I call bullsh*t

bs.PNG

I call bullshit on this poll and a few others which I will get to.

With more than two years to go before the next presidential election, former Vice President Joe Biden is the early favorite to represent the Democrats and try to unseat President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, according to a new poll.

Biden was the choice of 32 percent of Democrats in a Harvard CAPS/Harris June poll that was obtained by The Hill. The party's 2016 standard bearer, Hillary Clinton, came in second with 18 percent and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was third with 16 percent.

Biden and Hillary. How depressing is that?
Well, not depressing for Trump.

“Well, I dream, I dream about Biden. That’s a dream,” Trump told anchor Jeff Glor when asked who he thought would be his Democratic opponent. “I’d love to have it be Biden.”

I simply cannot believe this poll.
Then I spotted this poll.

In a new Hill.TV/HarrisX American Barometer poll released Tuesday, an overwhelming majority of respondents, 76 percent, said they would not vote for a “socialist” political candidate, while only 24 percent of those polled said they would vote for a socialist candidate.

While I knew a lot of people are scared of the label of socialism, the percentage against seems too high.
Then I noticed that both polls were done by the same company - Harris Insights & Analytics.
Now Harris has a very good reputation. However, they got purchased in 2017 by the Stagwell Group. Who owns the Stagwell Group?
Mark Penn. I'll let Wikipedia fill in the blanks.

Together with Doug Schoen, he was co-founder of the polling firm Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates.,[2] whose clients included political and business leaders such as U.S. President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Bill Gates. Penn later served as chief strategist and pollster to Hillary Clinton in her unsuccessful campaign for the Democratic nomination for the 2008 presidential election

What a surprise! A polling group owned by a close friend of the Clintons, finds that people love Hillary and hate socialism.
That's shocking. Who could have guessed?
Penn's wife is Nancy Jacobson.

Jacobson is the "undeterrable" founder and leader of No Labels, whose mission is to bring leaders together to solve the nation's most pressing challenges. No Labels is described by David Brooks as "the most active centrist organization" in politics,[3] and has focused specifically on creating a durable bipartisan bloc in Congress capable of getting to "yes" on key issues. In early 2017, No Labels inspired the creation of the active Congressional Problem Solver Caucus which features 44 members —evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans—committed to finding bipartisan solutions

A political match made in heaven.

To be fair, Harris isn't the only polling company that loves Biden. Zogby does too.

A Zogby poll out last month showed the former vice president widening his lead against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), 26 percent to 18 percent.

Then I remembered how Markos once loved Zogby. So I looked up John Zogby.

Additionally, Zogby writes weekly columns on Forbes.com[51] and contributes a weekly Presidential report card for The Washington Examiner's Washington Secrets, by Paul Bedard.[52] He is also a founding contributor to The Huffington Post

That doesn't sound like someone who would like a socialist either.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal Went through almost a quarter in a week bad. (Pot helps, but I had to use earplugs and loud music.)

The worst part of all is the Arrhythmical and random nature of it. In the Army I could adjust to Mortars, because there would be an outgoing barrage, and you knew you were good for about five minutes and could anticipate the next. Same with firework displays. I'm anticipating it and so it's ok. Civilian fireworks explode at random.

And after Iraq, I REALLY don't like things that explode at random.

@Dr. John Carpenter
Is he talking about his own polls?

Almost two years later, very little has changed in polling and analysis at major institutions and news media. If anything, the polling has drifted even further from reality when you look at the questions being asked and, more importantly, the questions not being asked.
...
Maybe there is a blue wave coming. Or maybe it’s just another mirage. I tend to think there is blue edge. But with polling as one-sided as most of the polling in the mainstream media today, no one can know for sure.

Fuck Scott Walker

Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wis.) is trailing Democratic challenger Tony Evers by 13 points in the upcoming Wisconsin gubernatorial race, according to a new poll released Thursday.

Of the registered voters surveyed in the NBC News/Marist poll, 41 percent backed Walker in the race, compared to the 54 percent who supported Evers.

When asked if Walker deserves to be reelected, 34 percent of the voters agreed with the statement. Sixty-one percent said a new person should be given a chance, and 5 percent were unsure.

socialism

Half of the people around the world think that at present, socialist ideals are of great value for societal progress. Despite this, half of the people also agree that socialism is a system of political oppression, mass surveillance and state terror. Globally, eight in ten people think that the rich should be taxed more to support the poor. Around the world nine in ten people believe that education should be free of charge and that free healthcare is a human right. Nearly seven in ten people globally believe that every resident should have the right to unconditional basic income.

pure bullshit, if that is not an oxymoron) tale about the 2016 primary and campaign.

