...well more than several I would jog occasionally around Lake Seminole near Clearwater. Of course, there were gators there. Once in a while, they would get a dog that had wandered too close. Once, there was a fisherman who apparently got too close. He was reported missing by his family. After a while the police found his remains in the lake covered up with brush and debris. The gator had concealed the body, after eating a portion of it. The gator was found and killed, and part of the fisherman was found in his stomach.
The county sheriff here reported yesterday, that two dogs left to roam by the owner, mauled and killed an 8 year old boy. The dogs are quarantined now by animal control, but the owner won't give permission to destroy them when the time comes. So this will go through some kind of legal process. The sheriff and DA are trying to come up with a criminal charge against the owner of the dogs. Really a terrible tragedy. I encounter loose dogs often, in the neighborhood but especially in the park where I usually go. When I had smokey people would say stupid stuff like, "don't worry he doesn't bite." I would say "when smokey bites your dog, it will bite back. you need to hold your dog back."
One of my daughter's neighbors lost a dog to a gator a few weeks ago. It's claimed the gator climbed over a fence to get the dog. Don't know if I believe that.
