Saturday Open Thread: Odds and Ends

Thursday was an interesting day of near disasters. Somehow, transferring my scheduled court appearances from the Jan-July schedule book one court hearing was lost in the weeds. Luckily, the day before, I accepted a lunch date with a client, and dressed accordingly. When the judge called to ask me if I was gonna come and get the adoption case done or not. "I will be there in a few minutes!" I did not have to rush home and change clothes. Adoption was done, but it involved a major glitch: Missing necessary documents. Original Petition for Termination of Parental Rights and for Adoption, the affidavits from the parents relinquishing their rights, were nowhere to be found in the court system. All that was in the file was the adoption evaluation done by a court approved psychologist.
Yet, I had records of the date those documents were filed, proof of acceptance, and proof the electronic filing system accepted my payment of filing fees. We figured out how to stamp my copies and get them accepted as Originals, and the adoption had a happy ending. 6 yr old twins, grandparents taking the reins, and the judge went out of his way to accommodate and suck up because he is facing a primary challenge. I'll take it.

Meanwhile, maybe some good news will pop up on our screens that people will not starve to death in Gaza, or that the Ukies either coup Zelenskye and end the war, or their Army surrenders, and the slaughter ends. Something's gotta give.

from a great band, until they caught the fatal disco virus and turned to mush before our very eyes.
Front year south of walkway to house is an eclectic collection of native plants and a certified wildlife habitat, north of said walk, not so much. accordingly we plan to build a 3 foot by 8 foot planter parallel to the sidewalk and fill it with flowers and herbs to be pollinator food. Meanwhile, big old redbud in same area is 2 conjoined trunks, one of which is possibly going to bring the other down, so I get to preempt that process a bit at a time, fun for all.
After months of checking every morning, the backyard yard cam finally had an encounter between the opossum who prowls said yard on a very regular and/or frequent basis and one of the feral gatos that are always roaming around. El gato kept his disatnce, but did not take evasive action, so all was well and non-confrontational. Should be a model for human behavior.
Farmers' market today, wife's week to cook, but, the way things fell out my tooth extraction will be wednesday, followed by some sort of "soft diet" for a period as yet to be determined, so we'll be looking for stuff that cooks into mush and maybe some soft crusted bread unlike the rustic quasi-batards we bake.

One day this past week, I sat on a patio chair to stare at the stars. I was joined briefly by a raccoon. Like, 2 feet away. I rank coons as the cutest unwanted pests on the list.

This was a very newsy, very amusing walking tour.
I love Tbilisi, Georgia. Would love to spend some time there. Alex Christoforou provides a very amusing take on the news, as usual. Although this time we're talking about Ukraine's forever deNAZIfication — and the capitulation and defeat of the deranged Neocon war mongers of the West. They need to return to their homelands and go bankrupt, be driven out of government, and be enshrined as pariahs for however long human history persists. Europe needs to embrace a complete turn over of their population, until all war memories have been neutralized.

There were underlying tensions between Armenia/Georgia/Russia then, but it is now heightened and openly expressed.
Many places I have been around the world are now having tensions with somebody, it seems.
It would take me a while to come up with a foreign trip to a peaceful country that has no tensions with another.

It was a pleasure to get the little girls adopted by their grandparents. G'Pa has a military benefit and a pension plan that will bring in enough $ for the children to guarantee their college education will not require a loan.

Pew is the other vote analyst besides Catalist
that most people consider pretty solid. They came out with thier 24 election results at the end of last month. Combining the two isn't very pretty.
Democrats continue to lose black, Hispanic, and Asian voters to the Republicans. One interesting statistic from Pew is naturalized citizens.

Waiting to see if Trump's frustration with Putin extends to offensive weapons. With Trump anything is possible, his advisors are no doubt frustrated that a little tinpot dictator is making all this trouble. At the rate Putin executes his own generals I'm wondering if he's trying to compete with the Ukes. Anti Zelenski demonstrations a reminder that in the free portion of Ukraine people can demonstrate.
