The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart.
-- St. Jerome

Fascinated by the facial expressions witnessed in odd encounters. Normally the focus is
on the eyes, then spreads out to the muscular tensions about the face. It is a form of
'knowing' another solely by observation. And if parsing uncertainty, an intentional shift
to evoke reaction helps complete the picture.

~

Some 'science' has encoded various emotions using measuring probes. Attempting to
classify into categories such as sadness, fear, happiness, contempt, anger, disgust
and surprise seems to lack nuance. Can curiosity and doubt be shown simultaneously?

“We found that rich nuances in facial behavior — including subtle expressions we associate with awe, pain, triumph, and 13 other feelings — are used in similar social situations around the world,”

A gray one here, but clearing as the day goes by. After the 5.1" rain yesterday, you can hear water running down the mountain. Nice after several dry months.

My better half is better with faces than me. I'm good on actions, plot lines, and what happened. Interesting how we focus on different things...makes the world a richer more textured place.

Autistic people often have difficulty recognizing facial expressions and the emotions written in faces. Children were harmed with the face mask requirements during the plandemic.

Well, better face up to today's chores. Y'all have a good one. Thanks for the OT!

both the rules and laws to suit the fantasies of those in power.

This item caught my eye over at NC this AM:

Now, Democrats are about to do another short sell. They are expected to unanimously oppose holding Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress despite his flagrant violation of a subpoena to appear for a standard closed deposition.

https://themessenger.com/opinion/hunter-biden-contempt-democrats-opposit...

which sparks a frown of disbelief on my face.

Then, apparently Fauci perjured himself again in front of a House Committee.
And nothing is done about truthful accountability?

“Fauci repeatedly and flagrantly violated U.S. government policies implemented to protect the public from lab-generated pandemics. He lied — brazenly — to Congress about his policy violations in three Senate hearings in 2021-2022. He lied — brazenly — to Congress about his policy violations again yesterday.”

https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/anthony-fauci-pandemic-house...

On this, a look of utter wrath unfolds. Subtle slight variations of the above.

Imagine a black walnut tree. It is autumn. There are two men and one woman standing around the tree. They are hungry, but the black walnuts have incredibly tough shells and cannot be opened easily. So what to do? Crack the walnuts open with a rock? What if the rock breaks instead? Remember, these are black walnuts. Now, maybe one of them could get a car and run over the walnuts with the car. But how are they going to get to the tree with the car? The area is not car-accessible. And none of them owns a car. How are they going to get a car?

Pick up walnut and put in bag. Drag to house. Some people soak them to dehusk the nuts. Let dry in bag for a couple of weeks. Then drive car over bag to crack. Dry for another week or two, and then crack and process.

faces that were also complex scenes when viewed upside down or else with a shift of of focus, but I cannot recall whom. Then there is pareidolia which can generate odd effects and to which humans are all prone to some extent. I personally can dissociate rather readily and I tend not to focus on faces or parts thereof overly long because bizarre things can happen.

Meanwhile: Aa Turkish paper asserts that

"Western mercenary companies are already scaling back their support for the Kiev regime because they could only deliver corpses, not victory flags, to their owners,"

South China Morning Post tells us that

China State Railway Group said it would complete prototype production and testing of CR450 high-speed train, which could reach speeds of up to 450km/h (280mph), this year.

and the Asia Times seems to be fear-mongering that a "wrong" result in Taiwan's Elections could trigger an invasion by China.

Great exposition of what would be required by NATO to invade Ukr and take the Russians head on. Yes, to adequately do it is right now and probably for at least 5 years physically impossible. The link Show More goes to the list of what NATO would have to put together. Of course there is always the Middle East to start up a war.

Hey Capt.!

Hope it is all good way up noreast!

Never fact-checked it but in the 80's it went around that it took 16 or so muscles to smile, and over 75 to frown.

My dutch grandma said when you get old, everyone will be able to tell how you lived, smiling, or frowning, happy or sad, mean or nice. I guess some people just don't care?
