popmoney - bank to bank transfers

Since we've been talking about how to give JtC and family a stable income, the methods of how to get money from us to him on a regular basis has been the topic of several discussions.

JtC signed up to be a recipient on popmoney.

Here is a summary of how popmoney works. Click on the link above to use their service.

There are two ways you can use this service: 1) through your bank or CU if they offer it; or 2) through popmoney directly.

We use popmoney through Citi and they have two rules: no fee; minimum is $10 for a transaction. This takes usually 2-3 business days to get to the recipient.

We have to send a PM (Private Message) to JtC to request his email address.

The other method is to use popmoney directly, which they charge a flat .95 cents for no matter the size of the transaction. Again as far as I know (afaik) you need JtC's email addy.

He then gets notified that money is waiting and he has an account number tied to his email which then points your withdrawal to his routing number (which is shielded from everyone).

There is a box for recurring amounts to be set up as well.

They will ask for a phone number which can be a landline, mobile, Skype phone number. It just must be US as far as I know. They will call you almost immediately with a code to use to be sure you are legit.

Then I think that's it. the website is quite helpful. While our bank has a $10 minimum and no fee, I am not sure the popmoney has a minimum. The fee is always .95 cents up to $500 or $2000. They do have rules about how much can be transfered in a day. Note to record-keepers our monthly is $10.

Hopefully this helps, especially those like us who don't want to us or can't use PayPal.

I hope DaveinCleveland sees this so he can boil it into his info.

Really hoping we can see a thermabulb visual - hope, hope.

Thanks everyone.

Harry

if for some reason we should use that one instead of paypal or if each of us can stay with what we did before or not. As JtC will receive the money in so many different ways, it might not be easy for him to track and then find a way to make the money that came in, visible and transparent for the members of C99p on a webpage to see. I still think it's one feature that the C99 expense group, daveincleveland suggested to form, should work on.

It should all be going into one and the same account #. How you pay is simply the vehicle to get it there.

Do we want to see and know about total sum per month only? Or do we want to see recurring donations' amount per member (without relating the number to a member's name/handle)? Do we want to know about "big" single donations and from whom they come? Do we want to know the totals of which donations are one time donations and which ones are recurring ones?

Can we set up a system that is fairly transparent, protective of the members and basically so effective, that after a while we won't need to think about money anymore, because it's set up and would work?

I think it is also critical to maintaining the harmony and trust that exists in this community. The #hashtag you suggested would be a great way to help the community stay informed The details you are curious about, however, are premature imo.

To my knowledge, the groups has not even formed yet. One of the first things it might want to do is establish operating guidelines, more formally known as bylaws, for the group. How will it meet, for example? Will they do it in emails on an established schedule or will they look at buying "go to meeting" software to conduct the meetings from some of the money they collected? Once they do that, they might split the work up and assign different pieces to different people to work on and bring back to the larger group.

While this is definitely a funding effort for c99 so it can pay for JtC and his related expenses, everyone needs to remember that this is a privately owned blog and JtC is responsible for any tax and legal liabilities it might incur. As long as they make sure JtC signs off on what they are doing and they keep their effort and the money transparent, it should be fine. The only thing that absolutely needs to be kept private and protected is the real identity of the people contributing to c99.

We'll all learn more as it develops. If you want to be on the group, send an email to DavidinCleveland and let him know.

as I can't code and can't write, I just threw out some comments of how I envision whatever the group does and decides in their "meetings" would appear on the C99p website to see for all.

I don't think that I can really do something in that group that would help. If I should learn skills and feel that might change in the future, I can always ask to join in at a later point. I was thinking to go back and get me some coding and webdesign and database management skills. I haven't done anything on that venue since 1998 and all in all, I hoped to get into something that is "off the computer and off the internet" and not "into it", but these days that's impossible. We will see.

I sure trust that most have the same ideas about privacy and transparency and as it's a privately owned site by JtC, he will decide as to how much he will let us know what's going on or not.

Thank You, dkmich, I am good to go now and just see what will develop.

Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.

There is NO FEE, and there is NO MINIMUM. Johnny/c99 registers with the app. We register with the app. You put in c99 and up comes the screen to send him money - bank to bank OR you can add a credit card and pay with it from the same app. The app automatically sends emails to the parties so you have a record of what you paid. You can also use it to invoice people. In addition to a handy way to transfer money, it would be a handy and separate account for JtC to use to run the business instead of commingling funds. It also has cash tags - for recruiting donations. It also has some reporting capabilities.

I use it ith my grandsons at college. Usually hey get it within one day.

just for the C99p expense group or pinned to the top of the community part of C99p, where all comments could be gathered under one diary for a longer period. It gets complicated to follow so many comments spread out in diaries from Friday night on.

A permanent Open Thread diary for the committee group who handles everything that concerns money raising and accounting for the site.

David has posted that he's working on it. Theses things take time. He said he will contact the people who said they want to be involved and create a group. It will get more organized as time goes on.

everything done behind the curtain. I mean that's just my personal view of things and I am not up to persuade anyone of my views. Sorry for the question.

I agree with you and have been advocating transparency as well. I think it will be vital to success that we have a way to see at a glance exactly where the funding is in relation to the goal on an ongoing basis. I'm just saying it will take a bit of time to get things in place. I appreciate your enthusiasm. Smile

i agree with you mimi. This needs a lot of transparency. It is the only way to help and protect c99 at the same time.

I get billed for my mule's acupuncture and herbs through it (works better than the drug he used to get!). An emailed invoice comes, I click on a link, and it's just a five-minute snap to pay with my credit card.

I haven't done anything recurring on it, though, or initiated anything on it.

was safe to use. I said what if the money disappears into the ethers? Apparently, Square belongs to/works with Chase. Having an institution behind it convinced me. Now, I wouldn't be without it. The apps for square and my credit card are on my phone in a box called "garden". Money grows on trees - right?
