If Ukraine, you'll have a Pain in the Neck!

Open Thread image.jpg

The insane US strategy of picking a fight with the Bear and the Dragon...at the same time...is a terrible mistake. We've become a desperate empire flailing around trying to maintain our dominance with military might. Recently Ukraine threatens Russia with war. In response, Russia moves troops within its own borders and the US slaps sanctions on them...in part for their supposed hack into SolarWinds. It is interesting that there's been no mention of Israel hacking Iran's nuclear facility. Part of the reason Julian is being tortured in the UK is because he revealed the Vault 7 CIA program that allows our spies (ie mafia) to make any hack look like it came from any country we want to blame. These are the very people that claim it was Russia hacking the US. What is the deal? I think it is all about oil.

...diplomatic relations between Washington and Moscow were teetering on the brink of collapse. Russia expelled ten US diplomats including US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan, in retaliation for sweeping sanctions Biden imposed on Russia, and after Washington abandoned threats to deploy two warships along Russia’s Black Sea coast. Last month, Russia recalled its ambassador to the United States, normally the last diplomatic step before the outbreak of war, over Biden’s extraordinary remark calling Putin a “killer.”

Recent weeks had seen a flare-up of the conflict provoked by the February 2014 NATO-backed coup in Ukraine, in which Washington and Berlin backed far-right forces to topple a pro-Russian government in Kiev. The coup rapidly split the country along linguistic lines, as Russian-speaking areas of the country opposed the new far-right government. Crimea voted to secede from Ukraine and to re-join Russia, while pro-Moscow separatists took over the Donbass in eastern Ukraine.

Tensions have soared since Biden’s inauguration, after which the Kiev regime cut off water supplies to Crimea and adopted a “Crimean Platform” calling to militarily reconquer the Donbass and Crimea, which hosts a key Russian naval base at Sevastopol. This policy, if enacted, clearly entails going to war with Russia. Moscow retaliated by massing troops along the Russian-Ukrainian border and threatening to seal off parts of the Black Sea.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/04/17/zele-a17.html

In a response to new American restrictions imposed earlier on Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry has published a sanctions list that targets senior Biden administration officials. The retaliation also includes the expulsion of 10 US diplomats and the possible reduction of Washington’s diplomatic mission in the capital. (5 min)

Biden's Russia-China Tactic Is To Wage War AND To Ask For Cooperation. It Will Fail.

We Should All Be Afraid of the New Cold War

It sounded like there's good news about the US Afghan war, but not so fast...

Biden isn’t ending the Afghanistan War, he’s privatizing it: Special Forces, Pentagon contractors, intelligence operatives will remain. Over 18,000 Pentagon contractors remain in Afghanistan, while official troops number 2,500. Joe Biden will withdraw this smaller group of soldiers while leaving behind US Special Forces, mercenaries, and intelligence operatives — privatizing and downscaling the war, but not ending it.

https://thegrayzone.com/2021/04/16/biden-afghanistan-war-privatizing-con...

Biden did not say that the United States will stop bombing Afghanistan. What’s more, he pledged that “we will keep providing assistance to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces,” a declaration that actually indicates a tacit intention to “stay involved in Afghanistan militarily.”

Chris Hedges talks to the journalist Glenn Greenwald about his reporting exposing the corruption among Brazil's political, judicial and economic elite.

Greenwald was able to show through a trove of documents how the current Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and his crypto-fascist party manipulated the legal system, with the connivance of federal anti-corruption judge Sergio Moro, and were able to discredit and eliminate Bolsonaro's political rival, former two-term president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the leader of the Workers' Party. These revelations - The Secret Brazil Archive - published just after Bolsonaro's inauguration in 2019, led to repeated death threats against Greenwald, his children and his family, with threats of criminal investigation and prosecution.

Greenwald's new book is Securing Democracy: My Fight for Press Freedom and Justice in Bolsonaro's Brazil.

The imperialist empire is trying to retain control of said oil.
Therefore the military is hired to keep resources out of the
hands of the countries in which it happens to belong to.

This is getting uglier as the time runs out to actually do
something positive to ameliorate the greed and control
which is threatening to be end of our future as a species.

The Nord stream 2 where the US is sanctioning Germany for buying Russian gas rather than our dirtier and more expensive product. We conducted the Ukrainian coup to cut off the pipelines from Ukraine to Europe carrying Russian fuel...so Russia builds direct lines.

The US is so incompetent.

geostrategic position of several countries USA uses to influence Europe and Russian relationship, plus decrease revenue from existing pipelines.

Biden’s firing squad stands in a circle Asiatimes.com March 22, 2021

Europe now pays about $2 billion a year in transit fees to the Ukraine, Slovakia and other countries for Russian natural gas, which provides about a third of its annual gas consumption. The Nord Stream II pipeline would reduce transportation costs substantially, at the expense of the Ukraine and others.

The additional capacity of new pipelines also provides price competition for American natural gas.

New research, published on today in Geology, indicates that during the last two global periods of sea-ice melt, the decrease in pressure triggered methane release from buried reserves. @magiamma shift to causing more problems for areas bordering China and Russia. Might be right since United States will leave a large number of contractors.

Obituary for America’s war in Afghanistan (my bold)

Meanwhile, the occupation of Afghanistan became an end in itself, with war profiteering turning into a roaring business with money, women, drug trafficking, foreign bank accounts, contractors, all thrown into it, spawning mind-boggling corruption and venality and creating a dysfunctional Afghan state.

That’s how, quintessentially, Afghanistan became a low-hanging fruit for the Taliban to pluck in their second coming.

Now, as the defeated Islamic State and al-Qaeda fighters from Syria were relocated to Afghanistan in recent years, a new agenda is struggling to be born – jihad in Xinjiang, Central Asia and the North Caucasus. That unspoken agenda would have required the “forever war” to remain open-ended.

in our conflicts with Asia

Chip shortage could present new US-China flashpoint

As several analysts have pointed out, the semiconductor crunch is one with potentially serious geopolitical implications.

Of the world’s three major chip producers, it is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) that has for the better part of the three years been moving toward industry dominance.

Unlike its competitors Intel and Samsung SK, TSMC is a chip “foundry.” a company that churns out chips for designers without factories, or “fabs,” a production approach that allows super-high production with extremely low costs. This has made TSMC the biggest and most efficient manufacturer of semiconductors, including the more sophisticated wafer chips, in the world.

Climate change is making this worse.

TSMC to hire 9,000, as water woes continue

Amid surging global demand for semiconductors, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is launching a campaign to find 9,000 new recruits for its operations across the country, Taiwan News reported.

At the same time, Bloomberg reported that Taiwan has offered assurances that it has sufficient water reserves to keep the giant tech industry humming till late May, when monsoon rains arrive to alleviate its worst drought in decades.

Taiwan faces its worst drought in 56 years, a challenge to water-intensive sectors of the economy from chipmakers to textile factories and farms.

@#1... we used to fight wars over oil (or natural gas, in the case of the Nordstream pipeline) but are transitioning to wars over water. Certainly, water is weaponized in the situation in Ukraine, beginning after the Crimean secession in 2014 when Biden was Vice President. From a link in Student of Earth's comment in the previous essay, Ukraine hastily built a dam across the canal that supplies 85% of Crimea's water at that time, and is now threatening to close the canal permanently unless Russia hands the peninsula and its agricultural areas (now dessicated) back to Ukraine. The US State Department has been employing siege warfare during multiple administrations and seems likely to continue unless stopped by a hot war.

The Russian government has responded by also limiting access to water, closing the Sea of Azov to international vessels for the next six months. The ratchet continues to tighten.

Introduced in 1981

Antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties

Some 4 billion doses have been taken over the past 40 years

Good safety record with minimal toxic effects

WHO Model List of Essential Medicines as a 3mg tablet

Countries now including ivermectin in their Covid-19 management strategies

Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Slovakia, Czech Republic

Front Line Covid-19 Critical Care (FLCCC) Alliance

Called for the rapid introduction of ivermectin to stem the tide of infections

Prophylactic treatment can be given with two doses of 0.2mg/kg, 48 hours apart, once a month.

