Democratic establishment have already decided how to thwart progressives
The progressive insurgency has scored some big victories this year, but if you think the Dems have learned anything, I have a bridge for sale.
Crowley, who, like Capuano, is a 20-year veteran of Capitol Hill, cautioned against drawing too many correlations between the two primary contests, saying the outcome of both races was largely a function of changing demographics.
Yep, voters don't care about policy. They are too stupid to care, I guess.
Which is why the Dems are already looking past the November election, and are planning how to most effectively kill the progressive agenda after they win the House.
House Democrats implicitly acknowledge the potential divide, with the DCCC this week launching a series of ads and attacks on health care. Noticeably, they focused mostly on Republican votes that would strip existing protections for policy holders with existing health problems — the ads avoid any mention of single-payer proposals or even a public option.Likewise, Pelosi has begun unveiling her strategy for a Democratic majority. And while it's focused generally on helping working- and middle-class households, it's decidedly not the wish list of the grassroots left.
Defeating a pro-working class agenda is the Dems first priority. It's much more important than winning elections.
But if you think the Dems will do this exclusively through setting the agenda, you would be mistaken. Pelosi knows how to look unable to pass helpful laws with surrendering important items beforehand.
In the first outline of the legislative agenda House Democrats would pursue if they take the majority in November, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has made the public a big promise, vowing to handcuff her party’s progressive ambitions, including in the event that a Democratic president succeeds Donald Trump, by resurrecting the “pay-go” rule that mandates all new spending is offset with budget cuts or tax increases.Along the way, she is playing into the hands of Republican strategists eager to warn voters that Democrats’ top priority is raising taxes.
Forcing budget offsets for every piece of legislation would make it more difficult for Democrats to pass a host of liberal agenda items, from “Medicare for All” to tuition-free public college. It continues a trend of Democrats caring far more about deficits than Republicans, constraining the activist impulses of liberal policymakers while giving conservatives free rein to blow giant holes in the tax code.
It's not just Obama that conceded every advantage before the fight even began.

Tried to vote today
Yes, you read that correctly...I "tried". As they say, if voting made a difference, they wouldn't allow you to do it. Live in Delaware, but haven't for very long. I am registered as an Independent. Just found out I would have had to change my party "affiliation" last May in order to vote. Don't wanna change my "affiliation", which is why I am an Independent! Anyway, tried to "vote" at my polling station and before I even opened the doors to station, I read a big sign that said, ONLY those registered as a Democrat or Republican may vote. What could I do? I went home. My Independent vote was disenfranchised. I was really hoping I could make a difference and give Mr. Carper his walking papers. Both parties know Independents want to change things, and this is the very point of why ONLY those affiliated with these two parties may vote.

I've read on the GOS
that only Republicans suppress the vote.
They wouldn't have lied to us, amirite?
The Ultimate Solution for Increasing Voter Turnout
Forget DNC Reforms, same-day registration, voter ID laws, etc. This is how you eliminate voter apathy.
A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma
It's no big deal being affiliated with a party

Agree, and the Only
reason I remain
registered in the Dim party. To vote in the Primary.
Period.

I live in one of the reddest counties in the country,
Sometimes you have to just do what you have to do. I won't be disenfranchised for some stupid label. The primary IS the election around here.
Despite labels, I'm hard left, and have always been so... your voter card won't change that.
"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."
A few off the top of head thoughts:
I am not really feeling very sorry for Capuano. He did endorse Shillary, maybe now he understands how foolish that was. So also did Pressley, so I can't help wondering if it mightened have helped him to have endorsed Sanders in 2016. I am not upset to see that Hillary-backing can be a kiss of death, it needs to be.
Pressley looks to be a fantastic candidate, but I wish we knew more about her. I gather voters are being asked to: trust me, please, because of my great looks, inspiring personal story and Obama like cool (she is never shrill, notice) and never mind who is backing me.
Someone, I think it may be Senator Sanders, has finally managed to make the ID politics contingent understand that Medicare For All is a necessity if they are to have any hope of appealing to lower income and status whites. Very little infuriates the working poor more than the fact that others can qualify for Govt. sponsored health care when we (the WP) can't and can't afford to pay for private insurance.

The congress two step dance
Here Comes Tax Scam 2.0: As Worker Wages Fall and Corporate Profits Soar, GOP Readies $600 Billion Tax Giveaway for the Rich
The republicans say that after they cut taxes for the 1% that they find that there isn't enough money left for the peons so they have to cut social programs.
Then when the dems have the majority they never roll back the hideous tax cuts or any of the other legislation the repubs forced through, but instead go the route of 'pay go'.
How so many dimwits can't see through the theater that congress puts on is beyond me. They are still saying that it's imperative that the dems take back congress to stop the slide.
Yeah we thought that was what they were going to do in 2006 and 2009 instead we got more of the same and then some.
Can the GOP use reconciliation again to do this?
Comment from the article:
Yes, more tax cuts to starve the government and make a stronger claim for passing the R’s coveted Balanced Budget Amendment. Or, as Pelosi calls it, the kinder, gentler Pay-Go better deal. Nancy’s at least considerate enough to apply some lotion first.
I think it's interesting
that they claim that he lost because of "changing demographics". Does that mean that the party of Identity Politics is blaming "ignorant minorities" for their loss or that a massive influx of rednecked racist bigots moved into the district, registered as Democrats, and voted for a progressive woman?
On to Biden since 1973
Here in NY we like primaries so much we do them at least twice.
The federal primary was in June, ordered by a judge so service members overseas could return absentee ballots that probably won't be counted anyway.
Then we have a state primary this month. To vote in any of these you need to be registered in a party sometime last year IIRC. And the state primary this year falls on Rosh Hashanah, so it will be on a Thursday instead of the Tuesday...

Good thing
The first Tuesday of September was the day after Labor Day. The second Tuesday is September 11th, and this year Rosh Hashanah...still strange timing, and they could have had just one primary instead of wasting millions of dollars to have two...

bing!! and... "Forcing budget
offsets for every piece of legislation... " "Budget Offsets." Otherwise known as the tried and true, "How Are You Librul Progressive Fucks Going to PAY For It??"
huh? the tooth fairy??
Which of course is RW horse$h!t, regardless who spews it.
becuz, indeed it IS the virtual tooth fairy that pays for it, just like it recently paid for the $700 Billion "Defense Spending" bill. Funny how 'they' never asked 'them' the question, "how are you War Hawks going to pay for it??' Funny that question was never asked. But some "guvmint program to help the 99% ??" The first thing out of their mouths (after "that's Socialism!") is, "how are you Librul fucks going to PAY for it??" As if there is some Guvmint cookie jar somewhere with a finite number of Tax Dollars in it - none of it earmarked for the 99%.
MMT ("modern monetary theory" or "magic money" as some call it) is the answer to that RW horse$h!t, "how ya gonna PAY for it??"
Becuz until Libruls and progressives learn, know and embrace MMT Nancy Pelosi and the other Dim party fucks - to say nothing of the Repubs - will Continue to whip out the "Budget Offsets" card all day long and deep into the night. "Gotta balance your Librul Spending with some Budget Offset. Maybe Social Security."
You sure you Want that (pony)??
Steve from Real Progressives gets MMT...
