The Weekly Watch

Bully, Bribe, Bomb

Open Thread Image.jpg

Today's title is courtesy of Chas Freeman's description of US diplomacy and foreign policy. I think the big news this week is the sneak attack in Syria, but there are many pieces being moved around the global chessboard. There was the episode in S. Korea when the president attempted martial law...and was foiled. There was a vote of no confidence in the Macron government in France. There was Hunter's broad sweeping pardon by Biden. Tucker went to Moscow this week and interviewed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Russia continues to advance in Ukraine, and the genocide in Gaza grows with food and aid blocked. The INTEL Roundtable w/ Johnson & McGovern : Weekly Wrap touches on many of these stories and has a good rant by Larry.

(30 min)

So let's begin with the US, UK, Turkey hired mercenary jihadist terrorists sneak attack on Syria. They are NATO trained and armed. You know the terrorists we used to fight, but now employ to overtake Syria (as we've done since 2011). Pepe did a good job explaining how serious the situation really is.

(50 min) The article he mentions in the interview is below...
The Syria riddle: How it may turn into the First BRICS War
The timeline tells the story.
November 18: Ronen Bar, Israel’s Shin Bet chief, meets with heads of MIT, Turkey’s intel.
November 25: NATO Chief Mark Rutte meets with Turkey’s Sultan Erdogan.
November 26: Salafi-jihadis assembled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly Nusa Front, supported by Turkish intel, plus a hefty Rent-a-Jihadi coalition, launch a lightning-fast attack against Aleppo.
The Rent-a-Jihadi offensive originated in Greater Idlibistan. That’s where tens of thousands of jihadis were holed up, according to the – now proven failed – 2020 Damascus-Moscow strategy, which Turkey had to grudgingly accept. The Rent-a-Jihadi mob comprises scores of mercenaries who crossed over from – where else – Turkey: Uighurs, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Ukrainians, even ISIS-K imports.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, earlier their week, confirmed the Salafi-jihadi offensive was coordinated by US/Israel.
Baghaei did not mention Turkey, even as he stressed the terror attack happened immediately after Israel accepted a ceasefire with Hezbollah – already broken by Tel Aviv dozens of times – and after Netanyahu publicly accused Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of “playing with fire” by allowing the transit of modern Iranian missiles and military equipment via Syria to Hezbollah.
Right before the ceasefire, Tel Aviv smashed virtually all communication routes between Syria and Lebanon. Netanyahu subsequently stressed that the focus now is on “the Iranian threat”, essential to smash the Axis of Resistance.

The Syria Tragedy and the New Omni-War (Pepe Escobar)
Until recently, a serious geopolitical working hypothesis was that West Asia and Ukraine were two vectors of the standard Hegemon modus operandi, which is to incite and unleash Forever Wars. Now both wars are united in an Omni-War.
A coalition of Straussian neo-cons in the US, hardcore revisionist Zionists in Tel Aviv and Ukrainian neo-nazi shades of grey is now betting on a Final Confrontation – with several overtones ranging from expanding lebensraum to provoking the Apocalypse.

Larry Johnson says he thinks much of the doom and gloom is propaganda.
Larry C. Johnson: Hama Falls, Syria in Chaos, Turkey Backing HTS against Iran & Russia (55 min)
In his conversation with Yves Smith, he describes how he used to create propaganda for the CIA.

Larry suggest to understand the situation in Syria the trick is to follow the money. Pepe (in the clip above) says it is about pipelines... which most on C99 saw in the first Syrian incursion by the US. Jeffery Sachs also agrees.

The Duran also weigh in Erdogan's gamble in Syria. (20 min) Their analysis is the most optimistic.

George Galloway and Kevork Almassian in the 1st 30 min.

George lays it out in his intro as only he can.

Well, this morning it looks like Pepe was most correct...
The Syrian Army command announced on Sunday that President Bashar Assad’s 24-year rule has come to an end, according to a Syrian officer who spoke to Reuters. The announcement follows a rapid offensive by jihadist forces in the capital. The jihadists claim that Damascus is “now free of Assad” and are expected to make their first public statement via state TV, Reuters reports, citing two anti-government sources. In response to the political uncertainty, Prime Minister Mohammad al-Jalali stated that he is “ready to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people,” as quoted by Al Jazeera. He added that he remains at home and is inclined to support the continuity of government.
Ahmed Al-Sharaa, a prominent commander for the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has issued orders prohibiting all militant forces in Damascus from approaching public institutions or firing weapons into the air. He went on to say that government institutions will remain under the supervision of the “former prime minister” until they are officially transferred to the new authorities. Over the weekend, HTS fighters and other anti-government militias entered Damascus, effectively taking control of the capital. Flight tracking websites indicate that Assad’s plane has left the city.

