Stoners make the BEST food.

One thing that always bugged me as a kid growing up was how GROSS Shaggy's food was. If you never watched the show, Scooby Doo, Shaggy was essentially the epitome of the Hollywood Stoner. Shaggy hair, goofy jokes, and always ate EVERYTHING. But his flavor combinations left much to be desired. In fact they were downright disgusting.

Flash Forward to recently, and I've discovered Stoner cuisine in a big way. Damn it's good. I mean, REALLY good. And you don't even have to be stoned to enjoy it. It's a great combination of various types of flavors and textures which come out great. Yes, they require a little more time and creativity to come up with, but DAMN if they aren't awesome. Just for fun, I'm going to share three stoner foods that I've come up with and enjoy occasionally. Keep in mind, NONE of these are diet, vegan, or otherwise guided by anything other than whether or not the food is tasty, filling and enjoyable.

Basic: Peanut Butter and Jelly, and Fruit Sandwiches.

Start with your basic bread. (Whole grain is better, and nutty bread best, but work with what you got.)
Slather one side in the best strawberry Jam you can find.
Slather the other in Good, chunky peanut butter. (Natural if you can get it. It does make a difference)
Slice one apple into thin slices and lay the pieces on the jam.
Slap it together and ENJOY!

This one's an easy one, and simply adds fresh fruit to a classic recipe. So simple, even a kid can make it, and was actually invented with help from my kids. We wanted to IMPROVE the PB&J and after experiments with honey and nutella, decided the best way to do it was to add whole fruit. Don't go overboard with fruits, but one additional adds an additional layer of texture and enjoyment.

Moderate: Pesto and Turkey Artichoke Pizza

If you do your own Pizza dough, great. If not, the best one I've found for this particular recipe is Safeway brand. Just because it's slightly buttered and adds a layer of consistency.
If you can make your own Pesto, Do so. Grinding pine nuts and basil along with the dry cheese and olive oil is a lot of fun, and you won't OVERDO the amount needed for the pizza. Ideally, you want a light coating, since the main purpose of this pizza is to enjoy the combo of flavors, not overwhelm with one topping.
Add thin layers of thinly sliced Turkey, artichoke hearts, White Mushrooms, Black olive and White Onion.
Either grate or thinly slice Provolone cheese over the top. (Havarti can also be used, but clumps a bit more and is slightly more overpowering.)
Bake in the oven, and enjoy.

This one is based off my love for Pesto and some post Thanksgiving experimentation. Turkey/Chicken Sandwiches with pesto are a great treat, if a little basic, and the idea of expanding it to a pizza was talked over with my kids. They like mushrooms and olives on pizza, and the basic compromise was worked out. What's amazing is how well all these various tastes work together. Only caveat is that if you can find "Low Salt" versions of any of the vegetables OR get them fresh it's best. (With the exception of the artichoke hearts. The Marinade is practically a requirement)

Advanced: Quesadilla Tacos, AKA SuperTacos, AKA Oh MY GOD THAT THING IS HUGE.

Start off by blending cheeses to your taste. I personally use a combination of Muenster, Colby Jack and Anejo for my quesadillas. (Go LIGHT on the anejo, it's salty as heck.) Use 2 burrito size flour tortillas as the bed for the cheese mix, adding as much as you like.
Heat some olive oil in a frying pan. If your olive oil smokes, it's TOO HOT.
Fry both sides of the Quesadilla you're making lightly. Ideally, you want it light brown on both sides with the cheese melted.
Pat it dry on a paper towel or a CLEAN cloth one if you're going to do laundry that day.
Set Quesadillas aside. Don't worry, they won't get too cold if you're doing the other steps at the same time.
Heat Refried beans as you do this, if you have a 2nd burner. (If you have a 4 burner, you can make this whole thing at the same time, but requires a bit of juggling.
In a separate pan pan fry a few chicken tenders with garlic. (To taste. I use 3 per taco, and you won't need much more than that.)
In a fourth pan, brown some hamburger, seasoned to taste. (I go light on the seasoning here, because there's already PLENTY of flavor present.)
When all dishes are done, assemble the tacos. Fold the Quesadillas in half and add a layer of beans, followed by the chicken tenders, light helping of beef, lettuce, Carrots Julienne, White or Yellow Onion, Salsa, Guacamole (Homemade if you can spare the time, otherwise as natural as possible) and sour cream.
Enjoy!

