European Erosion and the Wasting Away of the Western World

Open Thread Image.jpg

The end of empire echoes across the western world. Political leaders across the spectrum are being rejected by the people, and yet retain power... from Van der Lying being reappointed to the unpopularity of Stammer, Macron, and Sholtz. Orban seems to be the only European leader supported by his own people, as the other EU countries try to sanction, punish, and even coup him. The US continues to lose international respect as they steal Maduro's airplane (after stealing Citco and the Venezeulan gold reserves in London) not to mention the theft of Russian assets. Most of the world understands the role of US in the ongoing Palestinian genocide. Meanwhile there's the distraction of the election. Now TPTB are rolling out Russiagate version 3.0 which Ray Mcgovern suggests is a way to prepare the citizenry for a war with Russia.

Russian Offensive Picking Up Steam

Ukrainian President Zelensky’s hope that the invasion of Kursk would weaken the Russian advance across the line of contact is shattered. Instead of laying back, the Russians are intensifying ground assaults and air strikes across Ukrainian territory. When I woke up this morning, news broke that Russia hit a military training center in Poltava with two missiles and inflicted more than 400 military casualties. At least 51 dead, and the numbers are climbing. NATO trainers, reportedly from Sweden, are among the casualties.
The strikes on the Ukrainian training centers marks a shift in Russian tactics. They are hitting them with a vengeance and are sending a clear message to the NATO countries — FAFO (this means, Fuck Around, Find Out). As I am writing this there are new reports of additional strikes in Kiev, Poltava and the Ukrainian University building in Sumy.

I don't see this ending well for Ukraine, but the US has been willing to fight to the last Ukrainian.

Kiev’s incursion in Kursk Region has failed to achieve its goal and may lead to a complete defeat, the Russian president has said. High casualties incurred by the Ukrainian military since Kiev launched its incursion in Russia’s Kursk Region could render its armed forces useless, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

Will Ukraine's defeat lead to desperate measures?

A Unique Kind of Fascism’: US Continues Clampdown on Alt Media
The Biden administration signaled that it would continue to clamp down on alternative media Wednesday with the announcement of several measures against figures connected to Russian outlets. “Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated ten individuals and two entities as part of a coordinated US government response to Moscow’s malign influence efforts targeting the 2024 US presidential election,” read a statement released Wednesday morning. US Attorney General Merrick Garland claimed individuals connected to Russian media outlets were involved in a campaign to spread “disinformation” in the months leading up to November’s election, a favored talking point the Biden administration has repeatedly used to justify its heavy-handed tactics in regulating social media.

No Foreign Attempts To Interfere In Presidential Election Detected
US authorities have not detected any attempts by foreign actors to directly interfere in the upcoming presidential election, representatives of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) have stated. Intelligence officials did, however, claim that Russia, Iran and China are trying to sway public opinion and sow discord in American society.During the 2016 and 2020 elections, US intelligence agencies repeatedly alleged that Moscow was deploying hackers and using “information warfare” to swing the vote in favor of Donald Trump.None of these claims have been proven true; a report released by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in 2019 found them to be baseless.

DoJ Clampdown on Russian Media Proving US Empire Has No Clothes
The US Justice Department’s sweeping crackdown on Russian media on Wednesday to the thunderous applause of the legacy media will leave Americans a little less informed, less safe and a lot less free, observers including long-time Sputnik contributors say. “It looks like the US Department of Justice is producing another election year spectacular. Sixty days before the election we are invited to suspend our disbelief and embrace ‘Russia, Russia, Russia: The Sequel.’ And once again the DOJ is rounding up the usual suspects: Trump, Russia and Democracy,” political commentator and Newsmax columnist Michael Shannon told Sputnik, commenting on the DoJ’s unprecedented crackdown on Russian media Wednesday over alleged “disinformation” and an election-related “malign influence operation.”
“I predict the audience for this lame sequel will be the remaining mask wearers, Clot Shot booster advocates, Trump haters, consonant crusaders and government employees. Anyone else with simple common sense will see it for what it is: The DOJ’s attempt to influence the election,” Shannon stressed. The figures being alleged by the Justice Department are also laughable, according to the observer. “Let’s put alleged Russian influence buying in perspective. The indictment says Tenent Media was given $10 million to ‘influence the election.’ I’ve got news for you. $10 million would barely influence a US Senate race. The amount is hardly a drop in the bucket for a presidential race. Donald Trump and Joe Biden combined spent $1.85 BILLION in 2020,” Shannon emphasized.

