The Logos ot Thalia
Before the great heroes have their say and
speak of lofty deeds and great battles won
I must inquire to the audience
on a matter most dire and portentous.
Who farted? For I can see islands within
the throng, where some have edged away from stench
and yet have said nothing for the time immemorial.
Even here upon the stage I can smell
The foul reek that emanates from the box
wherein sits the most honored and esteemed
among the multitude. Stand, take a bow
for your moldering meal requests a speech.
Do you shy away from acknowledgement?
Many is the day a single prayer
would have lifted my trumpet high and clear.
Yet you sit upon your own and claim it
to be merely the work of all that hold still.
Or perhaps it was the act of your hound.
Or a passing merchant with cuttlefish
And yet we can all smell it, and it comes
from your most grand and lofty position.
Don't regret your acts, for you have often
spoken in private of the great volumes of gas
that you extract, and marvel at it's power.
Look, even the chorus shall join you in
tribute to the mighty clouds that you feign
not to see. I have given them bladders
for those who do not feast as well as the rich.
Sing, Oh toothless chorus! Sing, Oh Glorious
and echoing. Let the hall fill with the good
that they proclaim upon us for they are wise.
Let us spare a moment to really grasp
The fine air that they have given to us.
The clean water that they mix with our wine.
The pure and empty amphora of oaths,
that peace would reign if they ruled over all.
And let us all give one great cheer and cry
our thanks to them in the speech that they love
even though they claim it not, their legacy.
A greatly deserved tribute to the mighty.

Yes, this is pretty much a long fart joke.
But there's a lot more going on than JUST a fart joke, or at least I hope that's pretty obvious. Thalia is a lot wiser than people think she is. Thanks to her for this, because this was 100% her.
Edit: Staging notes... this should be played as straight as possible, with the actors keeping an extremely straight face, especially during the "Sing" portions, which involve the chorus all pressing down on bladders (Whoopie cushions) in chorus. Yes, it's a dumb joke, but at the same time, Thalia's saying a lot more than just a fart joke.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
One other thing. I was tempted to change the typo...
in the title... but it works as a visual gag with this font...
Bear with me, English major/Poet bullshit ahead.
By leaving it in, the pronunciation of the title becomes the logos ot'thalia, which naturally causes the voice to stutter slightly if read without knowing the joke. It feels really weird in the mouth, and without practice in enunciation comes out sounding rather funny. (Seriously, try saying out loud. It actually sounds rather funny)
Plus it's so close in look to the "f" that a casual reader won't notice it, because all of the OTHER Logos have the correct title. Essentially, it's a joke that will absolutely be missed by a casual reader, who will assume that I just made a typo, and totally not try to read it out loud.
And that was some PRIMO English Major Bullshit, huh?
Edit: Because I actually made a typo in my explanation of why I wasn't changing a typo.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Good and a great beginning, thanks.

Well, they say always open with a joke...
Aaaand since I've done my English Major Bullshit, time to toss in my Theater Geek Bullshit as well.
Sad endings don't make people want to watch a piece more than once. I can think of all the pieces I have truly enjoyed, and I honestly find that the ones I watch over and over give me hope, make me smile and aren't afraid to be truthful about things that hurt. A piece that essentially ends with "People are garbage and the world sucks" after starting with "People are garbage and the world sucks" isn't one that I want to watch.
On the other hand, there can be real truth in a laugh:
