Friday Night Photos Travelogue Pt3 Edition
Welcome to Friday Night Photos everyone. Your once a week break from the daily madness of the crazy world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music, or whatever else you find of interest that helps you escape the madness.
One of my stops while traveling was at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose. The museum is sometimes referred to as the mummy museum since it is devoted to ancient Egypt. Items on display are a mix of ancient Egyptian artifacts and more modern art depicting Egyptian rulers, deities, and Egyptian life.
North side of the building and meditation garden. The museum was constructed in ancient Egyptian architectural style.
Wall art inside a replica of a rock cut tomb burial chamber.
Gilt Funerary Mask. These masks were placed over the head of the deceased when buried. The gilt on this mask indicates the person was a noble.
Rameses II. He reigned for sixty seven years, lived to the age of ninety six and fathered ninety six sons and sixty daughters from about 200 wives and concubines.
Before there was paper there was Papyrus.
Precursor to the maternity ward. The Birthing Room.
Coffin Mask. Similar to the funerary mask, these were placed on the coffin of the deceased.
Statue of Sekhmet, a female deity of healing.

Great photos as usual

I started liking all things Egyptian while watching Stargate and the spin-off series Stargate SG-1. A long time ago on earth a parasitic creature inhabited humans in Egypt and declared themselves gawds. The stargate was a wormhole between gates on planets scattered across the universe…one of my favorite shows.
How old is the mummy? I’d think he would be more decayed than that, but he had great teeth!
Hi, snoopy
I loved Stargate and the spinoff series, SG-1 and Atlantis. It would be nice to have a stargate around here right about now. I'm ready to get off this world.
I'm sorry I don't know the age of the mummy. My bad for not taking a shot of the info plaque. If I remember correctly it's a female child.

Wouldn’t that be great?
I’d like to go to the planet that Jack got stuck on where life was much easier and more healthy. And beautiful.
Atlantis was 2nd best, but still a good show. Except for McKay. I don’t like whining, obnoxious characters.
They sure don’t make shows like that anymore.
We all want to live on that planet
What a shame we can't make Earth that planet.

@Socialprogressive The mummy died quite

I did notice
she has a lower front tooth missing. I wonder if the lost tooth happened before or after she died.

I grew up there, you know... :)
...San Jose, and, dare I say, that Museum. Looks like they've done a fair amount of redecorating since I was last there.
Being a prodigy who comes fully to grips with the nature of mortality (including one's own) at age 5, in a "diverse" family with a botched/conflicting/naive religious education, at a time when the Satanic Panic was underway side by side with the rise of Tim Burton, and add in a museum run by Alchemists where you get to see mummies at eye-level even if you're 3' tall, well, I imagine that would do interesting things to a person....

Yes Virginia, there is a Global Banking Conspiracy!
Hi, Moonbat
I grew up just a stones throw up the peninsula from you in Sunnyvale. I was about 10 the first time I went to the museum. The mummy is still at eye level if your over 5ft. I had to hold the camera over my head to get that shot looking down.
Since you mentioned alchemy, here's an alchemist workshop they had.

Nifty, but also a tad disappointing

Hi pixelators
Hi all,
Hey SP! GREAT photos of some very cool stuff. Neat to see up close and personal. And hard to shoot. Ya did good!
I just have time to toss up on quick pic.
A kiss you don't want is that of the 'kissing bug'.
They often bite on face. I call it a Reduviad, after the family name. The common name for these is a very sweet pleasant sounding Blood-sucking Conenose. From Mexico through central America and South America they carry Chaga's disease. Most U.S. cases annually are from immigrants from those areas. Though Chaga's has been found in dogs in my area. Their normal prey is rodents, particularly Packrats, but here I imagine Cotton Rats and White-footed Mouse. We find a couple a year in the house, which are removed and sent to heaven outside.
Thanks for the OT, SP!
happy trails all!
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Hi, dystopian
Blood-sucking Conenose is the name of my new band.
Thanks for the info on the Kissing bug. I donate blood regularly. One of the questions asked before you donate is Do you have Chagas desease? I'm guessing if you answer yes to that question you are declined from donating blood.

I was an absolute world history fanatic
on top of being a voracious reader from the time I was literally a little kid. That interest led me to politics. Love the pics, Sp. Also dystopian's "kissing" bug. Lethal little bugger. Well, storm season is coming to an end. Wish I could say the same about climate crisis, but I'll be dead before the worse hits (and it's coming folks). Hope you and everyone are well. Take care. Rec'd!!

Hi, obf
I wonder how long before climate change causes a year round storm season. We used to have a wild fire season but due to climate change, wild fire season is pretty much year round now.