You know the tale -- how her employer, the DNC (whose charter requires that it remain neutral in primaries, which the DNC violates) told Disgusting Donna to run everything by the Clinton campaign--and no other Democratic primary candidate's campaign, but Donna supposedly nonetheless had no idea why, and apparently never asked why her employer was violating its charter and asking her to do the same. And apparently was in the dark about all the above, while she fed Hillary, but no other Democratic primary candidate, at least one of CNN's primary debate questions.

And then, Donna, a Catholic, became acting head of the DNC--well after CNN had fired her-- and supposedly "finally learned" the "truth," she supposedly lit candles and put on gospel music before calling Bernie Sanders on September 7, 2016 (well after the Democratic National Convention had ended with Hillary as its official nominee) to share the truth with him and apologize. (Too bad she did not also call each of Sanders' many campaign volunteers and donors and apologize.)

Anyway...as part of that tale, Donna allowed as how she had almost substituted Biden for Hillary when Hillary's campaign appeared to be in trouble. And funnily enough, he is now leading both his fellow Democrats and Independent (again) Bernie in 2020 polls. What a coincidence! Folks, please give the very prescient Donna a hand--or at least a finger.

I wonder what happened with Kamala Harris, who was looking to me like the next female Democrat to bang her head against the glass ceiling.

I can't tell you how many people say they won't vote Green because Greens have no chance of winning (nor did Hillary, IMO and nor does either the Democrat or the Republican in every single Presidential election). Alternatively, it's because the Greens are a single-issue party (false) or because the Greens accepted money from Republicans (much as Hillary accepted the public endorsements of the likes of Kristol?).

I don't think every state was holding a primary in 1950, but such states as did voted for Kefauver. However, Kefauver's hearings had revealed connections between the mob and some Dem party bosses, so Truman and some party bosses decided to run Adlai Stevenson. Humphrey dudn't enter a primary, but was nominated by some Governors. They both lost.

Is it too soon to talk about climate change affecting elections?
There is very little ice in the Arctic that is more than 1 meter thick at the end of July. 1 meter ice doesn't survive seven weeks of the melt season. I've been watching the extent and it's bad but not terrifying, but the ice seems to be melting uniformly instead of just around the edges. I have to admit the possibility of a blue ocean event this fall, in a couple of months. If not this year then next year.
Who is the candidate that will stand up and say "We've lost the Arctic. The time for debate is over. We act now or we die."? That's who I think will get the nomination, and I don't know who that is, yet.

They know the evidence is overwhelming and the claim that human actions impact it very little, if at all, keeps the environmental abusers happy. But, every time we have an unseasonably cool day, I see less shrewd Republicans posting nonsense like "What climate change?"

So far, it seems as though the Presidential p.r. has been going the way of Biden and/or Harris. I'd die laughing, as would the Republicans, if the ticket were Biden/Clinton. I think that, as with Obama and Biden (and Bush 42 and Quayle), the best bet is one young 'un and one elder, ostensibly wiser, person on the ticket. That way, the young 'un has the energy and "new car smell," as well as the benefit of the elder's experienc--and at least one of them will look likely to survive for at least the next 5 to 9 years.

Of course, the first Party to elect either a female President or a female Vice President, preferably a Hispanic, is going to be on the right side of history (unless the female is, or is very much like former nominees, SP or HRC).

@gjohnsit Who controls the Democratic party?

Do you think it's us? Do you think it's people who support good policy? Do you think it's Democratic voters in general?

Would any of those people create a system with superdelegates? What are the superdelegates there for? I mean, really, what is their *stated purpose*, said right out in the open?

"Oh, well, you can't really trust the people to vote correctly, because sometimes the people will vote for candidates who are far too left wing, and far too populist. Then those candidates lose to Republicans like Richard Nixon in the general election. No, no, don't ask why or how that happens. It's just a fact of life, like the speed of light or gravity. Smart people know that there has to be a failsafe in case ordinary people make a bad choice, something that will take the choice out of their hands if need be, and put it in the hands of savvy businessmen, I mean pragmatic politicians, I mean realists who deal with the world as we find it."

@ggersh I guess my point is that they're lying, or at best wrong. I'm pretty sure they're lying, because after 2008, anyone with half a brain would know that the LEFTIES WILL GIVE US NIXON argument is a wash. But you can't get people making a "centrist" or Clintonian argument to be honest. At best, they are lying to themselves.

They try to get out of the implications of Obama's 2008 success by pointing to Obama's actual politics, rather than his perceived politics in 2008; what the people were actually voting for instead of what they thought they were voting for. But you can't discuss what the majority of the American voters want outside the context of what they believe. What did they believe about Obama? Did they believe he was a security-state supporting Clintonian "centrist" who wanted to cut Social Security and Medicare, and who would vastly expand the wars in the Middle East? Is that the "change [they] could believe in?" Did they think, as they cast their vote, "Good, now I've ensured that the Bush tax law will become a permanent part of America!" Did they think "Great, I've put in another defender of bankers and brokers, just like the Bushes and Clintons! I'm sure he'll make sure nobody on Wall St will have to answer for all the fraud they just committed."

