Ed Rendell: Bernie supporters "have to behave and not cause trouble" when he loses.

Link: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/dem-primaries/279136-democratic-nati...

As if you're not disgusted enough with the Democratic Party, the weasel Ed Rendell just doubled-down on pissing off half of their voting base:

“I think it’s gonna be a great convention, but of course the key to it is the Sanders people. Bernie’s gonna have his name placed in nomination; we’re gonna have a roll call; there’s gonna be a demonstration in support of Bernie; he’s gonna lose the roll call,” he said. “His supporters have to behave and not cause trouble. And I think they will, and I think Sen. Sanders will send them a strong message.”

They have gone off the rails. Bernie's ripping off the mask of the entire party as sell-out 1%ers has driven them to exceptional stupidity and arrogance.

I am done with EVERY Democrat that has endorsed Hillary, and I am done with the party. They have chosen their side, and I have chosen mine. Screw them.

Go as far as you can, Bernie. Go Independent if you lose this. We may as well pull the band-aid off quickly; the political system is ruined beyond redemption. Let's start anew.

is hardly the person to be lecturing people on how to behave.

In 2003, Ed Rendell came into the Governor's mansion with big plans to boost classroom education spending. And through his two terms in office, neither he nor the legislature made funding state pensions a priority.

They made their required payments, but only by passing laws that artificially lowered the rate.

In reality, based on actuarial need, the state continually hasn't kicked in enough money to cover its growing debt.

And if you're looking for the single biggest reason for the dire straits the state currently faces, this is it: "You can't operate a pension plan like the payments are optional," said Steve Herzenberg, executive director of the Keystone Research Center, a progressive-minded Harrisburg think-tank.

"They're not. And we acted like they were optional for 12 years, giving corporations tax cuts, funding education more generously," he said. "So if you don't pay your credit card, at some point your bill comes due."

Also this, from Ballotpedia:

With two weeks left in his term, Rendell topped the $2 billion mark in taxpayer funds distributed through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

The money comes through state bond issues, so taxpayers will ultimately offer nearly $3 billion to pay off the debt over the next 22 to 30 years.

RACP funds require a matching amount from project developers, which are frequently taxpayer-funded bond issues from lower levels of government.

In early December 2010, Rendell committed to 19 projects in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County for $84 million. At the same time, Warren and Erie counties took in $45 million the governor claimed would leverage $68 million in additional private funding in the state's northwestern corner.

Later in December 2010, Rendell pushed about $100 million into the stockings of businesses and developers in the Philadelphia region, bringing RACP funding to at least $2.11 billion between 2003 and 2010.

A pay to play politician as corrupt as they come.

What a big mouth--he's telling you what they intend to do. Presumably, this will be done no matter how many delegates Sanders has.

This pitiful excuse of a Political Party needs to stop pretending and acting all innocent about it--it is absolutely crystal-clear. These people that call themselves The Democratic Party of the United States no longer give a damn about the will of American voters on THE ACTUAL LEFT who have long been loyal to what USED TO BE KNOWN AS The Working Man's Party.

No more. They are a fraud. A sham. A con. A grift. They better convince a whole metric fuckton of "Moderate Republicans" to vote for that bitch, because they're going to need every stinking one of them. They are going to be deserted in droves by actual Democrats and indies if they do what Rendell stated here for the record.

Well let me just say, "Message Received."

Fall in line indeed.

These bastards are in for one hell of a surprise in November if the Nominate Hillary.

Trump will Destroy her on Pay to play, Super-Pacs,Trade, Foundation money for arms, etc, etc....

If that comes to pass we are gonna have to work our asses off to have a new party ready for 2018.

is if he lays down. He's tried being over-the-top racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., and people ate it up. But they love him--and all the other candidates on the Right have fallen away. At this point, I don't think Trump can go that much higher "over the top" without risking insurrection straight up.

So there has to be a dive. I'm seriously still looking for that to happen. Thing is, so are a lot of others who were suspicious of his motives from the git-to, I am hardly alone in my assessment that this was cooked up by Mr. & Mrs Grifter and The Donald over way too many martinis one night...

He could demolish Hillary before the convention with a 47% GS transcript, and then lose the general to Bernie, thus saving face and be good to go on signing a gazillion dollar reality show contract that would be a much better fit (and he knows it).

(AP News--radio headlines--has been reporting on this for two days, now.)

Admittedly, at one time, I wondered if Trump and the Grifters cooked up his candidacy.

But, if Trump continues to beat up WJC, regarding his infidelities--and he is ramping it up, big time--calling FSC out for not only enabling him, but for her harassing and bullying conduct toward the various women he philandered with--I'll find it difficult to believe that they are in on this, together.

Heck, Trump could makes things so uncomfortable for the Grifters, that they'll have to take ol' Bill off the rubber chicken circuit, and the campaign trail.

Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.

He's already talking about how badly the D Party has treated Bernie. The media won't say it, but Trump will. That's why he'll win if she's the nominee - it may turn out that he's the truth-teller in the general. People do finally notice those things. And apparently the Democratic Establishment is actually more corrupt than the Republican. Wow. Not what I expected.

two Right-wing parties: one "moderate" Right, and the other bat-shit crazy looney tunes Right.

What are Left-leaning Americans to do, given that US political "practice" (not the Constitution) as well as theory (Majority/Minority) requires de facto a 2, and only 2-party system?

Having ordinary Americans, not to mention the political elite, become accustomed to a multi-party system will be extremely difficult. Parliamentary systems of Government can handle this quite easily; the American "republican" system, entrenched for almost 200 years, not so much. Congress will find it hard to function (even more so than now), for example: how would it deal with no Party having a Majority? The Presidency would be even more complicated (if no candidate gets a Majority of EC votes, then what?)

