Hillary Clinton: Too Much of a Clinton Democrat?
Kos on Clinton in 2006 in the Washington Post:
Hillary Clinton: Too Much of a Clinton Democrat?
By Markos Moulitsas
Sunday, May 7, 2006SNIP
Hillary Clinton leads her Democratic rivals in the polls and in fundraising. Unfortunately, however, the New York senator is part of a failed Democratic Party establishment -- led by her husband -- that enabled the George W. Bush presidency and the Republican majorities, and all the havoc they have wreaked at home and abroad.
SNIP
And therein lie Hillary Clinton's biggest problems. She epitomizes the "insider" label of the early crowd of 2008 Democratic contenders. She's part of the Clinton machine that decimated the national Democratic Party. And she remains surrounded by many of the old consultants who counsel meekness and caution. James Carville, the famed longtime adviser to the Clintons, told Newsweek last week, "The American people are going to be ready for an era of realism. They've seen the consequences of having too many 'big ideas.' "
SNIP
Yet staying away from big ideas seems to come naturally to Hillary Clinton. Perhaps first lady Clinton was so scarred by her failed health-care reform in the early 1990s that now Sen. Clinton shows no proclivity for real leadership as a lawmaker.
Afraid to offend, she has limited her policy proposals to minor, symbolic issues -- such as co-sponsoring legislation to ban flag burning. She doesn't have a single memorable policy or legislative accomplishment to her name. Meanwhile, she remains behind the curve or downright incoherent on pressing issues such as the war in Iraq.
On the war, Clinton's recent "I disagree with those who believe we should pull out, and I disagree with those who believe we should stay without end" seems little different from Kerry's famous "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it" line. The last thing we need is yet another Democrat afraid to stand on principle.
Emphasis added.
Well, there you have it, folks. “The last thing we need is yet another Democrat afraid to stand on principle.”
Right on, Markos (of 2006). What happened to you, dude?

Hey everybody.
OPOL are you sure you want to be Dr. Nick?

What are you trying to say, Cass?
Well you said "hey everybody"
I guess it was close enough to Dr. Nick for me.
“When there's no fight over programme, the election becomes a casting exercise. Trump's win is the unstoppable consequence of this situation.” - Jean-Luc Melanchon
Hey cousin, what's buzzin?
Thanks for pointing out that little prick's inauthentic evolution from gatecrasher to Hillbought. Because Sunday just woudn't be Sunday without it.
Good morning!
Hope you are doing well --
Her one shining moment for me
was when she went after healthcare as 1st lady. I thought, wow, here's a 1st lady who really is digging into policy and taking steps forward to show that a 1st lady isn't just a pretty face, or a good dresser! I had a ton of respect for her at that moment in time. But then it all just went away... and so did that woman.
Except we now know she turned down
any chance of making single payer the plan when it was pitched to her by two prominent physicians, even though she admitted the two had made a convincing case for Medicare for all. So any modicum of respect I had for her over her health care reform efforts (which she mishandled badly, btw) has long since vanished.
"You can't just leave those who created the problem in charge of the solution."---Tyree Scott
How disgusting is that?
Pretty damned disgusting, I would say.
And we were also introduced to her penchant for
secrecy as she tried to keep the activities of the Health Care Task Force confined behind closed doors and was actually sued for violating the Federal Advisory Committee Act which required a measure of openness. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
" “Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” FDR "
Hey, I was just out of high school
by a few years and healthcare was NOT one of my issues back then lol! I just thought it was great she was trying to spearhead it.
I thought it weird at the time
that Bill Clinton turned this highly charged policy proposal over to his wife, who had never served in any political office, never been elected to a legislature and worked with colleagues to get bills passed, etc. And then when her plan came out after months of secrecy it was inordinately complex and obscurantist. It was easy to mock and hard to defend. If you can't find a way to sell the public and fellow politicians, whose support and votes you need, respectively, on your bill, you will fail. It was a display of utter incompetence on her part, and on Bill's part. After that she was never given a high profile position regarding policy proposals (though behind the scenes I have no doubt she was the power behind the throne on which Bill sat, especially as it came to political decisions).
"You can't just leave those who created the problem in charge of the solution."---Tyree Scott
Mishandled on purpose?
Sometimes I wonder if she and Bill put up a brave front so they could get credit for trying, if it wasn't for those meddling Republicans (and Scooby-Doo). It was all part of burnishing the resume, with no real interest in providing a better system for Americans.
Just a thought...
Welcome to the TRUE progressive site, OPOL --
When Cicero had finished speaking, the people said “How well he spoke”.
When Demosthenes had finished speaking, the people said “Let us march”.
That was eons ago
She's evolved since then, or maybe I should say Markos has, though the truth is that is likely no true. He has always written and posted content that he thinks will get him the most benefits. In 2005 he needed clicks and members to sell ads, etc.. Now, I don't know what benefits he has been promised or expects for turning his site into a cesspit of Third Way, I'm with Her Bullshit, but I'm sure he's hoping for something for being the proper toady.
"You can't just leave those who created the problem in charge of the solution."---Tyree Scott
He's a complete sell-out and hypocrite...
if you ask me.
It's hard to be self-reflective
...when your life centers on a creation of your own design, or even note how you've personally changed over time. Back in the Crashing the Gates phase, Markos was building on what he genuinely perceived to be a need in Amerikan Politiks. All of a sudden the sheer number of people who agreed enough with him to park themselves under his wing gifted him with some power in the Big Arena. He didn't do so well as a go-to pundit on the MSM forever-shows, so they quit calling on him to weigh in. This taught him in no uncertain terms that once you're inside those gates, the designated task is to guard them against gate-crashers.
So that's what he's become. He sees it as entirely reasonable now that he's an innie instead of an outie. The alpha amoeba swallowed him right up, has not deigned to spit him out yet. The more concerning (to me) side-effect of that is his presumed ability to count me as some kind of parasitical hanger-on he can magically deliver to the establishment for the purpose of cementing his own subordinate role as support "bundler."
We can see that as selling out and being hypocritical, but he's never likely to see it that way. It all probably makes perfect sense to him, and from "a certain point of view" (his) that's taking a noble stand. There is no definitive "it is this, not that" to be made of what has happened, there is only our perception of what went wrong and what WE will do about that. DKos is now a good source for the establishment lines of attack against We the People, so I'll keep it in my bookmarks as a tool. I sincerely doubt he gives a shit whether or not I personally consider him and his website to be mere tools. S'okay. He has no power to sell my vote to anybody for anything.
Life is absurd.
With all due respect
he's always been a lying asshole.

