Friday Night Photos Mixed Nuts Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 03/28/2025 - 5:00pm
Welcome to Friday Night Photos everyone. Your once a week break from the daily madness of the crazy world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music, or whatever else you find of interest that helps you escape the madness.
Springtime in SoCal. Monday it was sunny and 85. It's slowly regressed through the week and today it's 60° and drizzling. I guess that's better than the heavy rain JtC is dealing with on his weekend getaway.
Got a mixed bag of images tonight. I entered the first two images in the camera club's monthly photo challenge. The subject was close-up/macro. The B&W got 1st place and the watch face tied for 2nd. That helped brighten an otherwise dull day.

Are #1 and #6 the same image?
What a difference that the color adds.
Hi, humphrey
Yes, #1 and #6 are the same image.

Elgin had an amazing tool precision which you captured.
The shimmering stones are also fantastic.
Thanks sp!

Hi, Q
All the inner workings of both watch's are truly amazing. The shimmering stones line the bottom of one of the fountains in Balboa Park.

Look at this beauty
I did a little research
I found out the Elgin watch I posted is a grade 305 and was manufactured in 1905. Total production for that model was 26,500. I tried looking up the watch you posted but couldn't read the serial number well enough to find that model.

Beautiful way to end the week!
Love the photos. In early days of our working with photography loved testing the limits of macro lens. Followed a fly around trying to get the perfect shot!
You put a lot of thought into your pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Life is what you make it, so make it something worthwhile.
This ain't no dress rehearsal!
Hi, jakkelbessie
I love doing macro. For the flower shot I used a 105mm macro lens and 3 extension tubes to get good and close, then shot 60 frames at f/20 to get as much depth of field as possible and stacked them all together for the final image.

A question

not meant as criticism.
How do you create the neon lighting on the
edges of objects in the diner shot? Reminds
me of a date once with Miss Peyote button.

An answer
My camera got into my stash of magic mushrooms. You turn your back for just one minute.
Actually, I used the neon glow filter in Photoshop.
Here's the original image without the filter.

Congratulations Social
I also loved seeing the beautifully softly focused flower in b&w, as well as the naturally glowing gold and black watch face, with its playful mechanical design. What era is it from? I've been thinking a lot this week about b&w photography, which motivated me to translate a purple water lily into a monochrome. Clearly, as your watch face indicates, colour and design can be equally expressive. Thank you for the variation in your mages.
Enjoy the weekend all
Hi, janis
Beautiful shot of the water lily. As you've demonstrated, with the proper contrast a B&W can be just as evocative as a color image.
The watch belonged to another camera club member so I don't know any of it's history or how old it is.

funny coincidence
People were talking about Tears For Fears on an MMORPG I play just earlier today; I mean, it was a blitz couple of remarks and they were talking about music in general at the time, but considering that band doesn't come up that often anymore....
In the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is declared mentally ill for describing colors.
Yes Virginia, there is a Global Banking Conspiracy!
Hi, Moonbat
I must admit I don't know what MMORPG is. I'm going to guess some sort of role playing game.

MMO = “Massively Multiplayer, Online” …
RPG = just as you said.
Great photos! Each one more engaging than the next!

That B & W photo deserved its
first place win with your camera club, Sp. I think it's better than the colored one. All the photos are great, gang.
Political junkies are watching the 2 special elections here. Voting ends Tuesday. One of the seats, D-Weil vs. R-Fine has a very good chance of flipping. I live near that district and Weil has raised more $$. The other one is in the Panhandle which is prime MAGA/ Bible Belt stupidity territory. If it flips, tRump and FarRightWingnuts better start worrying. Not holding my breath cos I've lived here too long. Anywho, Rec'd!!

Hi, obf
With D's offering little to no opposition to the R's, I wonder if it makes a whole lot of difference who wins.