Scott Ritter Says Ending Cooperation With RT, Sputnik Due to US Sanctions
The US Department of the Treasury issued a statement on Wednesday to announce sanctions against the Rossiya Segodnya media group, RIA Novosti, RT, Sputnik and Ruptly. The sanctions affected Rossiya Segodnya and RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan and a number of other senior executives. “The actions by the Department of the Treasury in levying new sanctions against RT, Sputnik, and other Russian media organizations has made it impossible for me to continue my work as an outside contributor for RT and Sputnik, as well as participating in interviews and other collaborations with other Russian media,” Ritter said on X. He said his work with Russian media organizations was legitimate journalism.
“I reject the notion that the work I have done over the past years with the newly sanctioned Russian media organizations has been anything other than legitimate journalism, the content of which has been factually correct and analytically sound, and always of my own creation,” Ritter said. However, he said, he is committed to obeying US laws. “Nonetheless, I am fully committed to obeying US law, and as such will be terminating all contractual relationships with both RT and Sputnik effective immediately, as well as suspending my participation in any and all media interaction with sanctioned individuals and organizations until which time it is deemed lawful to do so by US authorities,” Ritter said. He said he will continue to exercise his free speech rights.

Those of you who regularly visit the weekly watch know I've been stressing the importance of diet and lifestyle for health and well being. RFK has made it a big part of the campaign , and I think it will be an effective strategy.

Why the Political Establishment Won’t Touch the Chronic Disease Issue (7 min)

Despite all the money spent on US healthcare, an astounding number of Americans suffer from chronic illnesses. Yet the political establishment has shown no interest in even discussing the issue. It’s important to understand why. (Article here)

Did you catch Tuckers interview with Calley & Casey Means? Well, this week Calley was on RFK's podcast for an interesting conversation. (45 min)

In this eye-opening interview, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sits down with healthcare reform advocate Calley Means to discuss how the food and pharmaceutical industries are profiting from chronic diseases at the expense of public health. Calley shares his personal story of losing his mother to cancer, revealing how this tragedy inspired him to expose the corrupt practices that prioritize medications over preventive health measures. Together, they explore how TrueMed, Calley's company, is helping Americans use tax-free savings for health-boosting products.
Tune in as they uncover shocking details about how the healthcare system, regulatory agencies, and even the IRS are complicit in keeping people sick and reliant on drugs—while true solutions like better nutrition and exercise are often ignored. This powerful conversation also touches on the devastating impact of these policies on marginalized communities and what can be done to turn the tide in the fight for a healthier future.

I think this is an effective strategy that most people can get behind. Will it change behavior? I don't know. Food addiction is hard to overcome. The tobacco scientists designed food to be addictive, but smoking tobacco has been minimized as the health risks became common knowledge. Perhaps the same will be true if the healthy eating message gets out.

Why is the west in decline?
I personally think the degradation began with the creation of the CIA.

Robert Scheer and Hugh Wilford discuss his book “The CIA: An Imperial History” (1 hour)

The CIA’s general role in world politics since the end of World War II as a secret rogue spy agency controlled by unelected intelligence officers has become so ubiquitous that it can be joked about. But behind the jokes lies a far darker reality: the agency's imperial ambitions have fueled a legacy of death and destruction in the name of expanding American power. Hugh Wilford, author and professor of history at California State University, Long Beach, joins host Robert Scheer on this episode of the Scheer Intelligence podcast to delve into the specifics of CIA operations and their impact on geopolitics from its inception to the present day.

To my mind the FBI works hand in hand with the CIA to control domestic issues. Jimmy used to play a clip of an FBI agent saying on camera their job was to make sure no socialist are elected.