There's still hope!
Interesting how 12 years changes one's perspective. That's one of the many things that makes Bernie so appealing...his constant support of people's issues
They (the Clinton's and the DNC) rigged the game, but so much so that anyone who looks can see. The super-delegates are mostly self-serving politicians (those that are not lobbyists) Will they come around? If they see it in their interest.
Here's an optimistic view from the Huff and Puff
Superdelegates WILL Switch To Bernie. Here’s Why
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rob-kall/superdelegates-will-switc_b_10063...
We can hope!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
The thing is most of those super delegates don't care
They will make out all right no matter what happens.
If they lose office, they will go work as lobbyists, or find jobs with the Clinton Foundation, or some other wonky neoliberal think tank.
Add their fear of crossing the Clintons with those who are true believers and there's no way they flip to Bernie. She gets indicted, or the FBI leaks what they know in the event of a non-indictment, they will make sure neither Hills or Bernie win on the first ballot so they can fly Biden in for the win.
"You can't just leave those who created the problem in charge of the solution."---Tyree Scott
Disagree on Biden
I still don't think they'll risk it. Sure, there's precedent, but they got their asses handed to them when they did it before.
The problem is, they still aren't gonna let Bernie in if they can possibly stop him. But they may run out of ways to try before they all get to Cali. To me, if the hue and cry and noise of this past week still hasn't taken Sanders down, nothing is going to.
100 Thumbs up for this !
"To me, if the hue and cry and noise of this past week still hasn't taken Sanders down, nothing is going to."
Thank you.
I have seen nothing but Kitchen Sinks and Monkey stuff over at TOP for more than a week,
many of the "People"commenting have been on TOP for about a week or two only.
Spot On.

Kos
is like a beagle on the trail of a rabbit. The beagle smells the rabbit and chases it. Kos smells money and chases it. He doesn't give one rats ass about who should be the dem candidate. There was just more money to be had endorsing clinton. He helped write a book at a time of intense dissatisfaction in the country hoping to make a mint. He is a political prostitute.
Bernie or Bust...
I keep thinking of jack rabbits.
Driving country roads at night there is the inevitable jack rabbit running the road right in front of you. Just as the rabbit is about to go into the ditch you flash high beams. The rabbit changes direction and keeps running in front of you. As he's ready to go into the opposite ditch, you flash the lights again, whereupon the rabbit again changes directions. People just keep flashing lights at Markos.
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
Oh, I think he cares
Bernie is dangerous for him and many of his fellow wealthy folk -- while Markos isn't in the 1% his net worth is probably up there, what with book royalties, selling SB Nation and other transactions.
It wasn't until after 2006 that Clinton became a
verifiable mass murdering war criminal so the little CIA dude didn't have all the information necessary at that point to quantify his findings. After she murdered a couple hundred thousand and displaced millions along with the Democratic party President Obama all the conservadems, particularly the sycophants like Moulitas became much more comfortable with a Clinton presidency.
I had to read the comments
to your diary on Kos.
What a joke. They are actually defending Kos.
At least one poster condescendingly threw up the math for the primary, yet the HRC supporters completely disregard the math related to declining party membership and the growth of independents.
These people truly believe that the party is a winner, when the evidence indicates the opposite (declining membership, the republican dominance in elective offices, etc.)
dfarrah
I did the same
What got me was the volume of commenters with tenures of a couple of months or less -- all singing harmonies to the same song. What I also noticed was that these relative noobs had posted hundreds of comments, some in only days.
Nothing to see here. Has nothing to do with K and his site "management". Just move along, NOW!

