Feeding the hungry in Eugene, Oregon
Neighbors Feeding Neighbors
Rumor has it that the city of Eugene has been extorting enormous amounts of money in "permit fees" so that this group can feed the hungry. Something like $75/ day amounting to $15,400 per year, or at least that's the discussion on Facebook. Does anyone here know anything more about this?
The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.

I caught part of a local (Eugene) TV news story about this. They showed homeless people being served a Christmas meal in a grassy area near the highway ramp. The newscaster said a policeman had come by and told the organizers they wouldn’t be allowed to do this in the future. All I remember, it differs a bit from your account. Either way, it is appalling.

but groups that feed the poor and homeless have been persecuted for as long as I can recall, but TPTB need something that they are in violation of in order to legally harass them very much, hence permits and fees.

SAT, AUS and Del Rio all broke their temp records today, 87F and up. NOAA says one of the hottest ever December days in Texas. Lots of green grass in the yard but no leaves on the trees except Junipers and live-oaks. Dry cold front hits tonight and high of 60f tomorrow. Still D3 drought, extreme.

The Korean travelogue today from which I learned this saying was primarily about the Hongqiqu Scenic Area in Henan near Anyang. The history of the canal in the Red Rock Canyon (?) a rugged high elevation irrigation project was built by a massive labor project by the communist government in the 60s.
