Qiansimen Bridge (千厮门大桥)
~

This remarkable city in southwestern China is home to 7.6 million souls. Located at the confluence of the
Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, it is about 1400 miles inland from the South China Sea. Built on hilly terrain, it
has a vibrant urban landscape to rival Hong Kong.

The city itself is about 900 years old and is an important commercial hub The cultural roots of the area
extend back about 4000 years. Ancient Buddhist Temples are a feature as well. Most famously is the
Luohan Temple. At about 1000 years old you can get your zen tuned up for a token offering.

On a discovery tour of spring rolls this AM. Never made them before,
but have always liked eating them. Was looking for dumpling dough
but found these wrappers at our local grocery. Therefore, here we go!

I like the fact that they can be baked instead of fried. You can use tofu instead of pork.
May make a variation on the dipping sauce? Peanut and Hoisin are alternatives.

Interesting how Zelensky authorized another
massive drone attack on Russia while on his way
to the NATO summit in Ankara, probably to beg for
more money and weapons. They should rename their
organization RUS/CHI/IR Battlegroup. Or maybe just
the Anti-BRICS coalition. The treaty concept is dead.

Oh, and trumpet didn't like the 'deal' he signed so cancelled
the so-called MOU with Iran. No surprise there.

The US is agreement incapable.

Iran is still in the midst of the funeral, and may hold off a heavy response. I predict hard hits on Israel this time as their assault on Lebanon continues (1st point of the MoU). Additionally, the shut down of Hormuz will cause global economic consequences.

China's cities are so much more advanced and ancient than those in the US. Good luck with the spring rolls, and thanks for the OT!

We have nothing comparable here in the US.
Stuck in some form of glory back in the 1900's.
Only developing warring processes. Does this
help the people here? Don't think so.

Thanks for swinging bye.

No doubt took some planning. We all know, I think, that China's central government makes 5 year plans, but do they make longer ones too? Out of curiosity, I googled this, and here's the answer I got:

China does not just make 5-year plans. While the well-known Five-Year Plans (FYPs) serve as the primary short-to-medium blueprints, the government also implements explicit long-term development visions spanning roughly 10, 15, and 75+ years.

The Five-Year Plans (FYPs)
Introduced in 1953, the FYPs are China's core framework for national economic and social development. The country operates on these short-term roadmaps, focusing on resource allocation, macroeconomic targets, and industrial development. The 15th Five-Year Plan maps out policy through 2030.

Long-Range Objectives
To maintain policy consistency across decades, the Chinese Communist Party weaves long-range goals into the FYP cycle:

Vision 2035: Introduced alongside recent FYPs, this 15-year framework outlines quantitative and qualitative targets, such as achieving "high-level self-reliance" in science and technology and elevating living standards.

The 2049 Centennial Goal: Often referred to as the second "Centenary Goal", this long-term vision spans nearly a century after the People's Republic of China was founded. It details the ultimate aim of developing into a fully modernized, globally influential socialist country by the nation's 100th anniversary.

A further question arises in my mind as to how detailed versus decentralized these are. For example, did that city have its own plan(s), or wre they subsumed within some larger geographic area's plan(s) or what?

The PRC claims that it's overriding goal iw the welfare and improved standard of living for its citizens. Judged by its accomplishments, we must conclude that such is in fact at least a primary goal.

Here we have no plan beyond the annual budget which may includ annual fiddling with longer term "projects". The goal and motive underlying all of them is best understood by looking at discretionary spending. So what we have is War-making, policing, at home and abroad, spying and population control, both citizens and foreign populations alike, accretion of power of all kinds, etc. Judged by results, an underlying principle is increasing the wealth of our corporations and the Epstein class. All consideration of the welfare of the citizenry at all lvels takes the form of finding ways to provide jobs so that those performing the work necessary for the enrichment of the corporations and Epstein class will be able to sustain life sufficiently to perform said work, but not more.

Quite a contrast

China seems to able to make achievable goals
for their country. We, on the other hand, only have
an indefinite goal of dominating the universe. An
unachievable goal by any measure. So, as it is, we
suffer the hubris of this once great nation.

out from under the Hawaiians and they’re considered great men, right? To really rub it in the locals’ faces, two leading public high schools in Honolulu are even named after them.

So what is people’s problem? Oh, I see, for some arcane reason, to the Western way of thinking, Greenlanders are fully human but Hawaiians aren’t, or something.

in Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide comedy sci-fi series.

Beeblebrox was well-suited for the office of galactic president, designed as it was to have no duties or functions other than drawing attention to oneself 24/7 — thereby creating constant distraction so that the various actors who actually keep things going could get on with their jobs unnoticed.

Unfortunately, as was also true of his recent predecessors, T. seems not up to his actual job as planetary quasi-CEO.