Had this one last night, and it's REALLY good. While you're working with a lot of oil, if you drain and are very conscientious about how much you're using, it's not as greasy as you think. Plus there's a lot of vegetables, (You can add green peppers if you like, which I didn't have last night) and the combinations of warm and cold are phenomenal. Also keep in mind this is a BIG meal. I can barely finish one, and both of my kids had leftovers. However, it's a joy to make, and if you have family around, also pretty fun as a group project, since there's lots of little tasks to making the meal.

So, if you've got a crazy stoner recipe that you want to share, please do! I just wanted to share a few of my more successful experiments that worked out wonderfully, and hope to hear more great stories. (Kids want me to figure out a recipe that works with Calamari... This is why you don't tell kids what they're eating until they've eaten it. They enjoy more stuff...)

And because I've been finishing my essays with music... here's some more folk metal. Mongolian folk metal. (Yes, it exists and it's AWESOME. Folk music is just cool no matter where it's made and folk metal just amplifies the awesome.)

In case ya'll weren't fat enough already, AB, the Gastronaut*, invents the Bacon Cheese French Toast sandwich. Especially tasty with cheddar.

Since you're doing peanut butter, try peanut butter with thin slices of dill pickle. (I wouldn't steer you wrong, man.)

*Gastronaut: Going where few palates have gone before.

[edited for depth and variety]

Cream of Bacon Soup -- 1lb. thick bacon, lots of cream. Serves 4.

Cream of Garlic Soup -- 2 heads of garlic, sauteed, lots of cream. Serves 2

Black Bean Hummus -- 1/2lb. Black beans, 1/2lb. chick peas, garlic, olive oil, lime juice, chili pwdr, lots of roasted cumin.

for the most part. My kids like it, but my mother was OBSESSED with it the last time I lived with her, and as a result I steer clear.

The Hummus and Garlic sounds awesome though. (Daughter LOVES garlic, and thinking about that sounds really good. Maybe a little Ginger in there, because Garlic and Ginger go REALLY well together, I find.)

Off the menu since cardio event #2. If you make the garlic soup, be sure to leave the windows open that night.

Hummus garlic: raw gives a sharp bite, sauteed gives a mellow flavor. You should be able to find Near Eastern spices in Portland. Try Sumac, or Zatar. They give your hummus a dryish flavor.
When cooking the beans/peas, add 1/2tps. baking soda, it breaks down the starches and makes for a very smooth, creamy paste.

I used to have hummus/pita sandwiches often when I was finishing my boat. It's a neat way to wrap the hummus. Add sprouts to lighten it up.

Bagel chips: slightly stale makes them easier to slice. Slice 1/8" thick. Spread out on cookie sheet(s). Sprinkle with spices of choice. (salt, black pepper, garlic powder, habanero powder. For a really different flavor try finely ground sage, or rosemary.

I usually like to go with fresh basil/Pine Nuts and get a block of Parmesan from New Seasons. (In walking distance, so I shop there when I can)

Course I'm also cooking for kids, so gonna have to hold off on adding the flowers for a few more years yet. Smile

Dude... we need to talk. Pine nuts. Those are crazy ass expensive. I know, because I used to work at where you sometimes shop. I quit after ten years... long story. Anyways... instead of pine nuts...

Try the Spanish Almonds from the cheese case area. They are salty and oily and a fraction of the cost. Much better than possibly bitter pine nuts.

I don't like walnuts in pesto which is also another switch.

I make my own pesto, too. I don't do "medibles" because ... I just don't. I am on eco or feco and then I smoke Indicas at night and I smoke flower for fun.

I use a stone Mortar and pestle which I had to hunt down in the Mexican store in my home town... (Tried every major store and NOBODY had even a basic... crazy how a standard cooking utensil has been replaced by food processors... )

And yeah, I was paying about 7 bucks for a small case of nuts, so it was a fairly rare treat. Every recipe I had for pesto called for them, and hadn't thought about branching out.

Truly. Even though Marijuana is my "industry". Biggrin

But here's a wicked awesome "recipe" to get your friends and enemies to think you are a GODDESS of GOODIES.

