Friday Night Photos More Birds Edition
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
The bird watching group I belong to meets once a month. These photos are from both this month's and last month's meeting. Last month we met at Mast Park in Santee. The park is a narrow strip of natural riparian environment that runs alongside the San Diego river. This month we met at Harry Griffen Park in La Mesa. A typical man made and maintained city park with one corner left unlandscaped and with it's native vegetation. Even though the parks are about five miles apart and are very different environments, most of the birds we saw were the same at both parks. Our group leader heard there was a rare sighting of a Baltimore Oriole at Harry Griffen Park recently. If one was there, we didn't see it.

Outstanding bird photos as always SP! Great shots! Beautiful Hooded Oriole. I think the penduline nest is either oriole or bushtit. I have seen Bushtit nests that were two feet long, bigger than an oriole's nest.
The Kingbird is a Western though, not a Cassin's. Note it has a bright white outer web to outer rectrix. That is, outer edge of outer tail feather is snow white. This is diagnostic for Western Kingbird. Also note the throat does not contrast strongly with the chest and breast on your bird, light ashy white to palest gray. On a Cassin's Kingbird the breast and chest are dark medium gray and the throat area is bright white, strongly contrasting with the rest of chest and breast. You can actually see the white throat contrasting with dark gray breast of a Cassin's further away than you can discern any differences in their tails.

Thanks for the correction on the Kingbird identification and for jogging my memory on thee nest builder I couldn't remember. It was a Bushtit nest according to our group leader.

I saw a hawk that hangs around actually sitting in one of our bird feeders preening. I alerted my wife who got some pics, so I took a few of our "bloom" to add to the collection and post as a sample of our spring. I forgot the redbud which is simply astounding right now, but such is life.

Yeah, that is a bird feeding tray to the Cooper's Hawk too. It's just another click up the food chain. That looks like a fat female.
Yer flowers look great! Ceonothus can smell heavenly! Often moths like it at night. There is even a Ceanothus Silk Moth! I have seen hummers go nuts on that Mexican Sage. Costa's love it. Great colorful green patch there!

Beautiful looking Coopers hawk. Looks like spring is blossoming all over your yard. I have a Calla Lily in my front walkway but I'm lucky if it produces one blossom a year. The African Iris right next to it on the other hand blossoms like crazy.

Hi all,
Had to dig deep, but came up with something... Except the Nashville Warbler, the rest were taken in 15 minutes last Sunday whence a bird bathing frenzy struck our bath. Actually photo'd 12 species in 15 minutes without taking a step. Bath is in shade and was overcast so too dark, but nabbed some head crops anyway.

Good laff, humphrey. Is that bird a crow or magpie? I'm no bird expert. Sp, your technique is improving from the first shots I saw when I started visiting this diary. I can see it visually. Where's janis b? I always look for her work. el, I LOVE all lilies. They're a very popular flower here in the Numbnuts Sandbar Peninsula State. Dys never disappoints, too. Welp, getting set to head out to do some GOTV volunteering shortly. Clear skies today but we're into summer-90s/heat index time. UGH!! And here comes our "favorite": storm season.

We remain non-partisan. The goal is getting people registered to vote cos it's imperative and counts. Good news: the vast majority of folks visiting our Earth Day Fest are registered. That includes plenty of young folk, and they are voting. I really enjoy doing this stuff, but I gotta tell ya: it was HOT!

I too was taken with the fine pink lines. I also like the silky and sateny texture of the flower, which is a wonderful feature of most flowers when you look closely. For that, the camera helps. I also really enjoyed seeing your birds heads close up.

I was surprised the nest were at eye level. Most of the nest I see are much higher.