Who are these jihadist?

The MSM are spinning it that the jihadist are moderate rebels (sounds familiar doesn't it?)

Here's the first question...
Tucker Carlson: Minister Lavrov, thank you for doing this. Do you believe the United States and Russia are at war with each other right now?
Sergey Lavrov: I wouldn't say so. And in any case, this is not what we want. We would like to have normal relations with all our neighbors, of course, but generally with all countries especially with the great country like the United States. And President Vladimir Putin repeatedly expressed his respect for the American people, for the American history, for the American achievements in the world, and we don't see any reason why Russia and the United States cannot cooperate for the sake of the universe.
Tucker Carlson: But the United States is funding a conflict that you're involved in, of course, and now is allowing attacks on Russia itself. So that doesn't constitute war?
Sergey Lavrov: Well, we officially are not at war. But what is going on in Ukraine is that some people call it hybrid war. I would call it hybrid war as well, but it is obvious that the Ukrainians would not be able to do what they're doing with long-range modern weapons without direct participation of the American servicemen. And this is dangerous, no doubt about this.
We don't want to aggravate the situation, but since ATACMS and other long-range weapons are being used against mainland Russia as it were, we are sending signals. We hope that the last one, a couple of weeks ago, the signal with the new weapon system called Oreshnik was taken seriously.

Amb. Chas Freeman: From Ukraine to Syria, Are we heading Towards Huge Escalations?
(40 min)

Donald Trump’s advisers have presented him with three plans for resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Reuters has reported, citing several sources close to the US president-elect. Despite certain differences, all of the proposals include Kiev ceding territory to Moscow and giving up on its aspiration to join NATO, the agency said in an article on Wednesday. Trump’s former national security official, who was involved in the ongoing government transition in the US, told Reuters that one of the plans came from the President-elect’s incoming Russia-Ukraine envoy, retired Army Lieutenant-General Keith Kellogg. The other two were authored by Vice President-elect JD Vance and Trump’s former acting intelligence chief, Richard Grenell, respectively, according to the official.

The West will not return any of the Russian sovereign assets frozen as part of sanctions over the Ukraine conflict, the CEO of major Russian lender VTB, Andrey Kostin, has predicted, as cited by Reuters. The US and its allies have immobilized around $300 billion of assets belonging to the Russian central bank since 2022 as part of Ukraine-related sanctions. The funds deposited in Brussels-based clearing house Euroclear have generated billions in interest, which the EU has decided to use to finance Kiev.

What's going on with the Georgia protests?
Up to a third of those identified at recent protests in Tbilisi have turned out to be foreign nationals, according to the executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Mamuka Mdinaradze. The anti-government protests broke out in the Georgian capital last week after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that he would be freezing accession talks with the EU due to Brussels’ “constant blackmail and manipulation” of the former Soviet republic’s domestic politics. Pro-EU protesters have since taken to the streets and repeatedly clashed with law enforcement, setting off fireworks and throwing Molotov cocktails at riot police, as well as setting fire to the parliament building. Law enforcement officials have in turn deployed tear gas and water cannons in an attempt to disperse the protesters, over 200 of whom have reportedly been arrested.

EU's Georgia regime change operation enters final month (20 min)
The video discusses ongoing protests in Georgia, with the EU and US pressuring the government. It analyzes the situation as a potential color revolution attempt, comparing it to Ukraine in 2014.

Georgia PM: “Some people, including the EU ambassador, have told us that they will recognize Georgia only if murderers, executioners, kidnappers of TV stations, business racketeers and people who started the war in 2008, return to power.”

President Putin faces the possibility of a second Ukraine, a second war front that could result from Washington’s success in staging a coup d’etat in Georgia with a color revolution. Riots ongoing since the “Russian party” defeated the “Western party” by 54% to 34% have convinced the Prime Minister of Georgia that the West is in the process of launching a color revolution to overthrow, as was done in Ukraine, the democratically elected government.

Bringing it Home

Back in the US we had the sweeping pardon of Hunter with more to follow as Biden tries to Trump proof the government and spread as much chaos as possible to impede the new administration.

Neil Oliver says TPTB are sticking to us and pardoning themselves.

(14 min) …Biden is making it plain that its one set of rules for them & another set for us!!!

