So Good in So Many Ways

I've had this fantasy for a couple of years now, and it's not a serious fantasy but it is also not completely unserious.

When Occupy Wall Street first came about, I thought about how I'd like to interact with those kids (I'm 61).

Around that time I found a YouTube of The Heart Sutra that just captured me. I found saying the sutra in Sanskrit was an interesting experience, this is one of the oldest languages on earth and you can feel that when you speak it.

Here's the video I memorized the sutra from - I'm not completely happy with the melody but it is a helpful one to learn to memorize the sutra.

And then I visited my Twitter timeline which has been very depressing lately with all the fear mongering and various other kinds of mongering going on.

And then I heard this:

And it was the exact feeling I got when learning the Heart Sutra, and with such a richness to it, a richness of feeling.

Oh -- my fantasy was to go to a city park, bring some kind of boom box where I could play the YouTube, print out a bunch of Heart Sutras both in Sanskrit and in English, and invite people to learn just how to sing it -- and then see what happened. Of course, the fantasy height of the fantasy was to get a bunch of people to sing the sutra and conduct them like an orchestra -- "The basses sing now, everyone else lay back," and then "now the sopranos," etc.

Well I said it was a fantasy.

Anyway, I haven't given in to fear this week even as all the Gods and Goddesses of Fear have been swooping about, having been evoked by a bunch of hysterical establishment politicians and their supporters.

A good Weekend to all!

Even c99p has been soaked in good old-fashioned "fear and loathing" lately. We needed a break!

Beat in the USA.

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, it almost came true. Go in peace with your thoughts this weekend.

It sounds to me like you might really enjoy going to a Kirtan practice. Basically it's a group chant, or singing, in the Hindu / Buddhist tradition. It's amazing how time completely slips. It feels like 5 minutes, but two hours will have passed. To take it to the next level, go see David Stringer if he's ever in your area. It's like a combination of a concert and kirtan, you're even encouraged to bring an instrument.

Wow, look at this. I just checked his tour schedule and he's playing the lovelight festival, a 3 day yoga retreat at a group campground "to create community with music, to enlighten ourselves… one chant at a time." Something like that could really change a person's wavelength.

Your fantasy is to bring people together in Peace. I cannot think of a more beautiful fantasy to have. I listened to the Heart Sutra you posted and I felt a sense of Peace even though I have no idea what the words mean.

Lately I have had trouble sleeping. The news of where we appear to be headed in this country and globally has had me feeling helpless. As a result, I have been spending less time reading about current events and politics. I starting back with my walking program that I had let slide and so for at least one hour each morning, the world takes a back seat and I just walk and breathe.

We so desperately need to find Peace, both individually and as human beings globally. Thank you for this very thoughtful essay. Peace.

The energy surrounding this so-called election, at this point, is so toxic i cannot watch it or even read much about it.

Walking helps.

I love your vision NPK...go for it!
