Open Thread - 07-19-24 - Ride My See-Saw

Sometimes when you're watching history happen it goes by really fast. Like the last couple of weeks or so. If political years are like dog years, we all just aged rapidly.

I wont try to add anything new to the Trump Assassination© story lines, just about all has already been said, but I do want to point out how the incident has proven to be a masterclass in marketing, symbolism and narrative creation and control, both before and after the event.

In a timeline of an event there is a past, a present, and a future. The past and the future are predicated on the present. The present being that fleeting fragment of a millisecond in time that we recognize as the here and now, that swiftly renders the future into the past. It's that fleeting moment of the present that the story tellers use to define the past and the future to fit within a narrative. Never mind that you witnessed the event in real time, that's not what you saw, here's what you saw, laid out in a neat package of cognitive bias.

Package it in patriotism, repeat the media message ad nauseam, add in some slick AI imaging and babbling talking heads, and you've got a story line worthy of a TMZ gossip column.

That's how modern histories are written, and truth is dispatched right before our eyes.

It looks like Joe Biden is going to drop out of the race and pass the baton to Kamala Harris. History will actually slow down as the world wishes Joe over the full-term presidential finish line petrified by the specter of a Kamala presidency. Hillary Clinton hides in the shadows waiting to replace the baton with a shiv if Kamala stumbles, as the wannabes of the Crown wait, ambitiously, behind the curtain.

But. It matters not. Trump is the ordained. Omm bogazeedee, bogazeedee Omm.

Unity is on the table, the nation will be as one. Let the narrative be written, so let it be done.

[Insert eyeroll here].

As we march into an unknown future rife with pitfalls, let us look back longingly upon the pre-2020 era of slow history and relative sanity, as the doors of reason slam shut behind us.

Don't you find the political drama interesting in light of the fact the presidency is a figurehead position controlled by a multinational deep state?

The drama continues as distraction is the goal (to my mind)

The US Democratic Party has significantly delayed its candidate nomination process for the 2024 presidential election.
A virtual roll call to nominate President Joe Biden as the Democrats’ 2024 candidate which was scheduled for the coming week will now happen sometime in August, the party has announced.

As to the assassination attempt? I like this child's interpretation...

to your opening statement:

Hah! That stick figure drawing is hilarious. But I'm not sure it was drawn by a child, what exactly are the FBI stick figures doing? On second thought, considering what is being taught in schools now-a-days, it may very well have been drawn by a child.

Round and round we go into the vortex of...?

However it shakes out, it won't be a shock. News is suspect. Facts are suspect. All is spin and propaganda, and it doesn't matter is we make sense of it or not. We have little influence either way.

Right now we're voting to pick a boss. Not someone who will do anything for us. I've worked for a Trump, blowhard tyrant flaunting his ego, and wealth, made off my labor. Nodding my head at his self aggrandizing blather while choking down bile. Or A Biden so long of the executive class, floating above, making decisions that run my life without any thought of the consequences to who gets hurt. All the while talking corporate family when it's all about the bottom line.

I'm reminded of the Revolutionary War. The democrats are the red coats, putting discipline above all, marching in formation. following ossified regimental formations to do battle. The republicans are sniping from the trees and using hit and run against them.

In the end it's still two old men wanting to be boss. If Biden drops out it will be a fight for someones "turn", not a new direction. If Trump was out,.....well, the republicans in power prove themselves over and over to excel at toadying up to somebody strong, not leadership.

already have that struggle to throw off a king? You'd think we would have learned our lesson the first time.

I think I'm beginning to understand the push for trans-humanism, the human interface with computer based Boolean Logic. Boolean Logic expression is the idea that all values are either true or false. Replacing that pesky human logical thinking mind with simple yes/no algorithms is a authoritarian's wet dream.

That is the new "taxation without representation", fresh from the minds of psychopaths.

Thanks Snode.

Sounds right to me.

I had been seeing this as the Alantic empire vs. the Indo-Pacific empire. But I guess one can't rule out the Central Command, because a war there particularly against Iran, will show Saudi Arabia and others not playing ball "who controls the middle east," and the world energy markets. The problem is that a war against Iran will be very difficult to "win" or "end." It would certainly be damaging to China economically, but also Japan and South Korea. If their priority is war with China, they could just attempt to cut the sea lines of communication in the South China Sea when the war against China goes hot, and save themselves an unnecessary interim war which will only further weaken the US. Would they be able to convince their wall street supporters or the energy industry of this? I think all the old "counter terrorism experts" won't like it. They had been undergoing a revival with the Israeli Palestinian war and the Houthi intervention. Otherwise they will be like dinosaurs if they don't adapt. All the grand poobahs in DC will have to downplay that part of their resume and turn themselves into instant "China experts." So sad. They and Central Command have undergone a revival recently from the Afghanistan withdrawal.

@soryang
as a back up ally (although there is Japan and S. Korea), or a proxy to do the fighting for them, how could the US even think about taking on China? The same with Iran, we have Israel as an ally, but still.

Maybe that’s the point?

Genocide Joe was already going to get his ass handed to him in November, so why the pressure to replace him if Trump is the choice of our owners?

But if the existential anguish we’re fed about another Trump presidency is in earnest, then how could a planned assassination attempt - by the sorts of people who make those plans, and involving a perfect storm of a cypher gunman and oddly lax security - fail?

And taking everything at face value (rando young Republican assassin, Biden’s COVID infection) seems the most unlikely situation of all!?!

@FutureNow

flip side of the seeming incompetence of the dem party, and the elephant in the room: losing is profitable.

I've posted this before, but I do believe that it is true. I think that they have indeed written off the election, with some glee.

I think that the dem party's plan overall is now back to the same as it has been for at least a decade: to lose the election narrowly, so that their paid-staff/consultant/grifter class can go back to the donors (again) and say "Missed it by that much! Just give us even more money, and we'll win it- next time for sure!”.

The problem is that the dem party has invested so heavily for so long in losing. Losing guarantees that they don't even have to try and govern, and they can't be held responsible for anything: all they can do is bitch and moan and complain endlessly, about how they can't do anything because of the Mean Old Republicans. Which will certainly bring in even more donations from the many wealthy people who are also heavy into bitching and moaning, but doesn't do jack shit to actually, you know, help manage any situation beyond fleecing their donors. So we'll hear lots of bitching and moaning about how they can't do anything, since we didn't give them a supermajority/the White House/cause celebre du jour, and nothing good will happen. They are good at it.

Losing elections is profitable as hell, once you have the scam in place. The dem paid-staff/consultant/grifter class will be making bank! Why would they actually try to avoid losing when it pays them elephant-choking bales of untraceable donated cash? They just want to feed from that self-refilling (and self-fulfilling) trough for as long as possible. Just don't look to them for anything resembling leadership, or actual support of the population at large. That's not what they are there for in this modern era, after all. There are pockets to be lined, and Momma Needz Nu Shooz.

Not a fan.

@FutureNow that the no matter what campaign morsels they bleat out for our consumption, the narrative is always "we won't rock the boat". I bought Obamas narrative, the hope, the change. It was Wall St. and the 1% that got the lifeboats, and Obama made sure the crew beat off the 99% so the lifeboats would not get swamped. The thing that makes the Trump donors nervous is that he can call up a mob just by opening his mouth. I'd bet everything his donors would call out a hit on him if he turned on them.