We are sitting on the biggest cover-up of who knows what crimes, and Biden knows exactly when it started. He’s leaving office in disgrace—a liar. There’s no spinning this. It has nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with the character of Joe Biden.”
“You guys can spend all day long trying to spin this, that this is Donald Trump’s fault... These people are liars. ‘Inflation is transitory. Afghanistan, it’s a success. The border is secure. Robert Hur is a liar. The videos are cheap fakes. Biden has a cold. He’ll never drop out. Oh, I’ll never pardon Hunter.’ It’s all a lie. It is all a grift. Every American except the most partisan, brain-rotted people are going to be outraged by this.”

The Pocket Pardon and the Final Corruption of the Biden Administration (Turley)
The most shocking aspect of President Biden pardoning his own son, Hunter, may be that it was not in the least shocking, given the history of the Biden family. This abuse of the pardon power was widely anticipated even by his allies as the president repeatedly denied that he would ever do such a thing as he ran for reelection. Indeed, it may be the single most premeditated unethical act in political history. However, it may not achieve what President Biden most hopes for: a clean slate for his son and himself in this massive corruption scandal. Roughly two years ago, I wrote about how Biden might suddenly withdraw from the presidential race in 2024 and pardon his son as a lame-duck president. “The pardon-and-apology approach might appeal to Biden not only as an effort to convert vice into virtue but to justify his withdrawal from the election as a selfless act,” I wrote.
I further noted: “Everyone in Washington would win — except, of course, the public: The Bidens would keep alleged millions in influence-peddling profits; Hunter would not even have to pay his full taxes; members of Congress and the media could avoid taking responsibility for burying the reports of corruption.” I wrote about the pardon option repeatedly because none of Hunter’s bizarre (and ultimately unsuccessful) criminal defenses made sense unless he felt confident that his father would pardon him in the end. Hunter’s taunting Congress with open contempt of a subpoena and his ridiculous defenses in court were not the actions of someone who feared consequences from these investigations. They were the actions of someone with a pocket pardon.

Elon Musk Targeting Social Security Is HUGE Mistake! (30 min)
Since Franklin Delano Roosevelt passed it into being in 1933, America’s Social Security system has been overwhelmingly popular. While faith in other government programs and agencies has notably waned over the decades, Americans’ opinions about New Deal-era programs has remained shockingly resilient. It's oh, he's just a contrarian. And we've been called just contrarians. 1. Yoon's corruption was essentially in turning the administration of justice into political extortion/persecution operation known as the "dictatorship of prosecutors." This changed the nature of SK from a free country to something else.

2. The emergence of a dictatorship run by Yoon was anticipated by some political analysts in the alternative media in SK for a long time, because of his admiration for prior dictators, his authoritarian personality, and his turning the justice system into mafia like machine, to protect his supporters, family and the chaebol class, and punish his so called "state enemies." The US just overlooked this for its own geopolitical and economic gains, and supported him by every means possible.

3. The coup attempt didn't "come out of the blue." At a legislative hearing, Kim Min-seok, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party, accused the Yoon administration and the newly appointed Defense Minister of planning a coup d'etat on or about Sep 2, more than two months before it happened, which the former Defense Minister, who executed the coup plan for Yoon's benefit just in last several days, denied under oath at that time. Circumstantial evidence at the time suggested the accusation was based on a reasonable suspicion and subsequent events proved this to be correct.

4. South Korea isn't doing well economically. The economic decline is South Korea and its budget deficit and balance of payments deficit are starting to resemble those during the IMF crisis and 2008 economic collapse. It's referred to as the "people's livelihood" issue. This is a major factor underlying the political unrest. Yoon, Han and their domestic and US supporters couldn't care less.

5. What alienated Russia from SK initially was its shipping of half a million artillery rounds to Poland which probably all ended up in Ukraine. Some say these rounds were transported indirectly through the US, but they are fungible. This violated the spirit if not the letter of SK law which bars sending weapons to a party engaged in a war without legislative approval. As I understand it, the SK policy of building an arms industry infrastructure in Poland, preceded by shipments of weapons in kind in the first phase, like tanks and mobile tracked artillery, may have been initially planned during the Moon administration. I'm sure it wasn't looked on favorably by Russia at the time, but little if anything was heard about it. The straw that broke the camel's back was the "secret" artillery shell shipment, revealed in a classified US intelligence leak online on the discord server by a US reserve military member.