For early out-patient treatment, a daily dose of 0.2mg/kg for a maximum of five days is recommended

In the UK, the best way forward would be for the MHRA to authorise use of ivermectin for prophylaxis and treatment of Covid-19 on the basis of the published evidence to date.

Next, the drug could be made available through community pharmacies either using a PGD or by making ivermectin a P medicine

Ivermectin would then help to save lives and reduce suffering until the majority of the population can be vaccinated

Failure to use a cheap, safe drug that reduces the severity and duration of infection as well as the risks of death and transmission seems incomprehensible.

typically German, like "why make something simple, if you can do it complicated?". Each Bundesland (states inside Germany) do their own thing, very "democratic", but pretty confusing. Looks more like they shot themselves in the foot and now you sense a bit of a being fed up mood in the population. That mood is abused by political groups of the wrong kind. It was to be expected. My prediction was for after the midterms. But with pundits saying gop will take the House, maybe the war plans were moved forward. There were four possible areas which are mostly obvious: Iran, Ukraine, Syria, or VZ. Given the war rhetoric, might even include China, but Wall Street would stop that one. Thing is with Ukraine, the US could fight a full proxy war draining Russian resources. Although military pundits say Russians would destroy Ukraine army in short order.

Usually the leopard doesn't change its spots. I think your instincts are correct. Biden is pushing conflict on many, many fronts. His cabinet speaks volumes too from General Raytheon as head of the war dept to Blinkin, the aggressive pro-Israel hawk, as SOS.

Biden did vastly more than just vote for the war. Yet his role in bringing about that war remains mostly unknown or misunderstood by the public. When the war was debated and then authorized by the US Congress in 2002, Democrats controlled the Senate and Biden was chair of the Senate committee on foreign relations. Biden himself had enormous influence as chair and argued strongly in favor of the 2002 resolution granting President Bush the authority to invade Iraq.

“I do not believe this is a rush to war,” Biden said a few days before the vote. “I believe it is a march to peace and security. I believe that failure to overwhelmingly support this resolution is likely to enhance the prospects that war will occur …”

We're coming unglued...more shootings everyday, from all over the nation.

I think it reflects the collapse.

Well, keep your good vibe going despite the insanity.

The Austin Police Department did not release the names of the victims but identified them as two Hispanic females and one Black male.

I admire Medea. Ben's interview covered some of the same info.

These two have become among my favorite. I look forward to their Sunday release. Enjoy!

For the last few years, I've been posting a new video every Sunday, and I call it "Sunday Mornings with Reina del Cid." I invite you to pour yourself a cup of coffee/tea/whiskey and join us each week as my friends and I discover new music, cover the classics, and share our own original music with you.

with Russia. And Iran.

But I do not buy China not being a serious threat. They (CCP) have insinuated themselves into/bought/compromised their way from Hollywood to major universities, local governments, congress and the White House. You've got former China Daily journos working at the New York Times...

Might wish to ask yourself why they would bother to do that?

For the last number of years, in wargaming conflict with China over an invasion of Taiwan the US (not to mention Taiwan) lose pretty consistently. Given that China has continued to build up its forces in the area and to threaten Taiwan, especially if it were to actually declare itself independent, the US should forget the Black Sea, Persian Gulf, Africa, Afghanistan etc. and focus on its defense.

Given a bloated US military focused on wokeness, a compromised US President and VP, it's not at all beyond possibility that if the US concentrates its forces and attention on Ukraine (insanely dangerous) that China would find this a golden opportunity to attack and take Taiwan. After all, if they do what is the US or anyone else going to do about it presented with a fait accompli?

China does deserve to be challenged on it's human rights record and trade practices - that does not constitute bullying. But Taiwan- which has more of a functioning democracy and economy than the US at this point - deserves US help and protection. A clear and credible determination to provide that help - with serious military force, if necessary, is our best prospect for not having to actually use it.

But that is hardly what we can expect to get from Biden.