S'mores.

But instead of chocolate, you use peanut butter cups. I prefer Justins as they are Organic as they have dark, milk and white chocolate cups and made with peanut or almond butter. But whatves, use what you got.

take two graham crackers and you and a friend each toast a marshmallow, place the ooey gooey sugar glob onto each cracker.. THEN you sammich the peanut butter cup between the marshmallow and voila... it's super good. Eat it in front of your friend and watch them get all sad. Then help your friend toast marshmallows for their Smore.

People will be amazed and astounded and will flock to give you love and kisses... or maybe that's just my sparking personality.

Give em a try.

I'm not as much of a dessert person when I smoke... (I tend to be highly aware of what I NEED when I do, and what I usually need is vegetables, olive oil, etc... you know, stuff that's long term energy...)

But that does sound delicious, and I'm going to have to try that/branch out a bit more.

Because it's wet, cold and rarely any wifi. He's autistic so he has his limits. BUT I've become a campfire queen of yummies and he loves these.

When it comes to being high, I do like to have GREAT food and drinks. I'm not one of those who eats stale cheerios at 2 am because of "munchies".... I do like to eat well while high because of the enhanced enjoyment.

But I'm finding I'm just living more healthy. I don't want to medicate and then shove some crap in my face. Also I.. and you... live in a foodie town. We have too many choices and places to get good grub. Smile

My favorite thing to do while getting high, recreationally, is to kayak. I like to be outdoors when high.

Course part of what is great is that you can get really good ingredients too.

Eating just to EAT has never been part of my pot smoking experience. Cooking is also a blast because sometimes the food smells even better when being prepared... Smile

(Finally have started weaning my kids off the Mass Market fast food places they used to like, and moving to more local stuff. Burgerville, with it's rotating menu, was a great help...)

I mostly just relax with family, but a nice sunset or something similar is something I can REALLY enjoy while smoking. (Mostly an Indica smoker, but also keep in mind that my PTSD is a pain in the ass when trying to do social/outdoor activities...)

Are you a OMMP? (card holder) I am.
Do you use leafly.com to check strains?

IF you ever get a chance, there's a lovely Sativa called Strawberry Cough. It's my son's anti-anxiety, ptsd and OCD strain. He uses it as a tincture and the side effect is it helps him with allergies. I just use it as I love it's euphoric high and truth betold... it's a bit of an horny strain for me too LOL.

Bubba Kush is a nice Indica that is awesome for stress.

Had one in CA, but burned it when the VA told me (In California) that I would lose all benefits and all chances at housing if I continued to smoke. (Oregon is MUCH better. VA psychiatrist is 100% supportive and can't "Officially" recommend it, but has taken me off everything else except Vitamin D)

I have used Leafly, and it's a great resource. Not 100% accurate, but decent info and a good general idea. (Since everybody's biochemistry is different, I think of it more as a guideline than a rule)

My personal Favorite Strain is Blueberry and Varieties thereof, like Blue Cheese, Or Blue Diesel. Unfortunately, my local dispensary is out, and I've been making do with what they have, which Honestly isn't that great. (Boss Hogg is the closest they had, and it's not that great for anxiety and depression) So far I've tried a few strains, but the worst one I ever had was "Chronic of Narnia". That one just knocked me out for hours every time I used it, which was... bleh.

I will never "Dab" because I don't do ultra-refined. Same reason I won't do vaping, etc. I just have a little bubbler which is great for one-two people, and that's really all I need.

at the "Ball". Many older women are dabbing due to Fibromalaygia (sp) and RA. I don't need to. Also, I don't view butane or naptha as medicinal. The oil I do use is made with organic pure cane sugar alcohol as the solvent. I just use a small drop on a toothpick and place it in my mouth about 3 times a day. Drop is the size of a lower case o.

Marijuana is very much homeopathic and it affects each person individually. Leafly is basic but a good tool for newbies.

I LOVE empowering and explaining marijuana to people. So many simply don't know much about it except for shit they've heard from some stoner movie or Cheech and Chong type of stuff.

It's a shame. There's so much to this little plant.

I don't think it's illegal because it gets some high. I think it's illegal because it helps so many.

