A Latina Against Hillary
So this is my first diary ever on the Internet.
I have lurked here and commented a bit a TOP. First off, I am a Millennial Latina living in Texas. I was raised in a poor but loving family. I got a scholarship to a top university and was sure that it was my ticket to a middle class lifestyle. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I spent most of my 20s being poor. It wasn't until my late 20s that I finally started living a middle class lifestyle. So that is a little about me.
I am a Bernie supporter. I voted for him in the Texas primary because I truly believe that he is the only politician willing to fight for us non-rich people. The media is constantly talking about how if Bernie supporters don't vote for Hillary, then women and minorities will suffer some horrific harm. Oh no! But I am still not voting for Hillary and I totally resent how Hillary, her supporters, and her allies in the media use me as a human shield. According to them, if you don't vote for Hillary, then I, a Latina, will suffer irreparable harm. But I am so damned tired of being used as a human shield by Hillary Clinton and her supporters. Let me say it here- you don't have to vote for Hillary in November to protect my family and I.
In fact, a vote for Hillary is a vote for the TPP and the military industrial complex. The TPP alone will cost untold harm to millions of people here in the United States. And thousands of men (many of them minorities) will probably be sent to fight in another useless war all to make Hillary's friends in the military industrial complex richer. A vote for Hillary is actually a vote against me and others who are just struggling to get by. I don't care about the Supreme Court because anybody that she nominates will be pro-Wall Street. How does that help me?
But what about abortion? Isn't that reason alone to vote for her? Sure if you are a rich white woman. But I am a Latina who owes more in student loans than I make in a year. Read that again. My student loans are more than my yearly salary. The economy is my main concern. Paying for my children's daycare is another top concern. In fact, my top concerns are all financial in one way or another. Talking to other Latinas, I realized that we are all concerned about our financial situations. I have only met one Latina who as obsessed with abortion as the media makes all women out to be. But the media would rather talk about anything other than the crappy state of our economy. The rich are doing great under a Democratic administration and that is all that matters to the media.
Just my thoughts. But please remember that I am not Hillary's human shield.

Comments
Thank you
for this. I'm sick and tired of people saying we have to vote for Hillary because of the SCOTUS. But what guarantees do we have that she'll put in progressive justices? If her record is an indicator then there are no guarantees. And you brought up TPP. You're absolutely correct. It will devastate what few good paying manufacturing jobs we have left. And the gap between the 1% and the rest of us will only get worse under clinton.
So yeah, I don't give a shit about clinton and her minions whining about how we have to have unity or ELSE should she win the primary. They lost my vote when they started tampering with the elections. Before that I probably would have held my nose and voted for her. But not now. And if Bernie comes out and says we need to support her because the alternative is worse, then screw you Bernie. But I truly believe he won't do that. I've always been a Democrat but from this day forward I'm done with the party until it changes in a big way.
Anyway, Very nice diary. I can tell it came from the heart...
Personnel is Policy
What kind of policy would Hillary have on SCOTUS given that she hired David Brock, a man who admits that he smeared Anita Hill in order to support Clarence Thomas? Every time I hear that argument I laugh/die slightly inside that any Democrat would see Hillary Clinton as great protection for the Supreme Court given all her associations.
This important angle has not yet been diaried
Really needs to be, pretty please.

I would love to
but I'm not sure I have really enough of a knowledge base. Most of what I know on this topic was in the post.
I couldn't agree more
with your comments.
I, too, have always been a Democrat. I've voted for every Democratic presidential nominee since I cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. I will not vote for Hillary. The thought of her being the Dem nominee breaks my heart and makes me sick. I'm still hoping beyond hope that Bernie pulls it out somehow. I saw the excitement at my northern Minnesota caucus -- enormous turnout, young people, new people, etc. It was amazing, and it was all because of Bernie Sanders.
If Clinton is the nominee, I will write in Bernie Sanders for President. Nothing else I can do.
Go Bernie!!

I have no doubt
that Bernie won this primary. Had every vote been counted correctly. Had people been allowed to exercise their constitutional rights and vote, he would win in a landslide...

You might consider posting this as a
Letter to the Editor. It doesn't have to be local. It is well written and expresses what many of us feel.
Note on the Supreme Court: Abortion has already been whittled away to the point of almost non-existence for the poor or even the middle class that we obviously cannot count on the SC to protect it. If more people would realize that, it would be a non-issue in this election cycle. (Not that I have really heard much on it yet anyway. My guess is HRC is avoiding it as she does not believe in complete rights.)

Hillary waffles on abortion rights
Bernie is clear - it should be up to the woman and her doctor. Period.
She was specifically asked about
late term abortions. She skirted the question, and she never unequivocally answers a question about abortion in general. Yes, Sanders is very clear about his positions. I like the last debate...three times...is it yes or no?

Keep on keeping on!
You're doing so well given our national situation. You're aware and working toward a better future. Your political instincts are also correct. All the best!

Welcome to the world of posting!
Perhaps we know some folks in common - am in Texas as well.
As for the abortion issue, they'll be a diary up here tonight, I believe, both here and TOP on Hillary's position on late term abortion (to regulate it) and how that impacts women who find themselves late in the game faced with challenges to their own health or that of the child-to-be.
Message me if you'll be attending the state convention - we have a tentative meetup in the works.

Her answers are going to be even more
problematic than usual with the news about Zika.

Well said and I agree completely.
I too will not vote for Hillary under any circumstances. If Trump beats Hillary in the general it is the DNC's fault for NOT promoting the by far more progressive candidate Bernie. He is a better Democrat than any that have come along since FDR. If he had half the support that Obama had from the establishment he would be winning all these primaries in landslide fashion. The DNC has become so corrupt that only burning it to the ground along with the Republicans will get this country going back in the right direction. I will vote for Jill Stein rather than write Bernie in. This is a most opportune time to start a new Peoples Progressive Party. The independents far outnumber both Dems and Repubs and neither of those parties seem interested in increasing their ranks.

Nice work.

Excellent heart-felt post
I don't tweet but perhaps this would make a good hashtag: #NotHillary'sShield
This should accompany other great tags:

Amen. I will vote for Bernie until I am no longer able.
Not sure what I'm going to do in November. I'll think about that after the convention.
Go, Bernie, go!!
Well written, BTW. I hope you'll write more.