If they had been in support of those ideas, wouldn't they just have voted for Hillary in the primary, who had represented those policies for decades at that point?

The people who continue to defend that anti-McGovern argument, in 2018, are either in tremendous denial, or are bad-faith actors.

@dkmich Actually, if they mean this, they're being pretty stupid. There's a much smarter move they could make to keep power in their hands and keep everybody's perceptions nice and manageable. But if they want to keep grinding this axe, good for them.

Just like James II of Great Britain's attempt to re-emancipate and re-integrate his kingdoms' Catholics. http://www.jacobite.ca/

Reform works when the bad practices haven't gone too far. When they have, the pressure has built up so far that opening the lid doesn't release the pressure, it causes the lid to blow off.

Where's the outrage at the Clinton campaign using Facebook bots. Didn't they then "interfere with the election" and "hack the election"?

Not to mention the evidence of the rigged primaries. But that's never mentioned, just "Russia! Hacked the DNC! Interfered with the election". Lot's of noise so that no one discusses what was revealed to be on that DNC server, which is much much more damning than facebook bots.

Dems reverse course on White House parks plan

Democratic lawmakers are starting to get behind a Trump administration funding proposal for the national park system after expressing significant doubts about it.

The plan, which would use revenue from energy sales on federal lands and offshore to plug the maintenance backlog for the national park system, now enjoys bipartisan support just a few months before the midterm elections. Proponents of the measure are optimistic it can pass in this Congress.

Three House Democrats joined Republicans Wednesday to introduce a bill, dubbed the Restore Our Parks and Public Lands Act, that endorses using the income from oil and gas drilling on public lands to fund construction projects for the National Park Service (NPS), Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Indian Education.

In total 25 Democrats and 25 Republicans signed onto the bill.

Looks like the Biden and Hillary camps are trying to generate momentum and PR for their campaigns using polls as a propaganda device. One of thee most egreious examples was in the Oregon primary that had Hillary winning over Bernie by 10+ easily. And it was the only one cited by major media in state far as I could tell. Really, beat Bernie in Oregon? Had to be pure bullshit and it was. Bernie beat her badly.

Another was that polls claiming that Trump would lose white women. This one was pushed heavily. And lo and behold Trump won white women by 52%. This one in particular really showed what a bubble democrats were in and represented one of the biggest failures of ID politics.

Of course, seems the only one who had a handle on polls was Putin. He knew the Rust Belt was in play.

Putin. He sure as hell turned RUSSIA! around. Face it, the United States and their puppet Yeltsin trashed the place (so to speak). He fixed all that and now RUSSIA! is an economic powerhouse. And he’s not really any more homicidal than our presidents. They like war and killing, Putin serms a bit more sane.

Now that there would be a REAL Socialist.

I was being facetious. Most people see RUSSIA! and Putin as being either Socialist or Communist and they are neither. Although the Communist Party is sure trying to make a come-back.

Russia's Communist party candidate Pavel Grudinin is proving too popular for the Kremlin's liking

Upper House approves ban on GMO production & imports in Russia
Published time: 30 Jun, 2016

Russia’s Federation Council has approved a bill introducing fines for producing GMO products in Russia or importing them from abroad, with the exception of genetically altered organisms and materials used for expertise and research.
...
According to official statistics, the share of GMO products in the Russian food industry has declined from 12 percent to just 0.01 percent over the past 10 years, with only 57 registered food products currently containing GMO. The law ordering obligatory state registration of GMO products that could come in contact with the environment will come into force in mid-2017.

Russian grain exports up 42% in 2018
Published time: 4 May, 2018

"As of the end of April, grain supplies increased by more than 42 percent," Medvedev said on Friday. Last year, Russia exported $21 billion worth of grain, which is bigger than revenues from arms sales, the prime minister noted.

Russian exports of agricultural products and foodstuffs have grown 16-fold since 2000. In 2016, Russia became the world leader in wheat exports. Since the early 2000s, the country’s share of the world wheat market has quadrupled, from four to 16 percent.
...
In the next six years, Russian exports of agricultural products will reach $45 billion, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture. Russia has also been seeking to become a global leader in exports of GMO-free good. GMO has been banned in Russia since 2016.
...

This is going to be an interesting test case about the safety of GMO food. Practically everything an American eats on a daily basis are GMO and/or laced with hormones or drugs. All these are banned in Russia. GMO feed for animals is banned. It will make for an interesting comparative study in the next decades.

There are reports that the testosterone levels in American men are now 50% lower than boomer men. Levels are going down at the rate of 1% per year. What is the cause? Lifestyle, food, environment? Are we turning into a nation of girly-men? Is the same thing happening in Russia?