Hee he....
Putting Kos' book at the tippy top is pure genius. I don't know if I want to hug you for being there or call the fire department to rescue you. I went over to rec. and tip, but I can't bear to stick around. Scanning comments, the usual jerks are on display. I will FB and Tweet your diary from here - not there.

I'm not sticking around much myself.
I can only bear swimming in a cesspool for so long.

Have you been banned yet?
Not yet.
Though he did time me out for a week for this:
The OPOL Report - – The Birdie Sanders edition
Kos is Ozymandias, King of Kings
I met a traveler from Kos Land,
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone,
Stand in the desert of the front page. . . Near them, on the cybersand,
Half sunk, the shattered visage of Kos lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well his hypocrisy read,
#I'mWithHer is stamped on these lifeless things,
By the hand that mocks us, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Kos, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye Sanders people, and despair!'
But nothing will remain of Kos Land. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands will stretch far away.
I feel like I should get CEU credits
in Literature for reading this post...

Welcome, OPOL!
I'd been hitting TOP to rec you most days, but had to stop. The entire site got too toxic for me; it was beginning to effect my offline attitude. This is not only a nice respite from the day now, but it looks as tho it might be a place to contemplate what comes after, as well...
I understand.
I can barely stand it myself. The decline of top, which had such promise, has been painful to watch. Kos totally blew a golden opportunity to help change the world. So now it's up to us.
Whatever happened to Jerome Armstrong, Reg?
The earth is a multibillion-year-old sphere.
The Nazis killed millions of Jews.
On 9/11/01 a Boeing 757 (AA77) flew into the Pentagon.
AGCC is happening.
If you cannot accept these facts, I cannot fake an interest in any of your opinions.
Not a clue.
kos has exchanged his once progressive principles
for a chance to "cash out" on the sale of his DNC-makeover, Virtual Soapbox.
Too bad for him, in the process "cleaning out the Barn"
he turned his volunteer, creative, synergistic platform for change,
into a pit of hissing Vipers.
So much for that "inevitable" rise of pragmatism ...
may it collapse on itself, due to its own apathetic, cynical, forever-compromising,
Weight.
I question that he was ever very 'progressive.'
The first thing I heard about him was that he hated hippies and was against protesting or demonstrating. I wondered then what was wrong with him. So I started posting all these diaries singing the praises of the hippies and pointing out the great debt we owed them and how foolish we were to ignore their wisdom, etc. They did their damnedest to run me off. I still enjoy pushing back against all that bullshit, just sad that some people will never learn.
I'm glad to see you
...with the choir here at c99!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Guess he figures MLK should have STFU
and just waited his turn.
Protests have been one of the only tools available to the common man (and woman), from the strikes of the early days of the union movement to the suffragettes demanding the right to vote to Civil Rights marchers of the 1950s and 1960s to the anti-Vietnam war protests...I could probably go on ad infinitum.
When the system doesn't work for you, you have to get out in the streets and make a huge stink about it.
Dear OPOL
There is a stunning photo of you that I saw a long time ago. It was taken at some Kossack function or Netroots thing. But it was of you and you were scrunched down, possibly on your heels and Markos was slumped back in a chair. He had a look of disdain on his face and your face was radiant.
I don't know that photo is but if a photo could speak, that one said a few things to me. But they weren't new things to me.
Take care. I truly do think you are a wonderful person and I so want to meet you one day.
"Love One Another" ~ George Harrison
Here it is.
Did Kos respond to it?
I bet not. He is such a little fucking punk.
I don't know.
I had to quit reading comments for my blood pressure.
Thanks for coming over OPOL ~
OPOL-
Peace and Aloha to you.
Thanks for coming over !
I go to TOP to tip and rec BNR, your posts, and Meteor Blades...gjohnsit,Bill Moyers, and a few others..
basically, I cannot wade too deep in the posts anymore...I need to keep my blood pressure down.
You have been a beacon of light in a sea of coming darkness on TOP.