So the Question remains: given two Right-leaning Parties, what's next?

The Democratic Party has been "moderate-right" since the days of Jimmy Carter. It's just that gradually they've become less and less moderate and more and more right, until now they're full-on Conservative Right Wing.

There isn't even a centrist party in America any longer.

For folks considering a third [or fourth?] party run, the good news is that the NEW congress will decide the winner:

http://congressionalresearch.com/RL32695/document.php?study=Election+of+...

That means, of course, if Bernie keeps on running, we'll have to retake the House.

The House per se has decided NO Presidential races since 1824. It is *extremely* unlikely to want that responsibility now.

In 1876 the House ducked its responsibility by creating a panel - five House members, five Senate members, five Supreme Court judges - to evaluate dual sets of returns from three states. The decision, along strictly party lines, took the election away from Samuel Tilden and gave it to Rutherford B. Hayes. (This is where the Supreme Court got its nose under the tent.)

After 1876 and 2000 the "precedent" is that the Supreme Court - and not the House - decides elections.

If it's kicked to SCOTUS, and they are deadlocked in a 4-4 tie, provoking the specter of an unprecedented constitutional crisis, it would almost certainly be the House that decides. McConnell and Ryan are banking on the odds of the Dems taking the House in 2016 not being very good. Yet another reason why McConnell will let the Senate vote on Garland over his dead body. (Some might say that his body died a long time ago, but that's another discussion...)

Thanks.

I noticed it said that the Contingent process begins with the THREE candidates who received the most electoral votes. Not 'the two', but the THREE.

This factoid might be used creatively if the Partie's two presumed candidates reach a draw.

And this might be a stretch, but the fact that this Constitutional provision requires three candidates to resolve a tie might be used to argue that any system that provides voters with only two candidates is anti-constitutional.

Just a thought.

for picking the candidate. But I could see them trying to maneuver it into the House, since SCOTUS is short one justice.

More incentive to work downticket, just in case, IMO. The House deciding it at this point is a serious long-shot, particularly since we're not done with the primaries yet.

I have a very close friend who is a republican. He constantly rails about how establishment republicans are sell outs, just like dems, and the only true conservative in all of government is Cruz.
I have resisted railing about establishment dems being sell outs, being dinos, with only Bernie (Merkley and Warren) being REAL Dems because I didn't want to hear myself sound for all the world like a Tea Bagger.
Well, I guess I am over it. I am not a democrat as the party exists right now. I want a new, liberal party. I want Bernie (Merkley and Warren) to lead it.
Rendell can kiss my ass for all intents and purposes, and the democratic party can kiss my ass good bye.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

this was wishful thinking. An Indie winning the White House. With the hatred of Trump on the right, where republicans are openly talking of supporting clinton and clinton herself about as popular as a cold sore in a kissing booth, this would leave the door wide open. Could Bernie win over 40% of democrats and 30% of repubs? Could he win 50% of the indies? No doubt he could get people to the polls. Clinton is toast whether Bernie runs or not IMO...

The Democratic Party establishment has reason to be concerned about what might happen if they steal the nomination from Bernie. Aside from what will be going on inside, there might be a million-person march going on outside. Lots of people.

HOWEVER, making that statement now, while the primaries are still going on, is a good example of arrogance and entitlement. And the tone is downright condenscending.

Maybe we'll consider being nice if they adjust their tone. Smile

And the tone is downright condenscending.

"Condescending" is the only tone they've used with us for the last few decades! They just couched it in "kinder, gentler" terms prior to the last few years. No reason to do that now... what with the take over by the Third Way (New Democrat) faction completed.

But I find I'm feeling kind of liberated by this in-your-face attitude of theirs. It frees me to look at the Green Party and others with new eyes and an open mind.

There will always be a party that caters to the rich and powerful. They can carry whatever label they want. I think the Wall Street gang was actually fairly prescient by choosing to create the New Dem faction. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see where the Repubs "Southern Strategy" would end up! And we FDR liberals followed so easily with the carrots they strung out in front of us.

So, it is up to us to carry on FDR's legacy, while creating our own. We must either find a party whose mantle aligns closely with ours and who is willing to expand it to add our concerns. Or, we need to build our own party from scratch.

Remember, the democratic party actually started out as a party of the rich, slave-owning southerners. The republican party was the party of the people. Labels can and do change. And, just as the "Whigs" were once a legitimate political party, some can and will disappear as others arise.

Arise FDR liberals and progressives -- we need a platform on which to launch FDR's New, New Deal!

He's all hysterical because Bernie has called out the Dems who sold out to Wall Street, and he is one of them. He splutters "But I take contributions" from the usual suspects whenever he appears on television. Yeah, Ed, we know it. We STILL don't believe it has no effect. I'm so proud of the people who've thrown dollar bills at Hillary, who've shown up to protest her patrician ass, who are ready, at long last, to stand up to these Third Way Democrats.

And I'll be proud if the streets in Philadelphia are filled with good liberals who make it clear to the ruling class that we won't put up with this garbage anymore. With any luck, a funny thing is going to happen on the road to the coronation.

I wished I could have bought back in the early 2000. The previous owner worked at NASA Goddard space center and he had started to build a super strong bunker in his backyard. He died before he could finish. His wife didn't want the house. It was a good deal. But that bunker ... I couldn't believe it. I guess he knew what he was doing it for, working for NASA. Looked like you could survive a nuclear bomb explosion on Washington DC. Such thick walls, I guess radiation wouldn't have penetrated. One can still see the bunker, few people recognize it as what it was supposed to be. But the wife explained it to me.
