Album of the Week 5-2-26
Afternoon folks!
Unsurprisingly, there's some blues here for you. Starting off is the bonus disc of a later release of Muddy "Mississippi" Waters Live with a whole bunch of material that was not in my vinyl rip of the original album. Following that is a compilation album of T-Bone Walker tunes and an album from a fine but lesser-known Texas blues guitarist in the T-Bone tradition, Long John Hunter. After that, it's on to a classic album from John Mayall's Blues Breakers in the Eric Clapton period followed by New Orleans Meters. We finish up with some rock and roll from British guitarist Chris Spedding who has likely performed as a session musician on or produced stuff you might have heard.

question. What and where are recordings of Muddy's band with the great (but nuts with anger issues) harmonica player, Little Walter? You're the PhD on Blues.
I'm more familiar with Rhythm and Blues. Fascinating program again, as usual. Rec'd!!

well, walter joined muddy's band in 1948 and left in 1952, but continued to record with muddy as a studio sideman through the 50's.
there are some early recordings he did on a small chicago label with muddy and sunnyland slim that are on an album (delmark) called "the blues world of little walter." there's a listing of the singles he cut with muddy (and others) in little walter's wikipedia discography. look for the section called "as accompanist."
i suspect that most, if not all of his recordings listed are available on youtube. if you can't find some tracks that you're interested in, let me know and i might be able to dig them up.

i think that album is my favorite album that eric clapton played on, though sometimes i vacillate between it and some of his cream stuff and the layla album - but this week at least, i think it's my favorite.
