Dokumentary - The Great European Disaster Movie
oh well, I am still not over it. So, I ran into this and found it worth to look at, just for "a reality check", though the whole thing is fictional. Hmm, may be it's just hard to not be able anymore to believe in a "European Dream", I have long given up to believe in the "American Dream". I guess we all need to stop dreaming. What a pity. The realities are so sobering. Like Fuck that Shit kind of sobering.
Have "fun". It's for your entertainment. Get your popcorn. The subtitles are unfortunately very small type letters. Just don't know why they do that.
The Great European Disaster Movie
The Great European Disaster Movie
These are tough times for the European community. Our report analyses the situation -- with the help of politicians, journalists, and expert analysts. We present five stories from five different European countries that outline Europe's current "identity crisis" -- a crisis that could eventually contribute to the end of the "European Dream." Europeans are concerned about problems that include the on-going economic crisis, and the rise of nationalism. We examine the origins of these problems -- and present a fictional account of what might happen if the EU broke up and abandoned its currency. In one scene, a passenger jet flies over a newly-divided Europe. Among the passengers is an eight-year-old girl, headed for Berlin. An archaeologist sitting next to her explains what the E-U was, and what happened to the continent after it fell apart. Our film uses interviews, archive footage, and animation sequences to portray a Europe that we believe is still worth fighting for.

Thoroughly depressing
And in my opinion too pessimistic by far at this point in time. People forget that the British have always been dragged kicking and screaming to the European table, guarding their own currency and special status. To say that Brexit is the model for all the other countries in the EU is IMO way too premature.
The troubles the European economy faces are worldwide and are the direct result of neoliberal elites whose political leaders have betrayed their constituencies to the benefit of the 1%. The film makes graphic use of massive demonstrations yet misses the point that they are a coming together of the people in their aspirations. Even the right wing groups like the French FN and Marine Le Pen are fighting the neoliberal economic policies despite their fascist components. It talks about the Spanish housing crisis, but makes no mention of Podemos which is poised to score an enormous electoral victory against these forces.
Certainly there is much truth to what they say about the lack of democracy but I see signs of hope, and am not ready to accept the fact that we or the Europeans are defeated. The people United shall never be defeated. Never give up.

Also depressing.
Now I know (hear) European dog whistles. Some souls have to turn that ship, too.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Is it just me and my #@%! phone?
After numerous attempts, I still can't get this video to play. It repeatedly hangs up trying to load then kicks me back to the original page.
Is it working for others on more powerful, better connected devices?

Dancingrabbit, I think it's your #@%! phone:)
My #@%! phone is playing it with no problems. Try WiFi? Or a reboot? Or, if on WiFi, reboot the router?
If had the time, I'd finish watching it, but I'm getting ready to take my brother for pho in exchange for being the licensed driver in the vehicle while my teen son makes his first drive on a Houston freeway. My nerves just couldn't take it!
I'll watch it later, because I love documentaries.
