It is also, of course, an open thread to talk about anything you feel like. Hey its Saturday, so kick back,...

City wide cleanup in my town today.
Tons of volunteers with trucks haul off appliances, furniture, metal, and even household waste.
I finally got rid of those CRT analog TVs and monitors taking up space for years, a few old mattresses and odd pieces of furniture. Had my daughter help me with the bigger stuff, all 5'3" of her. The hardest piece was a monster couch in the dog/mud room. It was dog furniture for years. After three attempts getting it out the door, including taking off the door, I realized I had two options. Work it through five doorways through the house, moving furniture and another door off the hinges, or the circular saw route. It was scary running the saw through fabric, wood, and thin metal straps. But the back folded nicely onto the seat.
We put everything out Thursday because of granddaughter's birdday party last night. It started raining late Thurs and hasn't let up yet. About 1/4 the pile was scavenged by time the cleanup crew arrived this morning.
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
There are recyclers and recycling days for e-waste and
such around here, plus we each get one load per year of I forget how many cubic yards of trash. I mostly have used it for yucca which cannot be treated as green waste because it is too fibrous.
The couch sounds like a major issue. I forget when I first bought a cheap 19 buck sawzall knowk-off, but it was soooo damn useful that I replaced it with one by skill. If you put a wrecking blade on it you don't have to worry about hitting nails and metal and stuff. Love it.

Son told me at the party last night
He's funny about tools. When I borrow from him I have to return it NOW! When he borrows from me he always forgets to return, to busy or otherwise unavailable. After a few weeks or months I invariably just buy a new tool.

That's kind of the way it alsway is and has been, iirc

Wow, alot of great musicians have covered that song.
Pretty awesome.
Open talk, what's happening at the head of this country is very disturbing. I was reading some articles yesterday and read quotes from no less than five of the top officials. Wrote a rant about it, thinking about publishing it. Problem is, I don't have very nice things to say about Bernie either. That's a problem on this site, still.
I accidently left out the Hendrix version - an instrumental.
Free speech zone, criticize Bernie all you want. Nobody is really proposing solutions for our greatest, systemic, problems, but he comes closer than the rest that I've heard.
I think the best solution requires too much cooperation, empathy and unselfishness to really get off the ground.

Hey! Was that
As to the Bern, write what ya gotta write. If he can make a positive change or fire people up, I'm down with that. But fuck that 11th dimensional chess bullshit, I've had enough of that with Obomber.
As always,

To paraphrase; I may not always agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it - because the chilling of speech carries the chill of death.
At least here, even where there's disagreement, there will also be discussion.
And I always appreciate your posts, whether or not our viewpoints differ, and am sure that I'm not the only one.
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
I'm just not sure anymore what the problem is.
The puppet politicians or the American people themselves.
They both seem like "deplorables". I am beginning to lose all respect for the American people. I'm probably wrong for thinking this way, but they are beginning to look like sheeple to me.
For a couple of years now, my brother has been trying to talk me into pooling our pensions and buying a big sailing ship and anchoring it off the Bahamas. Neither one of us knows how to sail, but he says we can hire someone who does know to move us around the islands as we please.
I don't know though, I have grandchildren and he doesn't, and that is a problem for me as I cannot be away from them for long periods of time.
It's an enticing thought though.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

Intensive propaganda saps more than the perception of reality within populattions. Without access to verifiable information, anyone may be susceptible to brainwashing - which, btw, includes such as Bernie.

I hate agreeing with Bill Maher

Would lectures on say, the denial of human activity affecting the climate be appropriate at a university, if lectures on, say, the denial of the mental capacity of women for math/the sciences generally or the need for Israelis to starve/dispossess/bomb effectively captive Palestinian citizens are OK under US-style free speech definitions?
The types of hate speech often objected to, as far as I've read, are those Canadians don't want in Canada either - and it made a lot of difference to what was 'normalized' and 'acceptable' within our society, regarding the perceptions and treatment of people. At least up until Harper removed such law as our protections against propaganda being presented as 'news'...
