This not only produces a crop but it provides smaller spaces for the rotational grazing of their cows, sheep, and chickens, which in turn improves soil fertility with minimal input.
With a big loan to pay, the couple decided to create a campsite on their property for extra money. Their first small shelter is an affordable take on the traditional Celtic roundhouse. Using cob, straw bale, and lime for walls and sod from the fields for the roof, the circular structure resembles something out of Tolkien's Middle Earth, and they have nicknamed it the hobbit/fairy/witch house.
Inspired by the Viking boats that used to populate the Irish sea (just 2 miles from the property), the couple’s second build, erected in just 6 weeks, is a turf-covered cabin that is “a blend of Viking longhouse and underground hobbit hideaway.”
Despite having to take out a large loan to buy their dream property, the couple said that every venture- the farm, the pastures, the overnight rentals- all pay for themselves. And this is important since one of their goals is to show others that this type of life, and method of farming, is a viable option.

We were lucky to buy our place cheap and we built our own house saving a good bit more. We did have to borrow money, but paid off our mortgage in six years on our teacher salaries.

Jeffery has been doing good work trying to educate people about the nature of the corporate coup.

So here we are in a rapidly changing world. In the US we are experiencing the fall of empire, and we're happy to sacrifice our EU allies in the process. In our desperate attempt to cling to our hegemony, we're stirring up war with Russia and China at the same time. As a result the collapse will be hastened. Meanwhile, there's a cooperative alliance forming whose goal is peace and mutual benefit. They are ascending.
Fortunately, even within a crumbling empire, we are capable as individuals to choose paths which enhance our personal well being. I understand homesteading isn't for everyone, but it has been a good fit for us. People have to find their own path toward peace and prosperity, and I hope your path has led you toward those goals.

Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who that it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

You have touched on all the major themes nationally and internationally. Thank you for the comprehensive analysis.

My focus for today is not so much on our crumbling empire, nor even on the hideous situation in Kiev----grid almost entirely defunct--no electric, long lines for water---- and the evacuation of 3 million citizens is being contemplated. This is from the NY Times in a long piece that covers reality in Kiev but has to add that Ukraine has shot down many Russian missiles, (Doubtful) and that Russia is losing on the battlefield, (Untrue.)

https://t.me/Zornkrieger/20857

My single focus this morning is on my city and the elections coming on Tuesday.
What I know: Shoplifting and the failure to catch and prosecute shoplifters has led to plastic cases for entire aisles in drug stores and even in Target. If you want toothpaste you have to summon a store employee to unlock the cabinet. In the face of the unpleasant challenges an out of control stealing culture has created, many consumers have switched to online shopping for everything.

The stores and shelves are increasingly empty. Trader Joe's in Soho looked like a disaster area. Empty shelves and very few customers on Friday morning.

The single exception is the Whole Foods a few blocks from my home. No extra security. Plenty to buy and filled with people.

90,000 rent-regulated apartments are kept empty by their landlords, who clearly know something I do not. Why are they warehousing? IDK.

Lee Zeldin, the (R) candidate for Governor trying to take down Kathy Hochul, the (D) who replaced Cuomo, looks to me like he may have a shot. This may be a repeat of Youngkin in VA who wiped out Terry MaCauliffe.

Zeldin is 44, an aggressive assertive alpha male who is talking about crime and inflation. These are real issues. The last (R) Governor, George Pataki had 2 terms and did a good job. Lots of older folks like me remember that.

Hochul, OTOH is in her 60's and a corporate puppet spewing talking points. "Saving our democracy." Barf.

Sorry for the rambling that may interest nobody.

@NYCVG the little I know of that race for gov is that the R sounds like just another Trump-enabling R with the usual anti-abortion and pro-gun stances (he voted against a recent assault weapons ban in congress) and with the usual simplistic, tough-guy answers to complicated problems. It's also probably correct that the D has run an ineffective campaign, too focused on abortion apparently, and not aggressive enough against her opponent overall.

