Hey el. I always enjoy your number fun.

Not only is it the solstice , but also the full strawberry moon. Here's what earth-sky has to say:

Celebrate a June solstice full moon on June 20, 2016. It’s the Northern Hemisphere’s first summer solstice full moon since 1967, aka the Summer of Love.
Watch for a full-looking moon on the eve of the June solstice (June 19, 2016) and a full moon on the solstice itself (June 20). From what we’ve been able to gather (sources below), this is the first full moon to fall on the June solstice since the year 1967, which some recall as the year of the Summer of Love, a social phenomenon centered on San Francisco, London and other places around the globe. There’ve been a number of near misses of full moons on June solstices, however. And we are indeed talking about the June solstice, not solstices in general. In fact, there was a full moon eclipse on the December solstice in 2010.
It appears as if the full moon and June solstice won’t fall on the same calendar date again until June 21, 2062.

http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/june-solstice-full-moon-in-2016

June's full moon arrived Monday today at 7:02 a.m eastern. About 12 hours later, spring turns to summer at 6:34 p.m. Two hours after that, the full moon will still look plenty big when it rises at 8:41 p.m.

So everyone enjoy this longest day of the year (unless you're in the S hemisphere in which case enjoy your shortest day of the year), and I hope it ushers us all into a summer of hope and joy!

of the last solstice (summer?) with a full moon. Summer of Love. Coincidence? Portent?

I will dance naked on my deck tonight, should have done it this morning. Moon up, 5AM. Blew it. And weather may get heavy later (a wonderful mariner term).

Happy Birthday, el. See, I read the text.

I had never heard that one before. I am pretty sure he is playing it on this homemade guitar...distinctive tone.

Great clip Bisbonian

His father was a farmer by trade, and an accomplished and recorded old-time folk singer, mouth bow player, and story teller in his own right; and the acorn didn't fall far from the tree. Jimmy grew up seemingly knowing every folk tale that there was to learn in the Ozarks, both from whites and Native Americans (of whom there were many, including his future wife, who was one-quarter Cherokee). He learned to play guitar as a boy on a homemade instrument fashioned by his paternal grandfather, a fiddle maker. Its neck came from a fence rail, its sides from an old ox yoke, and the head and bottom from the headboard of his grandmother's bed. This unique instrument produced a pleasant distinctive sound and was used by Driftwood throughout his career. (It became his trademark and is currently on display in the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame in Pine Bluff.) Driftwood, like his father, also played an outsized mouth bow 2, which he said gave a "fatter" sound than similar smaller instruments.

is like an icosahedron: she, too, has 20 faces.

If your name is Marcus Valerius Messalla Barbatus, it is inevitable that you will be involved in killing people.

Queen Victoria was German. The British picked Germans to rule them, after they ran out of French. Victoria, she was sort of the polar opposite of Messalina, daughter of the aforereferenced Marcus Valerius Messalla Barbatus.

Lizzie Borden was the OJ Simpson of her day.

If Benjamin Franklin had had his way, there would be a turkey on the Great Seal, rather than an eagle. Instead of holding an olive branch and arrows, the bird would be accompanied by mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.

There are currently 20-eleventy-trillion sites on the tubes feverishly asserting the Great Seal is Proof the US is owned and controlled by Hebrews/Illuminati/Lizard People.

They named an insecticide after Kurt Alder. Then they banned it. Because it was poison.

There were a number of sequels to that "Bette Davis Eyes" song. One was "Bugsy Siegel Eye."

enhydra lutris, he gets a birthday song.

There are also 20 cigarettes in a pack.

Starting Day 5 of kicking the habit. I think it's going to take this time. I know it's going to take this time because apart from the esoteric value of quitting (which I never appreciated in the first place) I have a real goal.

I'm 8 years, 1 Month, and 8 days since my last cigarette.

I used to smoke at my desk a lot, so I replaced reaching for a cigarette with reaching for a glass of ice cold water. I kept an ice bucket full and ready so the water was always ice cold.

For me, replacing the motion allowed to keep part of my habit in place, and each time I took a sip, I was still rewarded/shocked due to the cold water.

I don't even know how many packs of cigarettes I burned up getting focused on my computer work, but that's what worked for me. Elsewhere, I stayed with the order or have something cold to reach for thing and it helped.

Referencing benefits on occasion gave me some additional incentive as well.

Once my ex was gone, and the divorce happened and other things leveled out, I wound up quitting. My last attempt to quit was successful, but started unintentionally due to a severe allergic reaction. By the time I could light up again, I was 4 days along without a cigarette and I still couldn't cope with inhaling as it was just too painful.

So I kept going and didn't bother to find out again if it hurt to inhale. I count that (the last day I lit up) as my true start for quitting though even though I technically had 4 days in already. I suppose I could make a claim to 4 more days, but to me, that would seem like cheating. LOL

I've abstained from smoking several times over the years. I joke I quit everyday, then I wake up.

I used to go through a pack a day or better. Then I got a snuffer because I'd burn my fingers so often. Now I don't smoke a whole CIG, and they don't just burn up. Now I usually take a puff or two at a time. I'll usually light the same CIG five or six times. Packs last three days, sometimes into the fourth.

find the quitting easy, one hour at a time. It's the staying stopped. Self hypnosis, meditating and listening to meditation tapes, dates me as someone who has experience with quitting.

Good fortune in your next attempt

Since Feb 1, 2015 I have not touched a cigarette. But I vape all the time except where it's not legal. I have tired once to reduce the nicotine content, a minor fail. Have not had a cold since.

for up to and over a year. Last time I was rolling my own and I kept the butts in sight and easy reach for over a year. Then the wife had a rough pregnancy and for her last six weeks of pregnancy was housed a mile from hospital, over thirty miles from our home. Getting home from work, packing other two kids, hurrying to visit, hurrying home and getting the kids to bed every night began to take its toll.
Three days before she delivered I broke down and smoked a butt. I think I had three the next day and five or six the day after. Then the call at 10pm telling me it was time and I said, fuck it, and bought a pack out of town. Must've smoked five on the way to the hospital.

Alan Longmuir had been out of the group for a couple of years already. He'd quit in embarrassment when it was learned just how old he was! As I recall it turned out he was....27! (gasp!! an old guy!!)

We saw the group in Anaheim. Shaz didn't like the guitarist (Eric Faulkner). The crowd of little girls was in a frenzy and shaz said, wishfully, "maybe they'll kill him", like the Maenads slew Pentheus. (didn't we have a recent essay about that? I forget)
