OT ~ Welcome to Saturday!

Sit-a-while
on swinging porch
where tin-dippers and
sweet water
in cool touches
meet lips
from hand dug wells.
Good morning good people!
Writing on-the-fly this morning: been a taxing evening; most news leads with tales of scoundrels, except for the company store increasing its share of the worker's bounty, there is dancing in the Senate chamber.
Who dances for us
who dance with wolves
shearing lambs
feeding children
hope and love
misdirected by the One
collecting coinage on the run
to be elected once again
silver hats and golden booties
swinging guns in righteous might
voting deeds done in night
choreographing others plight
all trickling down to center stage
where is the rage, where is the rage?
Who will dance with us
Morning poem:
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
~ William Shakespeare
A little music:
“A day spent without the sight or sound of beauty, the contemplation of mystery, or the search of truth is a poverty-stricken day; and a succession of such days is fatal to human life.”
~ Lewis Mumford
Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning, smiley ~~
'Tis a sad day in America,
the evidence is easy to see
no one is representing us
against the powers that be.
What we call the duopoly
pretends to have our back
when in fact, their plan is to
keep their trust-fund intact.
Unless the citizens rise up
and stand against the oligarchy,
they will be subjected to a life
of continued cloaked slavery.
"The “jumpers” reminded us that one day we will all face only one choice and that is how we will die, not how we will live." Chris Hedges on 9/11
You bring a smile, RA, good morning and good poem...
it is raining oligarchs outside. And i fear their travesty goes unnoticed and Trump is not impeached.
Thanks again for replying with your spot on poem, lifts my spirits.
Have a good one!
This NYT piece "it feels like distant noise," is a good read...
CANTON, Ohio — The tax bill convulsing a bitterly divided Congress may seem like the ultimate high stakes political showdown in Washington. But on a rainy afternoon in a county that voted for Donald J. Trump, it feels like distant noise, an opaque battle in a faraway land whose meaning for everyday life is unknown.

Good morning, Smiley7. Thank you for the OT and the great
column that it is embedded in. Thanks too for the poem.
Another victory for the oligarchs, and thence more power for the oligarchs. Short of revolution or at least a national strike, it looks like nothing can break that cycle, but is it inevitable? Need money and power be synonymous? Can boycotts, rolling mini-strikes, local cooperative ventures, sharing, and producing for ourselves what we can start to upset that juggernaut? We living outside of intentional communities need to really begin to contemplate this problem and try to find answers and actions.
One personal question for each of us is how much wxtra are we able and willing to pay in order to buy from ourselves instead of the monopolies and oligarchs?
We can't wait for external saviors - they aren't there, and really never have been. The lesser evil isn't even that, but a petri dish full of self serving ineptitude. After all, when all is said and done, HER got HER turn; this is what the lessergarchs wanted, what they lied and cheated to bring about. Hence, it is, as always, up to us.
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
"but a petri dish full of self serving ineptitude," well said,
el, well said. Maybe out turtle with one person, step at a time, can beat this self-serving hare and change the future by as you say, helping each other; hoping so.
Thanks for reading and being here!
Distant noise
Yes and no. I fear the impact will be especially harsh for our parents and children and is in the near future.....not distant enough.
Here is a bit of something I enjoy. I don't know what the lyrics mean but I will figure it out eventually.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
@riverlover Ha!
That must be it, I should have know, and close enough I'd say.
Lovely, thank you for this music!
You are right, immediate bad impacts from the "BILL" and i share your concerns. Hell, textbooks in NC charter schools depict Jesus riding dinosaurs and we tax payers pay for the books, teachers, buildings and all through vouchers, the situation is frightening and already gone way too far--we are deep down the rabbit hole. This shift of resources is a gigantic digging machine.
I read the distance as people not being aware of what's going on and really, how can they when so many oligarchs spread so much propaganda on their screens and radios.
Bookmarking the artist for future Saturdays, thanks again and have a great one!
@smiley7 Thank you for the music
One thing I’m becoming increasingly certain of
The way to a better world so lauded by Hillary supporters and Social Justice Warriors — that way lies madness.

Followed enough yellow brick roads...
into this maddening abyss or should i write enough yellow leaders, not being red, not being blue, not being true.
Thanks for the link and for being here; hoping your day is brighter than the news.
Hi, Smiley! Thanks for the lovely poetry, music,
and image. Needed it today!
Hey, couldn't figure out some of the rhetoric about tax increases, since some of the 'changes' actually would benefit most individuals and couples--of modest to middle-class means, who don't itemize. (We have to itemize extensively, so we knew that the tax bill wouldn't be to our advantage. That was a given.)
Then, I finally ran across a piece that mentioned one of the policies that none of the shills in the MSM were talking about--the Chained CPI!
Remember how we all fought this (over at DKos) during the Grand Bargain negotiations?
From what I've gleaned, Repubs haven't yet called for the Chained CPI to be applied to federal 'transfer programs' like Social Security, SSDI, SSI, etc., but, both the House and the Senate included this 'reform' to be applied to federal income taxes.
Now, I understand 'why' federal income taxes are expected to start rising in several years. (about 2023? I think)
My point being, we need to watch for, and fight against, the inclusion of this 'change' as it would apply to our social welfare program--such as the COLA for Social Security.
And, we also need to heavily pressure Dems to vote for the 'waiver' that McConnell has promised Susan Collins, that would nullify the 4% automatic cut to Medicare, which will be due to the Pay-Go Rule.
What a way to start the weekend, eh?
Hey, have a good one!

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage."--Lao Tzu
Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
Hi, Mollie! Yeah, indeed, the 'bill' is loaded with surprizes.
Tax cuts for individuals sunset, but corporate decreases do not; imagine that? CPI, death in a thousand cuts. Noticed your post about Tim Kaine's catfood. This BS rolls down hill so fast dodging it wears us all out. They know that, i suppose, political sleight of hand.
Poor cancer patients...if like 2013, Medicare won't pay for needed meds; damn these politicians and the oligarchs who purchase them.
Cheers for the heads-up.
Hey, arn't you traveling? if so, be safe and enjoy; great to see you!