And I'm not impressed by his being younger, a clear ageist argument. I don't see any age issue in that campaign as Hochul appears to be fully intact mentally, judging by a recent media appearance I saw. A reminder too that younger is not always better. If she were showing deteriorating signs like Biden, you would have an argument, but not when she is just in her 60s and appears to be operating at full strength.

Re crime in NYS, it appears to be about the same mixed bag as it is here in CA, some crime is up and other types of crime down. I do know that the RW media, Fox in particular, has been playing up the crime issue to an extreme, cherry-picking the areas which have gone up to create a distorted picture. This is seen frequently in the posts in the one social media platform I frequent. Overemphasizing crime, cynically whipping up people's base fears, often with an underlying racial tone, has been a staple of the R campaign playbook since Nixon in 1968. Sadly, it often works.

@wokkamile you were right about crime in NYC.

But you are not. Not even close.

Whatever sources you have read or listened to are invested in hiding the truth. Just as the same sources hide truths about quite a lot of other things.

The daily deaths and stabbings on the subways alone have threatened any recovery the MTA was hoping for in its revenue stream. Ridership has plunged and it is not coming back.

Stores are closed and closing everyplace. If shoplifting is allowed to go on, what's the sense of keeping your doors open? Shopkeepers and restaurant owners are shutting down.

I live in Tribeca, one of the wealthiest zip codes in the USA. Taylor Swift's building is around the corner. Ryan Reynolds and his family live down the street. Dan Goldman, our soon to be congressman, also an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune, lives with his family a few blocks away. You may remember Dan from the first Impeachment hearing.

Hochul is a mini-Cuomo. She has alienated many New York residents with her giveaway to build a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills, amongst other bad signs of secret dealings. The Budget was done without the input of either the NYS Assembly or the NYS Senate. A one-woman band. mini-cuomo
(It is not necessarily ageist to say that voters may be tiring of elderly rich folks calling all the shots.)

Tribeca is shuttered and empty. Plenty of residents, but its commercial spaces are increasingly vacant. Facts on the ground. Not in the Press.

@NYCVG in one of the wealthiest zip codes in the US. My neighborhood is a little more humble. For instance, I've noticed that some 43% of the married women here tend to wear simple, but respectable Republican cloth coats.

Data I've seen is NYC/NYS crime stats are a mixed bag, and very much depends on whether you compare the latest stats to last year, pandemic -- improved numbers yoy -- or the immediate pre-pandemic year, a less positive picture. Also depends on whether you compare the latest with recent historical numbers. Compared to the early-to-mid 1990s, current major crime is down considerably. https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2022/11/reviewing-lee-zeldins-fo...

See that link to explain further how crime numbers can be distorted. Includes discussion of subway crime. I understand Zeldin wants to cut MTA's budget, which would not help in reducing crime in the tube. Also notes that crime overall is up nationwide, so this is not a NY thing. And that violent crime rates in NYC are below many other US cities, as well as many US rural counties.

Re stores and restaurants closing, again a nationwide issue, not just NY or CA. High rents, higher overall prices, and worker issues have hurt many restaurants and stores. It's happening across the country. Perhaps due in important part to economic worries -- people cutting back on non-essential spending, like me. High gas prices will also affect the number of customers traveling to shop, like me.

Some complicated issues being bundled up and over-simplified by the Rs. No great surprise there.

@NYCVG again on your r/e battle. As for facts, I have provided them, not personal anecdotes. Here is another good cite with interesting stats: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-06-07/is-new-york-city-m...

The perception vs reality situation is important. In high population density areas like NYC, crime is going to be noticed more than in more spread out places, like most of the rest of the US, where in many places actual crime rates are much higher, including R-governed rural areas and red states. But most people don't bother with crime stats but rely more on their preferred, narrow news source(s), so perceptions get distorted and trump reality.