6. Yoon declared martial law about 10:30 pm or so, Seoul time not 2am.

7. The coup attempt was primarily about avoiding Yoon's impeachment, and the premature accession to presidential office by Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the majority opposition party. The best indication of this was the close call yesterday, when the opposition missed overriding Yoon's veto of a special investigation into his wife's corruption by only two votes. 198 votes in favor of a special investigation into his wife. (2/3 vote is 200). This had been preceded a couple of weeks back by a vote to change special investigator appointments by removing the PPPs ability to nominate candidates for the investigation team leader. This meant two things. Yoon's wife is likely to go to prison. If the opposition party can override Yoon's repeated vetoes of such legislation, then they can impeach him too. Investigation into his wife, would have revealed all Yoon's unlawful involvement in the First Lady's unlawful activities, and obstruction of justice by Yoon. That being said, it's true that the US objective was to keep Yoon in power by all means, and get more military support for Ukraine, and geopolitical and economic traction against Russia and China. Also, to keep SK bound to the new trilateral alliance with Japan and the US against China.

8. Plan B is to make Han Dong-hun, Yoon's former right hand man, the de facto leader in South Korea, and to convict Lee Jae-myung who would be a less pliable president; this would disqualify Lee from public office and remove him from any upcoming election for president of South Korea. It appears very likely that Yoon's term will end prematurely, they want to remove Lee and also Cho Guk from the political scene by hook or crook, mostly using the pending politically motivated criminal prosecutions Yoon and Han started against them and their families a few years ago. The situation is chaotic now, Han and the US faction are playing it by ear.

This seems like an appropriate song under the circumstances:

Israel will now annex large chunks of what used to be Syria, as well as most of what used to be Jordan, with their neo-Blitzkrieg then rolling on into Iraq and Iran. So, perhaps in the best possible outcome, Russia might choose to use a couple of their new conventional MRBMs on Tel Aviv and Haifa, when it becomes clear that the Zionist entity will not stop until they are conclusively and finally stopped. Their blood lust for Liebensraum will not be satisfied with just regional domination, and they will happily ride our checkbooks into either glory or destruction. And all glory is fleeting.

It remains to be seen if their inevitable destruction occurs simultaneously with our own.

since 1979. Since at least 2006, AQ (by whatever name) was designated to be the vanguard and pave the path through Syria. (KSA was funding the gathering of head-choppers in Lebanon.) Conjectures/suspicions that AQ in Syria was receiving surplus military gear from Libya are probably correct. The White Helmets was another component of the mission.

Sad for the people of Syria that Iran/Russia/China now had to sacrifice the Syrian pawn. Gleeful hand rubbing and the popping of champagne corks is the order of today in western capitals and Israel. Sad that they celebrate the loss of much of the rich history and culture in Syria. And only needed a bargain with devils to accomplish it. Like the western cheering when Russian/USSR troops left Afghanistan. So, a gang of backstabbing creatures are now "own" the region. What could go wrong?

The first thing I expect to see is a new flood of refugees - into and out of Syria. Are European countries, the UK, and US prepared to welcome them? Expected inflow - worldwide "AQ" members rushing to their own new homeland. How much territory will they cede to Israel and Turkey? Agenda items: payback for the assassination of OBL and capture of KSA as the homeland they want. Lebanon will be pillaged by the frenemies. Jordan may not be far behind. The Kurds may be toast. No rosy scenarios that I can come up with.

They are the same Turkic Uighurs who the CIA recruited to create ISIS. The head chopping terrorists.

Recall that ISIS also had a huge fleet of matching Toyota trucks with gun mounts in the truck bed.

Not to be confused with the Chinese Uighurs, who have been affiliated with China for a millennium or more and are protected by China's constitution.

Prior to ISIS, the Turkic Uighurs were sent to Xinjiang, China by the CIA in order to infiltrate the Chinese Uighurs. In China, they promoted a terrorist doctrine against the Chinese, via school books and radical Muslim teachings in the Uighur language. This ultimately resulted in Turkic Uighur-led terrorist attacks on Chinese citizens at transportation hubs in Xinjiang Province. The CIA goal was to disrupt the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), an infrastructure project that exits China in the Xinjiang Provence and heads west along the former Silk Road trading route. The purpose of the BRI is to provides shipping and transportation infrastructure across the entire Eastern hemisphere. The BRI brings international trade to landlocked nations in order to ultimately irradiate world poverty. Int has been enormously effective.

The election may have turned on the price of eggs, but it seems Republican leaders are rushing to use their power to pursue policies unrelated, or even contradictory, to that issue, like cutting support for seniors and health care for Americans of all ages.

On Tuesday, Republican Rep. Richard McCormick said “hard decisions” will need to be made on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. “There’s hundreds of billions of dollars to be saved. We just have to have the stomach to take those challenges on,” McCormick told Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business Network.

The Great War...the War to End ALL Wars. Didn't work out that way.
The more things change, the more they stay the same...

