If so it is likely valuable. If it a dollar coin it is only worth face value.

Yes, it is a gold coin. It's value is based on it's weight and the purity of the gold.

A face worthy of being engraved on a coin. I don't know why we consider anyone an enemy. The world would be a better place if worked with other countries instead of against them.

Have you coined a new word with 'numismatics"?

I should have added, 'or done something generous' as you did for a friend.

wine enthusiasts have a nomenclature
like 'sommelier', coin experts use that term
to describe their particular fetish

per wiki -

First attested in English in 1829, the word numismatics comes from the adjective numismatic, meaning "of coins". It was borrowed in 1792 from French numismatique, itself a derivation from Late Latin numismatis, genitive of numisma, a variant of nomisma meaning "coin". Nomisma is a latinisation of the Greek νόμισμα (nomisma) which means "current coin/custom", which derives from νομίζειν (nomizein), "to hold or own as a custom or usage, to use customarily", in turn from νόμος (nomos), "usage, custom", ultimately from νέμειν (nemein), "to dispense, divide, assign, keep, hold".

Perhaps the original term steers more closely to the custom of striking metal
for the sake of representing a perceived value? Some time ago,
the light aluminum coins of Iceland floated.
Kinda messes up the wishing well concept.

In your hands it’s art!

The detail is stunning. I really got lost in the details in the robe, and all the objects around it.

Here's an older version, also beautiful. Has there ever been a time when money was not evil except when it was collected for it's beauty ; )

I didn't compute your question, and the date was clearly visible. By now you might have found the denomination - 1/2 dollar.

apparently coveted by wood turners, it is the only native timber on which a thread can be successfully turned.

A problem with Black Maire , as with many broadleaves, is that it appears to be a favoured
food sources for goats and deer so protection is essential.

Thanks!

@janis b Hi Janis! Your door looks very inviting to me. Smile

I would love to see that wood closeup, the grain especially. Those ironwoods can bend a mere mortal nail. Ironwood is often found in desert washes in SE Calif., Arizona, and likely well into Mexico. There are a few of those super dense woods that are indeed very hard to work. Like QMS says it will tear the teeth out of yer equipment fast... I love exotic woods, have known quite a few, when I was a wood worker.

be well, take care

@janis b Hi Janis, Wow! That is awesome wood! Beautiful grain. It is tight and dense, you can tell. Now if I could only feel it. I wonder what it smells like when milled? I love the smells of them and milling is the best way to get the scent. Thank you!

take care!

It still had a faint fragrance as it had been recently cut from old wood. I would describe it as woody and petrol-y. I too love the smell of freshly sawn wood. Every year I get a delivery of firewood, that for many weeks continues to release a fragrance, mostly from the Macrocarpa ( Monterey Cypress). I have been in houses here that have Macrocarpa panelling in the interior which still releases its beautiful fragrance years and years later. Fresh mulch also does the trick.

Hi all, Hey SP!

Great photos SSP! Nice coinage. I won't call them money shots. Getting good close-ups is hard to do. Great work man! I am a philatelist, not a numismatist, but have a few scarce coins. Stamps weighed less.

be well all!

I gotta fly, but here is a quick one...

Tricolored Blackbird, male
trike.jpg

A cousin to the Red-winged, but mostly endemic to CA only. A couple small groups are in OR, but 98% of them live in California. It is crashing and in serious trouble. In 73 I counted 4000 at a roost at my beloved Harbor Pk. on the Palos Verdes Peninsula Christmas Bird Count. They no longer occur there. Oh there are thousands... does not mean a dang thing. Rinse and repeat all over the state. The red wing idden here is more carmine red than the tomato red of a Red-wing. The pale bar under it is whitish on Tricolored Blackbird, yellow on Red-winged. This black is a glossier blue color than black of Red-winged.

Hope all are well and having good ones!

edit - changed some 9's to zeroes and a dollar sign to a percentage symbol. sorry folks...

isn't the evil root. Uncontrollable human greed is, and what a curse!! Did you enter your photo contest, jb? Your wood picture is an interesting study. Orlando hosted the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Marathon Running yesterday. Part of the route was a block from my house. So, I walked over and watched some of it. Perfect weather except just a tad warm if you're running 26-plus miles. A positive event to witness--what a welcomed change!! Smile Rec'd on the always excellent photos, you all. Smile

My oldest daughter likes to run in marathons. She's done the New York Marathon numerous times. I'm not sure but I think she has also run the Boston Marathon. Here in San Diego we have the Rock N Roll Marathon every June that draws over 10000 participants. I don't go anywhere near downtown that weekend.

I will let you know after the exhibition in March, what the response was. It's not a contest, but an exhibition of many local artists. It makes sense that there are many artists in this small local community because of the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Stay cool
