And so begins the summer.

Beautiful morning here in the Portland/Vancouver metro area with scattered high clouds and 63 degrees.
My back yard garden is doing great aside from the local squirrel population digging up my corn seed. Will need to go squirrel hunting this morning. I don't harm them, I trap them and take them down by the river and give them new quarters. I typically trap around 20 of them each year. They are a nuisance.
Getting ready for this afternoons high school graduation of my last grandson. I have one granddaughter left to graduate and presently have no great-grandchildren.
These two will be the last I put through college as I probably won't last another 18 years.
My financial help has kept all of them from being lured into the military with the promise of $50 grand in tuition credits upon mustering out.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the military. I have everything against who runs it and for what purpose. I am very much afraid the war in Ukraine to the last Ukrainian will morph into to the last American.
Russia is a Very different opponent than what we are used to fighting.
Anyway, will be in and out all day so, what's on your mind?

Tragicomic scenes from Odessa. A paramedic is called into the AFU recruitment center. He falls ill but they don't let him leave. More paramedics are called. They are locked inside the recruitment center and not allowed to leave, also to be conscripted. More paramedics arrive totry and get their colleagues out and get into a fight with recruitment center staff.

People have recently been debating "casualty ratios" and things like that again. No one knows the precise numbers, but the fact that a military-aged Russian man can take a leisurely summer stroll through the parks and gardens of any Russian city without fear of being kidnapped, while a Ukrainian man has to dress in his wife's clothes to go to the supermarket, and even paramedics are being press-ganged, should give you an idea.

It's good the people are fighting back.
All they are recruiting is resistance and rebellion.

Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

@humphrey would they surrender?
And why wouldn't they?
Ukraine is a shit country.
I will readily agree with anybody who says the USA is also a shit country.
Thanks for the OT, e1!

https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/11/middleeast/israel-gaza-un-security-counci...

Israel has vowed to persist with its military operation in Gaza, saying it won’t engage in “meaningless” negotiations with Hamas, shortly after the United Nations Security Council overwhelmingly approved a US-backed ceasefire plan intended to bring an end to the eight-month war.

Israel’s representative to the UN, Reut Shapir Ben-Naftaly, emphasized at a UNSC meeting Monday that her country wants to “ensure that Gaza doesn’t pose a threat to Israel in the future.”

The senior diplomat said the war would not end until all hostages were returned and Hamas’ capabilities were “dismantled,” accusing the Palestinian militant group of using “endless negotiations… as a means to stall for time.”

Her comments came after 14 of the 15 UNSC council members voted in favor of Monday’s US-drafted resolution, with only Russia abstaining – the first time the council has endorsed such a plan to end the war. Israel is not a member of the UNSC, and so did not vote.

"Stick around for the Rapture".
Gotta admit, that would be fun to watch.
Supposedly, 1000 years of strife, pestilence, disease, and death would follow here on earth.
Sounds more like projection to me.
Imagine, a world of peace and coexistence without those assholes around anymore.
We could dream can't we?

give them away. Oh well, better get used to it.

Hi all, Hey E1,

I always liked the climatalogical summer, as per Farmer's Almanac. Since June, July, and August do best frame 'summer', for much of the country. Yeah astronomical summer starts at solstice, the 'longest day' about three weeks into June. In south Texas summer can start in March! Smile

I send squirrels away here too, but to heaven. In current place, over 300 in 10 years. Lost count. It's uh, nuts. They just keep coming. They are major bird nest predators all summer.

Good on ya fer helpin' the youngins! With the over-inflated tuitions, 50K of credit ain't what it sounds like.

Thanks for the OT~

happy trails all!

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