Lyrics
Now when I was a young man I carried me pack, and I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murray's green basin to the dusty outback, well, I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in 1915, my country said son, it's time you stopped rambling, there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat, and they gave me a gun, and they marched me away to the war

And the band played Waltzing Matilda, as the ship pulled away from the Quay
And amidst all the cheers, the flag-waving and tears, we sailed off for Gallipoli

And how well I remember that terrible day, how our blood stained the sand and the water
And of how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay, we were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was waiting, he'd primed himself well, he showered us with bullets
And he rained us with shell, and in five minutes flat, he'd blown us all straight to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia

But the band played Waltzing Matilda, when we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours, and the Turks buried theirs, then we started all over again

And those that were left, well we tried to survive, in that mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive, though around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head, and when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, well I wished I was dead: never knew there was worse things than dyin'

For I'll go no more waltzing Matilda, all around the green bush far and free
To hang tent and pegs, a man needs both legs-no more waltzing Matilda for me

So they gathered the crippled, the wounded, the maimed, and they shipped us back home to Australia
The legless, the armless, the blind, the insane, those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay, I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thanked Christ there was nobody waiting for me, to grieve, to mourn, and to pity

But the band played Waltzing Matilda, as they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared, then they turned all their faces away

And so now every April, I sit on me porch, and I watch the parades pass before me
And I see my old comrades, how proudly they march, reviving old dreams of past glories
And the old men march slowly, old bones stiff and sore, the forgotten heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask, what are they marching for? ...and I ask myself the same question

But the band plays Waltzing Matilda, and the old men still answer the call
But as year follows year, more old men disappear, someday no one will march there at all

"Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?
And their ghosts may be heard as they march by that billabong, who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"

Wishing you and the world peace tonight amidst the chaos and conflict....

The linked article below is about Kim Min-seok who warned of martial law months in advance. The excerpt doesn't do it justice. Recommend the whole article. Assemblyman Kim, in the article said that Yoon's former defense minister reminded him of dictator Park Chung-hee's feared Director of Security, Cha Ji-cheol.

This lawmaker sounded the alarm about martial law in August — here’s how he knew

Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, who allegedly recommended declaring martial law to Yoon, was a year ahead of Yoon at Choongam High School. Lt. Gen. Yeo In-hyeong, commander of the Defense Counterintelligence Command (DCC), a military intelligence agency, also went to Choongam High. The DCC is the successor to the Defense Security Command (DSC), which drafted the proposal to implement martial law during the Park Geun-hye administration. In the event that martial law is imposed, the DCC heads key investigations and operates a joint investigation headquarters responsible for coordinating and controlling state intelligence and investigative agencies.

Other Choongam High alumni in positions of power include Park Jong-seon, the leader of the Defense Security Agency commonly known as the “777 Command” that gathers intelligence on North Korea, and Interior Minister Lee Sang-min, who, alongside the defense minister, is vested with the authority to recommend the imposition of martial law to the president.

When asked if there are any additional preventative measures regarding the martial law declaration, Kim responded, “The president’s declaration [or martial law] was valid for all of two or three hours. But this is likely only the first wave. The embers are still glowing,” he said.

“When I first brought this up in broad daylight during the 21st century, most people probably thought I was a weirdo, but now we need to bring the entire thing into the light and think about additional countermeasures. It’s such a dumbfounding situation,” he added.

Studying prior martial law plans to come up with the Yoon plan.

Another key piece of evidence about the Yoon administration's attempt to impose martial law, was revealed today by Assemblywoman Chu Mi-ae, a former Justice Minister under Moon Jae-in. Late in the Moon administration, Chu initiated a disciplinary action against Yoon Seok-yeol that drove him out of the Prosecutor General's Office at that time. He resigned to pursue his political campaign for president while appealing the findings of his unethical and unprofessional conduct.

Earlier today, Chu called a press conference to disclose that an informant had leaked to her the operational plans for the imposition of martial law formulated by the Yoon administration Defense Ministry after research and study of prior martial law plans particularly those of dictators Park Chung-hee, and Chun Doo-hwan. After research and study, the detailed plans for martial law were formulated and finalized November 1, 2024. The Counter Intelligence Command was the lead agency coordinating the plans formulation. Chu displayed these operational plans during the press conference and subsequent interview.

In the subsequent OhMyNews interview, Chu recounted a story, also from a confidential source, who had attended a party in the past while former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun was in command of the Capital Defense Command. At the party, Kim, the prime mover behind the martial law plot, bragged that he enjoyed reading Mein Kampf.