Admittedly, Chong's gotten better about what he puts out after going to prison. (I think he does want to be a genuine advocate now, and the fact he's making money off it doesn't hurt much...)

I think the fact that Cannabis is precise in its effects is exactly the reason it's illegal. Almost every illegal drug is VERY precise in what it does to you. Cannabis can vary from strain to strain, but its potency is almost always immediately noticeable. (And if it isn't you know you got ripped off by the person who sold it to you.) Big Pharma depends on medications that are "Subtle" and "require time to see if it works". Essentially they're selling snake oil, they know it, and the real stuff must be made unavailable...

And no judgement for those who do Dab. I make rules for my own personal use because I come from a family with a predisposition to addiction. (Gambling, Alcohol, Smokers, and Big Pharma Drugs) Making rules helps me know that I'm still firmly in control of what I choose to do, and the purpose of what I'm doing. I was functionally an alcoholic for my last year in the service and several years afterwords. Since I've been smoking, I've totally given it up, and I have both lost weight and feel better.

We should meet some day for a coffee.

VA here dumped my heroin addicted dad onto the street when I finally got him in there after the cops called us that he was found in a dumpster beaten to the point of seizures. We're estranged from him but keep having to pick up the pieces of his shattered life. They found "marijuana in his system".

Truth - the allowed him to sign himself out.... he can barely speak and shits himself but the VA said he was "fit". Fuck the VA.
And Fuck Big Pharm.

I'm so much healthier since no big pharm - still going through cancer scares though due to all the damage NSAIDS did to my gut.

For a time, that did a bit more pain relief than Ibu, but the Last Time I got a numb face, numb lips (one taken) so I decided to not Go There again. especially living by myself. I fell and exploded my olecranon (elbow) after my Last Valium. Then went through oxycodone, it took an unpleasant wean there.

Now vaping nicotine, better than tobacco. Slowly weaning off Lexapro. I live in NY, other amendments are too difficult.

High CBD (make my own canna caps) work well, but it is very difficult to find CBD strains where I live on the East Coast.

Peanut Butter and Sliced Banana, about 1 banana to a sandwich, brush the banana with lemon juice to prevent browning if you aren't eating right away...

Peanut Butter and Sliced Apple, core and peel the apple, again brush with lemon juice to prevent browning if you aren't eating right away...

Tomato & Cheese Sandwich, Bread, Mayo, American Cheese, Thick Sliced Fresh Tomato, Salt & Pepper, Keep the Tomatoes in a separate container and place on sandwich just before eating to prevent soggy bread.

And for a more complex meal...
I try making a copy of Frank Pepe's White Clam Pizza...
This recipe comes reasonably close, the dough recipe is linked to a separate page in the instructions. If you live where you can't get fresh clams then canned it will have to be. The other thing is set the oven temp as high as you can, the traditional coal fired oven these are cooked in run about 6-700ºF, and the crust needs a slight burn on it. This burn is what makes it become "Apizza" which locally here is pronounced Ah-beets, there is actually a sweetness in the burn which is unique to the "New Haven Style Pizza."

To compliment the Pizza I'd recommend Foxon Park White Birch Soda which is what is served at any respectable pizza joint in New Haven you can buy it on-line and have it shipped to you.
White Birch Soda 12oz (Case of 12)
White Birch Soda 12oz (Case of 24)
White Birch Soda, 1 Liter Bottle (Case of 12)

Anyways it's definitely stoner food...
And good cold for breakfast the next morning too...

Edited to add the Foxon Park White Birch Soda Links

Sprout People is a gold mine of sproutable seeds. I'm a big fan of sprouts. They're easy to do, and add fresh green food to any diet. The site sells all kinds of kits. They're not the least bit necessary, though do read the helpful instructions. Any old (clean) peanut butter jar or qt-sized plastic container w/lid is all you need to get started.

From the Gastronautical Files:

Grits, Cous Cous, rice, and various grains/products are be dry toasted or lightly toasted with a bit of oil to add more depth of flavor. Cook until golden or slightly brown. Stop if smoke starts to rise from the pan.

[edit]

Forgot to mention Bulghur wheat, and Steel-cut Oats. They both toast up very well and almost completely change the basic flavors. The 'Net is full of tasty recipes. Just search "Savory [grain] recipes".