So here we are at end of empire. All I know to do is sit back and try to enjoy the show.

One thing about the dry weather is the mowing relief as grass growth slows. We may get some rain later this week. Hope so.

There is Shape note or sacred harp singing. Nearby Sand Mountain is well known for all their singings.

Alabama Sacred Harp Singers - Present Joys
Recorded in 1942 by Alan Lomax for the Library of Congress.

Many churches are built for the singing. Square buildings where you gather on the sides in four groups Tenors, Altos, Baritones, and Bass. Each group has a different shape of the notes they sing. They take turns leading songs from the center calling out the name and number of the song. At noon they have a big dinner on the grounds. Not a bad way to go to church.

SITREP 9/6/24: The Grind Continues as Aftermath of Poltava Strikes Reverberates

It has this interesting notion:

The fact is, the US has secret red-line agreements with Russia and it would simply be too embarrassing for US establishment figures to admit this, as it would be a tremendous signal of weakness on the world stage to have to say: “Sorry, we simply cannot allow them to strike that deep into Russia, otherwise Russia has promised some very painful asymmetric responses to our own forces, efforts, interests worldwide that would prove impossible to counteract.”

Simplicius' suggestion is that US imperialism is at present a paper tiger, and so he continues:

In many ways, this is perfectly understandable because for the US to even admit what those weaknesses are would be a major breach of national security, as it would allow other adversaries to know precisely where Russia is holding the US ‘by the balls’, which would reveal major American vulnerabilities. So, clearly, one cannot really blame the US establishment for not coming clean, and being forced to scrape together these paltry excuses one after the other.

I have no idea how credible this suggestion is. They have wasted away half a million Ukrainian troops so they can keep a Democrat in the White House in 2025? No, that can't be it. Or maybe they're just itching for a war? I could be wrong, but I think it was that Hitler's original plan called for a war in 1942, but he just couldn't wait, and so Poland in September 1939 and France in May 1940.

Their current campaign is entirely on vibes and on throwing the bums a dime, and they had to engineer a palace coup just to get that. So they're not doing this to get a leg up on the Republicans.

I totally agree with your paper tiger analogy. We're big on talk and bravado and short on actual performance. Scott Ritter constantly talks about the lack of strength and training of US forces.

I think if there was a vote, citizens would vote to bring our troops home (from the 800 overseas bases), and focus on this country. Instead we interfere everywhere as the US degrades and crumbles. Sadly those suggesting things like that are being censored.

Hi all, Hey Lookout,

Thanks for the great WW and OT!

Yeah man we had 59F here this morning, coolest temp since April, over four months. We got 4" of rain the 2nd-3rd, so some relief, and 4 days of dryer NE flow also first in four months. Feels like fall. We will still have some heat, but the long hot spell has been broken. A hundred days at a hundred dF here.

Last week you mentioned your upcoming trip to Bon Secour NWR I think is the name? Driven by it a couple times but never had time to stop there. Supposed to be great, and lots of rare birds get turned up there by those Bamy birders. On most coasts in fall, an ideal situation is be there the day after a front, or, during inclement weather which grounds all migrants, or strong south winds, which also grounds them. Weather is everything with knocking migrants down out of the sky. They are going over, but too high to hear or see, and mostly at night for songbirds. Bad weather precluding passage makes it so we can see more of them. Sometimes a few days of it can really stack the birds up. Then it clears and poof they are all gone the next day. Second guessing where and when the migrants will be is a birders favorite pastime. You should get hawk migration over your hill. They use them for thermals and updrafts, it is how they get down the Appalachians without flapping, soaring hill top to hill top. You need a view of the sky.

Last decent rain we got was mid-August, so I'm hoping for some soon. Supposedly there's a tropical storm brewing in the SW gulf headed our way by the end of next week. I'm always skeptical about weather predictions. And as to weather and birding, it is always a gamble.

Trump is espousing various plans that would help the middle class.
I have worked 40 years in the justice system. Democrats have all but broken it. My get-even, knee jerk reaction is to vote for Trump, not that my vote means much to anyone but me.
