Friday Night Photos Bird Mix Edition

Happy Friday everyone. It's the end of the week. You know what that means. Time to put all the nuttyness going on in the world on hold. Got a photo you like. Post it. Got a meme you like. Post it. Got music you like. Post it. Got anything else you find of interest. Post it.

Got back from Oregon last night. It's going to take a few days to edit photos. I'll have them ready to post next Friday. In the mean time here are some birds from Santee Lakes I took a two weeks ago.

BTW

Obviously I am not a camera buff but the lens used by the woman in your first image seems like overkill for closeup shots.

@humphrey
A long lens allows you to get nice close-ups like my head shot of the wild turkey. Both shots of the turkey were shot with a 100-400 mm just beyond minimum working distance. The first shot at 125 mm and the head shot at 400 mm.

allows for distant shot to appear close but my comment was for the lens in the image seems to be out of place for actual closeups.

Sp!
Last night, a bald eagle flew around the front yard. Pretty rare, always exhilarating, never do we have a camera ready for one.
Hope your travel was easy and stress free.

Bald Eagles are rare in San Diego county but we do get one or two mating pairs in the north east area of the county most years.
Other than delayed flights both going and returning, the trip was excellent. Details and photos next Friday.

very annoying glitch when I read your diaries. I'm getting black rectangles, no visual images, just flickr with white icons and ID code numbers/letters. I am no cyber technie as you know. What should I do? I also follow otc and JtC, and I know he is the cyber man on here. This is the first diary series that brought me over to c99. I love the photos!!! Help!!! I hope you had a great OR visit, and I can get this solved so I can see the pics!! Thanks and Rec'd!! My desktop in a Mac Mini with a large Dell monitor.

@orlbucfan
Try a different browser, like FireFox or Edge.

@JtC JtC, I've have gotten all the pictures just now. THANK YOU AND Sp. I am and always been on FireFox. I live with a hi-tech genius who was very successful at both audio and video. So, I learned a little about 21st century hi-tech. I'm having a good day. My NFL yeam is winning at home, and it sounds like the pestilence (tRump) never showed up as was threatened. Repukes are having headaches here. Early voting starts tomorrow. Mail-in has already started and they get counted here. I had my ballot mailed to me, and will drop it off when Hubster goes to vote early. Again Sp, thanks so much for the help. My barfday is Tuesday and I sure hope it's peaceful. You all stay safe. Smile

I had a great time in Oregon. Trip details and photos next Friday.
I wish I could help you with your computer problem but I'm not much of a tech guy and I'm not a Mac user. The only thing I know about Apple products is they're all over priced. JtC's suggestion to try a different browser is a quick and easy way to see if that's where the problem is. Whatever the problem is, I hope you get it solved soon.

@Socialprogressive
you can buy a refurbished MacBook Pro for $200 at
Mac of all trades. If you don't need the latest edition,
it is a good starting point to wean off of MS windows
and all of their bugs. Apple has its own issues, but user
friendliness is far better with them IMO.

There's no denying Windows has problems, but like you say Mac has it's issues too. I started out with windows and it's what I'm comfortable with. If I ever switch away from Windows it would be to Linux.

Thanks for the recommendation. Because of the way my MacBook is operating I will probably be forced to look for one soon.

Very beautiful animals! A couple I'm not familiar with. Some of the pictures stir some old memories.

We have a few flocks of wild turkeys around here. Then we have some of these birds below which have become accustomed to seeing me. They see me a few times a week when I go for a walk. There was a third one, don't know what happened to it. Okay, they're sandhill cranes. Had to look it up. We were just calling them red headed cranes. We did have one or two at the old house as well.

I was surprised to see you have Sandhill Cranes in Fla. We only have them during the winter migration season and you have to drive a few hours east to the Salton Sea to find them. Hope those memories stirred up are good ones.

They look like very pedestrian birds ;). The fowl birds are familiar to me from earlier times, as they must be for you as well. The Cranes and other tall and graceful water birds are familiar to me from Florida.

Thanks for the interesting photo.

Thank you for the photos capturing the birds so well, and revealing how beautifully coloured, or patterned they can be. I like the photo of Avian Annie camouflaged in her surroundings, like a big bird with a long beak ; ).

These photos from Wildlife photographers are wonderful ...

Thanks for the link. Those are some really amazing photos. When I grow up I hope I can take photos that good. My two favs are the B&W of the animals at the watering hole and the macro of the Robber fly with dinner.

by the giraffes, and Zebras, and elephants. The composition is amazing and the use of infrared light magical. I also really loved the image of the stalks of Sunflowers and flock of birds.