Europe’s energy crisis is becoming an economic crisis. Skyrocketing energy prices are causing companies of all types across the region to cut thousands of jobs, dramatically roll back production, and in some instances, halt business altogether.

The company is a major employer in Northern France but was forced to lay off over 4,000 employees to stay afloat. So how bad is our current situation? Have humans pushed the Earth into its sixth mass extinction? The answer appears to be, “Not yet.” But we are currently losing species at a rate far higher than normal background extinction rates, and the situation is dire. We are rapidly approaching a loss of diversity similar to that seen during mass extinctions. Biologists predict that unless we change course and begin preserving more species, within the next few hundred years, we will become the cause of Earth’s sixth mass extinction.

Judging from my car windshield and bird activity, I would suggest we've arrived. As I often say, "Treasure every day."

I wrote in my calendar that I saw 80 monarchs fly over our yard on November 5th. It was the first time I had seen them or, I should say, the first time that I noticed them and counted them. The counting may have been slightly inaccurate but the number was in that range.

This year I've seen 5, which doesn't mean anything, but I will try and find out what the monarch counters in my area have seen so far.

I may have to wait a day to dig into it. We traveled just under 10 hours today. I have court tomorrow, so must spend some time sort of preparing for that.
On Friday, it was an expected high of 85 deg. Dear One wore jeans and tee shirt. A few hours later, rains began. And the temp dropped. Then a sustained high wind. Then, the rain turned to snow. Not a little flurry, but a heavy snow, the winds smashing it into the windshield. Dear One, from the mid-west, in a tee shirt, sort of bitched about it as he drove. I sort of had a child's wonder reaction. I don't see snow here often. It frosted the lovely landscape, making it even lovelier. At the destination, near the NM state line, the temp dropped to 31.
We are back to high heat, hated the time change, even if it allowed us to arrive home before dark. le Glad we can get the truth about the UK-R combat, and I am glad renewable farms can't be discussed enough!

to drive in a falling snow. Hope y'all had a good trip. Looked like you got a good soaking rain in E. TX to me.

Good luck with your cases tomorrow!

@enhydra lutris We stayed in Dalhart, as a place where pushing much farther in a day's drive gets really exhausting.
Well, Dalhart smells like silage. Stepping out of the room, or the car, the air smelled like fermenting grain. Granaries everywhere! Then, we discovered the main hwy through the city, where all the motels are located, runs parallel to a busy rr track, lots of whistles throughout the day and night, rail cars rocking the motel foundation, but on down the road, snow in foothills and mountains was wonderful!
The main goal was to take in some mountain views in NM and CO, and we did that. Lots of great music, good food, and somehow, we slept through the noise of the trains.
I am trying to plan a trip for Christmas. I will map out granaries and rr tracks.

This is fun from some of my faves... I guess they used a "playing for change" editing.
Enjoy..
We recorded this song across 10 different cities on our Europe tour using this nifty magnetic mic that our friends at Audigo sent us and cobbled all the recordings together into one video. This was blast to put together and I feel like it really captures the restless, roving spirit of the song. The video and audio for this piece were both shot completely on iPhone with the Audigo app and wireless mic. I’m so impressed with the mobility and sound quality of this little mic that I’m actually going to be doing a full demo and review of it here on the channel later this week, so look out for that!

come see us live in NYC, Saratoga Springs, Boston, and Philly this month!

I seriously feel like I'm watching a slow motion train wreck and a huge group of people seem not to notice they are directly in the path, no wait, they are actually cheering for the train to clobber them! I'm seriously worried about how bad it might get. I hope I'm an idiot and have no idea what I'm talking about.

Here's my hopium for the day.

@Crazytimes

at least let's us prepare as best we can. I recommend keeping some cash on hand in a hidey hole just in case the banks go first. Also stockpile things you normally eat. The word is it isn't this winter, but next winter that will be crushing, but who knows.

As to others being unaware, they are lied to 24/7.

Take care and be well!
