Well this isn’t good.

Naval blockade would mean ‘war’: Moscow slams US idea of hampering Russian trade

Attempts to use the US Navy to block Russia’s trade would amount to a declaration of war, a high-ranking senator commented on the US internal secretary’s idea of impeding Russia’s energy trade through a blockade.

“A US blockade of Russia would be equal to a declaration of war under international law,” said the head of the Russian Senate’s Information Policy Committee, Aleksey Pushkov, commenting on a report that US Internal Secretary Ryan Zinke suggested the US could use the navy to block Russian energy from hitting Middle East markets.

Pushkov also called Zinke’s claim that trade expansion is the real reason behind Russia’s involvement in Syria “absolute nonsense.”

The very idea that Russia could potentially supply energy to the Middle East, which is literally “oozing with oil,” is absolutely detached from reality, Pushkov said. Indeed, Russia does not supply any energy to the region, which is itself a major oil exporter, and has never announced plans to do so.

The Russian senator added that Zinke’s statement is “on par” with Sarah Palin’s claim that she was qualified to talk about Russia since “they’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia here from Alaska.” The former Alaska governor made the statement in an interview when she was the Republican vice-presidential candidate in the 2008 US election.

All I have to add is the question ‘what would the US do if faced with a naval blockade, particularly in the WESTERN hemisphere where we belong?’

@eState4Column5

@annieli @annieli tRump's cabinet members aren't even competent in their assigned areas so an anything they say about other policy areas is pretty much garbage. I mean it's not like they're working someone important like a Faux News couch dweller.

@annieli While idiotic, it is no more idiotic that cries that "Russian interference" in the election was as bad or worse than 9-11 and Pearl Harbor--or that Putin is the equivalent of Hitler or Stalin. It is the so-called liberal who are claiming Russia has committed an act WAR!!. And now these anti-Russian "liberals" are claiming the comments about a blockade are stupid? Hey, man, it is war. It is likes somebody goading on a person to fight another, and then claiming innocence and surprise that a fight happened.

The constant drum beat of articles in TOP or clips from the Young Turks which use the language of conspiracies, which use aggressive, militant, homophobic and even racist language toward the Russians has created the conditions for the justification of a shooting war with Russia. It is the same sorts of language and themes that the real German Nazis used against the Jews claiming a universal Jewish conspiracy against them and European civilization ("liberal democracies").

that Zinke and Trump, et al, do not understand?
Didn't Hillary promote the idea of limited target nukes?
Do they all think they can get themselves to New Zealand beforehand without anyone (Russia) noticing a whole bunch of planes headed there?
I do not want to be included in their mass suicide.

agree to every bullshit plan somebody comes up with and runs with it? Is it crazy John Bolton? Thjs sure isn’t getting the AirPlay on the 6:00 o’clock news.

This is a last ditch effort to stop BRICS from taking our place as world ‘leader’ and master of the world’s economy. It’s not us that matters anyway. Some people are planning ahead:

Am I just too jaded and cynical because I’m sure that these people are insane and they have no idea what they’re doing or who they’re messing with? We would not be tangling with some Third World military . And that whatever it is that they are doing, we’re not their first concern. That’s why I’m surprised there isn’t a peace movement forming. We have never needed it more than we do today. These fools running underground like rats need to remember, nuclear contamination isn’t going away in a week or two and the entire planet WILL feel the effects of a nuclear war:

I was sure The Clinton Creature would get us in this mess. I was HOPING that Trump was more for staying ‘out’ of these things. At least more than TCC. Wrong again.

Is it crazy John Bolton?

From what I can tell, it is John Bolton. No one - not even lunatic Michael Pompeo - is as totally insane in his lust for war as John Bolton. Ever since Bolton was brought into the Trump administration, it's nearly an everyday occurrence to see a photo of Trump with Bolton within arms-length distance of him.

I suspect a God-needs-a-little-help-with-Armageddon religious fanaticism in regard to Bolton. More than just a few others in the Trump administration seem to be fellow travelers.

You kind of get the idea that the elites know that something is going to happen in the near future don't you what with them buying property in New Zealand and their buying and building bunkers underground that will allow them to ride out the apocalypse. I'm just hoping that their security people who they think are going to protect them rise up and take their place.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@Amanda Matthews How exactly are the rich to protect their stores if they even make it to their bunkers. Hire security guards?--who will turn on them and take the stores themselves. Or the surviving locals. The rich are deluded in thinking that their money and privilege will continue into a world that makes Mad Max looking like a pacifist Paradise.

@MrWebster
they’d only be underground for a month or two. Hope their kids like life in a bunker.

The comment is idiotic. However, these "war tropes" have become normal now. The idiotic part isn't the problem, but that acts of war against Russia can be uttered even Zinke. I can only guess that he attended a cabient meeting or something similar where the issue of a blockade was seriously considered.
