Open Thread - Friday, May 29, 2015

It's Friday!

I have to admit, I have been having difficulty knowing which day of the week I occupy. Leaving the work force is both liberating and disorienting.

Today is one of those special Fridays, the eagle flies today.

Unfortunately, I am not as young, or care free, as I once was.

But I still have what it takes.

What's happening this weekend?

Be careful out there. Make sure you know where the water came from before you drink it.

I need a vicarious good time. Anybody going to see live music? Anybody going to a graduation bash? A wedding? A pig pickin'? A keg in the kitchen party? How is the weekend shaping up?

Cheers!

We were supposed to attend my nephew Tad's graduation party. Tad's alright. He is my sister's son. His father passed when he was 4. Tad and his two sisters used to spend a month with me every summer.

My sister lives in SC and socializes with the bible thumpers. The home television runs continuously, there is no home stereo and she pays no mind to summer cultural events. I think the kids enjoyed coming to my house. There is always music playing, we rarely watch television and we will go to any free music. Over the years I have taken the kids to see Ziggy Marley, Buddy Guy, The Iguanas, Los Lobos, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Chuck Brown.

Unfortunately, we can not attend Tad's graduation. We have not solved the road trip paradigm. The bathroom remodel was completed middle of May and Sweetie's motorized wheel chair arrived around the same time. Car transfers and toileting are difficult and tricky. The electric wheel chair requires an adaptive van to facilitate driving the wheelchair onboard. Damn the adaptive vans are expensive, and quite stylish. Yesterday, I put a deposit on a van. I am suffering from buyer's anxiety, but the van will allow us to expand our range. I am planning a Pittsburgh road trip, so sweetie can visit her mom.

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -

I can understand the anxiety over the van purchase, but I am sure you will find the freedom worth it. I need to expand my horizons too, which is why I am so glad Smiley took my Mondays. I am trying to get rid of every excuse I use to keep me in my rut. I have seen the enemy, and the enemy is me. Sad

I have cut my Internet use by ~60%. The time goes to household chores, making sure I work out and playing a little guitar. All activities the reduce, rather than induce stress.

I still have head punch impulses whenever I see Rand, Marco, Billo, Rushbo, Huckster, Frothy, ...

Enjoy the R&R. I always liked to wake and bake, grab a cup of coffee and go for a morning walk.

to all that are doing scheduled Open Threads, it's obvious everyone is getting tired of them so for here on don't worry about doing them anymore. We'll just drop them from the itinerary. Thanks to all that have participated.

The open threads are not that big a deal. Especially if they are light, and less topical than a diary. It gives everyone a gathering place, for the day.

and just say that it also can be used to share anything beyond the diaries' subject and function additionally as an Open Thread.
Or the Open Thread could just be a one-liner, so that we know where to drop our daily "words". I love the boss, Tim.

I'd like to keep them going, but it seems like some folks are burning out. Let's use this thread to get an idea of where everyone that does a scheduled open thread stands. Please chime in if you do a scheduled OT, if you don't weigh in I'll take that as a negative.

and any stupid thought I just had bothering me. That's not a diary. If it's good enough for you, I write them by a dozen and schedule them accordingly. If that is just too much of a shame for an OT, I do not write a real diary OT and can't participate as a scheduled OT writer. I hope that clarifies my position.

IMHO, an Open Thread does not need any content other than its title. One thing the Open Thread does is it provides a placeholder for conversation that maybe does not warrant an entire diary. I am all for keeping the Open Thread system where those who are posting them feel zero pressure to provide content. Just my opinion and that of others here may vary.

fond of having a responsibility because I hate responsibilities, but I think they do some good around here.
Although not having pressure if I forget or don't feel good is a good thing.

to do the Wednesday Open Thread even if I do not provide any content every week. I think the issue of content is why people get burnt out. Not all of us are used to writing that much.

I whipped one out. Only took a few minutes, although mimi ended up posting one.

I can't whip something out like you can. Can't do music pieces etc. And my days are so uncontrollable for the next months that thinking about what to write about in an OT makes me all nervous. That's why I want to avoid that. I can commit to a regular one liners as I said above. It's good to have a placeholder OT no matter what it says inside the body every morning.

under those conditions, being one-liners, I can take over several days. I just can't martyr my mind about what to write.

to be clear, I have never put pressure on anyone to do any no more than one liners, if you felt pressure to do more, you put the pressure upon yourself.

that one wants to do a better job than a one liner, and so I did put pressure in my mind on myself. So, just give me the days of the week you need an OT (one-liner or otherwise whatever I have in my mind) and it will be my pleasure to do it. No problem.

the capabilities to post something over a mobile phone. I don't have that option yet and therefore am not constantly online here and my responding pattern to comments is often delayed and not immediate. Sorry for that. I guess I have to give in and get one of those "modern telephones" that sneaks up on me every second and stores the collected works of mimi for my the next century .... You know that I totally opposed to the internet, right? Smile

Just kidding.

just like before, if you can't make it for whatever reason, let me know ahead of time.

I like participating in OT, but I put a lot of pressure on myself to do a "good" job whatever that is. If they came easy to me like they seem to for others, I would take them all. I accept there is no minimum standard for an OT, unless it is mine.

So if you have 7 people to fill the slots, I would like to pass for now. If you don't have 7 people, I will keep mine and go to work on learning to accept them for what they are - no big deal just like you keep telling me. Maybe Mimi's 2 line OTs will help to give me the leeway I need.

Since it seems to be unanimous and everyone claims to be Spartacus, I guess we'll cancel the cancellation of the Open Threads. I miss-judged the will of most of you. Thanks for weighing in and thanks for the support. You guys and gals are the best.

Not that it makes any difference to Cuba. The U.S. is not off the Cuba terrorist list. Few talk about that.
This is like the Iran nuclear negotiations.
And a George Orwell, up is down, war is peace type of thing.

shall be a display of true Americana in Phoenix this evening, where armed, iliterate bikers are convening to draw cartoons of Muhammad outside a mosque. However, "we will not have food vendors at this event because we don't want this to turn into a carnival."

Perhaps Officer Peters, the poster boy for American law enforcement, who has killed seven people behind the badge, will motor over from nearby Scottsdale.

The government is mailing anthrax again. I like how they say this involved "no human error." Right. The anthrax mailed itself.

Bikers Posers assemble in Phoenix. A true 1%er would not participate. Their modus operandi is non-political and more organized crime. Meth, strippers, prostitutes, protection rackets and extortion, yes. Anti-Islam rally, couldn't care less.
