Navel Gazing

We are a nonpartisan site, which to me denotes a diversified discussion board with no one political ideology dominating the others. It's about tolerance. It's about ideological inclusion. It's about allowing freedom of thought. It's about civility.

Did we not all flee from ideological rigidity? Isn't the free-range political discourse thusly afforded the reason most sought this site out?

Our hope is that no voice is silenced, no one shamed for alternate opinion, no assessment of purity.

We hope not to become that which we loath, lest we forget what this site was meant to be. I hesitate to think of what will happen if one ideology becomes dominant and caucus99percent becomes a one trick pony.

Agendas spin, the body politic fragments, the world burns, and no one wins except the, well, I think we all know the answer.

Well said as usual!

There is an irony here: the occasional kerfluffels which break out from time to time are evidence that we are not becoming that, and will not become that. The very thing which seems to threaten its arrival (the "one-trick pony" c99) is the very thing which will prevent it.

Your people will not let you down on this, noble Conqueroo. I can state that with confidence, from long experience.

As for me, if I ever said anything which gave the impression that a "one-trick pony" sort of c99 was what I wanted, my apologies for the errors. While I stick up for what I advocate, God forbid that I should ever prohibit the expression of other views!

And I feel that most of us here would agree with me on those points!

@JtC I especially like that recording is old vinyl; I can hear it. Haven't heard that in a long time. Though I still have all my old vinyl, I have not had a working turntable for years, so mine go unlistened, stacked in a wood chest I have.

Would that be Kansas, Nebraska, or Oklahoma?

I lived in Kansas City, Kansas for 10 months and worked in a Mexican restaurant called Chi Chi's where people didn't want to order the quacamole dip because it was "green". But that was back in the 1980's and quacamole dip wasn't really a popular thing outside of California. Smile

@Anja Geitz
just a nickname. I think it dates back to the days before westward expansion was yet to cross the Mississippi River and Illinois was at that time considered the "Wild West".

Illinois' license plates have "Land of Lincoln" on them and has for as long as I can remember.

Several Lincoln-Douglas debates and the Blackhawk War are just a couple of historic events that happened in this specific part of the state.

my proposal occasioned this reminder, JtC. An accusation, based upon an assumption, was made that it was blatantly partisan. I responded at some length that the assumption is incorrect. I respect the ground rules here and do certainly agree that this site is and should remain nonpartisan. I fail to see how anyone could possibly construe my wording into such an assumption. However, I am and remain open to your guidance.

By the way, I have an innie.

for over 3 years now. With new members coming in it helps to periodically review the ideals that this site was predicated upon. I had noticed several comments lately wondering just that, I thought it might be a good time to revisit said ideals.

At this current moment mine is a lintie.

What I observe here at the site is an eternal struggle to find some sort of strategy to combat the global corporate oligarchy. We all grasp at straws...or perhaps life preservers.

Sadly I don't find a single trick or any number of tricks to address this dilemma. I can't imagine this community shoved into any one box...too many informed people. I hope your worries are for naught, JtC.

As always I appreciate all your efforts creating and maintaining our site. I enjoy your occasional meta pieces too. Wishing you all the best in the prairie state from here in the 3rd world state of Alabama...where waists are wide and minds are narrow and the time zone is 50 years ago.

Hah, good one! Much of my state resembles that observation as well. This state is so far in the red that I don't know how it can be dug out. It's all the fault of the pensions and the freebies so we're told, so no doubt those that can afford it the least will be those that will do most of the digging.

@JtC
They just bulldoze the holes we're in by virtually eliminating pensions. Problem solved AND the bulldozer work can be included in total infrastructure spending.

We took the blue pill and spit out the orange pill (or it spit us out) and I think we came away from orange pill land having learned too many bad habits. We're kind of refugees,or the opposition in exile. Most of what goes down here would be rigidly suppressed at TOP. We need to maybe not react so fast to what we think the tone of something typed is, and maybe think a little faster than we type. I am guilty of all that, and hope to do better. There are not too many places like this.

The motto of free-range politics, organic community is very befitting for Caucus99%.

I also want to believe that every one of us who comes here to post or just read is someone who believes that we all have the necessary critical thinking skills to enable each of us to make our own decisions. When we limit our ability to be challenged by new ideas or even uncomfortable ones, we are depriving ourselves of using our brains to decipher what is real, true, or believable.

The world does not exist in a binary mode. Most things are not just black or white, but are comprised of varying shades of grey. For this reason, I believe there are truths existing in places that we may not have searched in the past but need to allow ourselves to view.

We human beings have far more in common than we have differences. We need to learn how to ally with one another because we are fighting for the survival of our species against some very dark forces.

Thank you JtC for reminding us not to fall into the trap of declaring subjects, sources and people off limits simply because they may present an alternative view.
