Let's figure out, first off, the idea of collective responsibility. How could we be collectively responsible? Some sort of transformation will clearly be necessary. Obviously, what we are looking at are symptoms, and the diagnosis is in doing something about the power-structure that disempowers the entire society. The first question to ask: what made this possible?
The mask is off. The 'West', as we knew it, is done with.
What's likely to replace it is a general state of panic, as it is revealed even by the well-paid-off that the current, dreadful state of affairs is the culmination of decades of lousy policy while the masses remain dumbfounded, mere dupes of propaganda and as said well-paid-off continue to block alternatives to the order they foolishly supported and support. I am searching for a title for the next diary: "America? No." is a candidate. Meanwhile you can check out my music criticism to start the new year.

The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.
Let's hope for a good one. One thing that seems clear to me, we had better be self reliant. One thing I need to do is pull out the old generator and crank it to make sure it will crank. It is our well/water power in case of outages. Up at the house we have a small Honda generator and a battery based Bluetti that will power our essentials. It has been several years since we had a long term outage, and that's why we're not prepared.
The weather folks are suggesting a snow in the next couple of weeks. The main danger here is out on the road with folks who don't know how to drive on snow.
We're building a fire down at the camphouse today and testing our new fire ring. Of course in the South it is pork, collard greens and black eyed peas for dinner.
Let's make our own good luck as 2025 progresses.
Thanks for the OT!

Pork and black eyed peas are prodigious sources of protein of course, though I typically want my pork well-cooked and smothered in soy sauce.
Collard greens, however, don't seem to compete well with mustard greens, which I greatly prefer. The real audiences for collard greens, to my experience, are chickens, who love them so much more than human beings.
At any rate, have a delicious new year!

We had an absolutely wretched night. Sam was working herself into quite the snit so I went to bed so she could snuggle and get hugged and then the fcking fireworks started in big time. She laid there shaking and trying to get even closer to me.
The neighbors next to me set off some very loud fireworks and the noise came from their house and echoed back from the house on the other side. 20 minutes of feeling like we were in a war zone.
This morning we’re both worn out, but she’s her happy self again. Me? I’m grumpy and wondering where we can go next year to get her away from the noise. Usually Utah is feet deep in snow this time of year so the trailer is in hibernation mode.
We’ve had 2 small snowstorms and the grounds are bare.
in 12 months we will hit the quarter century mark. Will we be any closer to whirled peas? We don't seem to be off to a good start.
So, a guy named Shamsud Din Jabbar committed an act of terrorism in New Orleans. We know it was terrorism because thats what assorted officials and press-persons are saying and because Biden has said that the Feebs are investigating it as such. After checking a few reports, I have concluded that it is terrorism because the perpetrator was named Shamsud Din Jabbar. It appears that Jabbar did not made any demands, issue and statement or publish any manifesto before the attack. It is not at all clear what, if anything, he was trying to get changed or done. So far we appear to lack anything differentiating this from the average mass shooting, so I grabbed the first definition I could get my hands on to check my understanding of the word terrorism.
the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
alternatively, der wiki, gets arguably more thorough:
Terrorism, in its broadest sense, is the use of violence against non-combatants to achieve political or ideological aims.[1] The term is used in this regard primarily to refer to intentional violence during peacetime or in the context of war against non-combatants
What political or ideological aims was Jabbar trying to further? Anybody?
If seems that TPTB are lately, perhaps all throughout this still young century, trying to fit that shoe on anything and everything, anybody and everybody, and it isn't helping matters one bit, and is greasing the ongoing daily advancing slide into totalitarianism.

Don't know about you, but strolling along on a sidewalk has totally lost it's former appeal to me.
About that Southern New Year's meal: Pork, black eyed peas for good luck, collard greens (my family preferred home grown turnip greens, as I still do), representing good luck in making green backs, and corn bread (or sweet potatoes) representing good luck in getting gold.
I am breaking with tradition and skipping that meal in favor of something simpler to put together after the packing, 6 hr. drive, unpacking, and just getting adjusted to having no Gulf waters to see.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981
The google translation subtitles in english on this news broadcast is quite good, if you care to hear the report.
This is cued to the one minute mark, so it's only another minute long. It shows the crowd of taeguki type right wing military vets, and the evangelicals who have rallied in Hannamdong, at the entrance to the VIP hill there where the suspended president Yoon's official presidential residence is located. This crowd is sizeable in the hundreds at least. Five hundred police have mustered there to prevent the crowd from getting into the neighborhood where a number of government VIP homes are located including the presidential residence. Yoon himself sent a letter to these right wing actors encouraging them to "fight to the end" to protect democracy, freedom and the constitutional order, from "anti-state forces."
There will be an attempt in near future to arrest Yoon, by police as a court has issued a warrant for his arrest and also a search warrant. Security arguments were raised in defense of Yoon, but the court's opinion has ruled them out. It was claimed national security secrets would be affected by any nonconsensual search or entry into the residence.
Police fear that the crowd, which doesn't hesitate to actively or passively resist police, will try to obstruct police execution of arrest warrant. The warrant has to be executed on or before the 6th, when it expires. It may be executed soon, in order to allow time, for a second try before the deadline. Some of the Yoon supporters were brought there by Jeon Gwang-hun, a right wing preacher, known for his right wing youtube programs, vulgar language, and cult of right wing followers from the Sarang Jae-il Church. I saw a couple of his "Jesus Saves" type tractor trailers on the thoroughfare there yesterday.
The presidential guard has indicated that it may resist Yoon's arrest. They are considered to be armed, and whether they will resist or not is worrisome to the responsible police and prosecution agencies. They are regarded as personally loyal to Yoon, rather than to the constitutional order. The agency which obtained the warrants, the Office for Investigating Corruption of High Officials has warned the presidential guard and security force, that not only the commanders of these services but also rank and file guards, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and may be considered aiding insurrection, if they resist of the execution of legal processes on the president.

....government assigned too much authority to national public prosecutors service. This is the agency that Yoon claimed he controlled personally during the Moon Jae-in administration as prosecutor general. This was a defiance of the authority of Justice Minister, one of which, Cho Guk, the prosecution service pushed out and prosecuted. This is the MO of the ruling conservative class, pro-Japan, pro-US, pro-monopoly capitalism (the chaebol elites), ideological, anti North Korean of course, but more than that, anti-Sunshine Policy which emerged in South Korean domestic politics after the dictatorship period. These elites are in league with the dominant mainstream media, in an alliance called geom-eon yoo-chak, prosecution-press collusion, to prosecute political rivals, suppress independent media and entertainment, and jail, activists, labor leaders, etc. It starts by smearing them in the press, then arresting or indicting them. They are acting primarily in the interest in the US and are opposed to any reconciliation, or overtures to North Korea. This is how the right responded to the liquidation of the former dictatorships.
The administrations of presidents Kim Dae-jung, No Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in, all tried to improve relations with North Korea. This was motivated by the natural market complementary nature of the two economies, the common culture, the national identity, a thousand years of prior national unity, (Choseon and Koryo dynasties), and a realistic desire that this is the way to lessen national security tension on the peninsula. The US and Japan don't buy it. Neither do the chaebol elites in South Korea. A friendly relationship or at least neutrality in the China US rivalry, would better serve the South's economic and security interests as well.
So the elites that support Yoon are really acting in the US, Japanese interest rather than South Korea's sovereign interest. It's the old imperialist/cold war frame.
