The Years Just Flow By Like a Broken Down Dam

Open Thread Image.jpg

From John Prine's song Angel from Montgomery
We're all caught in the ebb and flow of time as the years come and go. The month of January is named for the Roman God Janus who looks forward toward the future and back at the past. His image often appeared on doorways, arches, and gates. This time of year is a good opportunity to look at what has happened, and think about what will come.

Neil offers his New Year's rant...

‘…so here’s my prediction, 2024 is going to be quite something and not at all what the anti-human clowns expect!’
I hope he's correct that the people have learned from the scamdemic and won't be manipulated like that again. However, as the quote attributed incorrectly to Albert suggests, Human Stupidity is Infinite.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe!

I was talking to an acquaintance at a Christmas party who accused Tucker of being a Putinist. I said, "Well, I guess I am too, after all the US engineered the Maidan coup to install a pro-western president."
He replied, "No, it was an organic revolution from the people." I suggested he watch "Ukraine on Fire", Oliver Stone's excellent documentary on Rumble. My bet is he won't, sticking to his propaganda filled perception.
Like another misattributed quote, “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they’ve been fooled”.
Jeffery Sachs was on Dialogue Works this week explaining the background of the Ukraine proxy war with Russia. Ukraine War Primer | Jeffrey Sachs (1 hour) Nima had this note under the clip: This video was removed from my YouTube channel because of a false claim of copyright. Some people didn't like it, so they claimed that this video was stolen from them to stop it from being watched! This was one of the most ridiculous issues that I've ever dealt with in my entire life. After sending a counter-notification to YouTube, I finally got it back.

Color revolutions are the modus operandi of The National Endowment for Democracy and all their various NGO's. It is the way we depose leaders who serve their people instead of the US. The Duran discusses the Failed Color Revolution in Serbia (14 min) that happened just last week.
The US pushes these uprisings all over the world.
"...power does its work by stealth, and the powerful can subsequently deny that their strength was ever used at all." Salman Rushdie, Shalimar the Clown (2005)

PROF. MICHAEL HUDSON, WORLD PREDICTIONS FOR 2024 (USA, UN, PALESTINE, RUSSIA AND BRICS) 1 hour Michael's website here.
The entire interview is good but if you don't have time try to catch the last 15-20 min. He also discusses color revolutions early on in the clip.

TPTB plan to exert ever more control over we the people as well as over other countries.
Wall Street Is Coming For Your Digital Money! -With Whitney Webb (24 min)

Jimmy interviews security expert and writer Whitney Webb about the prospects for a centralized digital currency and why Wall Street would prefer to force a currency controlled by the banks rather than a decentralized version like Bitcoin.
Whitney always provides insights. In this interview she discusses the likelihood of false flag cyberattacks on the banks as a ruse to instigate a digital currency on us all. She suggests it won't be the Fed who creates the CBDC, but Wall Street Banks because the Fed would need to value one coin at one dollar, but banks will use fractional reserve like they do with our account deposits... meaning that a one dollar digital coin will only have 10 cents of backing. Another banking scam on the way? We'll see.

Leave The World Behind and Build a New One with Whitney Webb. In this hour interview, Whitney rehashes much of the material she discusses with Jimmy with some additional methods of ever more digital (AI) control. She suggest it is time to create our own platforms much like JtC has done here.
No doubt we should expect more censorship and cancelling next year. The west is all about narrative creation and control as evidenced by my Christmas party conversation about Ukraine.

Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order (5-minute Version) by Ray Dalio

The world is changing in big ways that haven’t happened before in our lifetimes but have many times in history, so I studied past changes to understand what is happening now and anticipate what is likely to happen. (44 min version here)

Carl Zha talks with Danny Haiphong @geopoliticshaiphong and Ben Norton @GeopoliticalEconomyReport about China and Vietnam as US tries to destabilize Asia.

Max Blumenthal speaks with the Judge about the situation in Gaza and Israel.

Join investigative journalist Max Blumenthal and me as we peel back the layers of one of the most contentious issues in modern geopolitics: the Israeli Defense Forces' alleged human rights violations against Palestinians. Max, with his sharp analytical skills, unveils the chilling realities of Gaza, including accounts of torture and claims of organ theft, that stir a profound reaction internationally. Our candid conversation probes into the heart of these accusations, the difficulties faced in reporting such incidents, and the psychological impact they have on all involved—from the Palestinian community to the Israeli soldiers caught in the cycle of violence. These narratives weave a complex tapestry of suffering and societal perceptions that are rarely brought to light.

The discussion takes an even darker turn as we examine the targeting of journalists in Gaza, an issue that has captured global headlines and elicited responses from political figures such as U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken. This episode does not shy away from hard truths, dissecting the intertwining of U.S.-Israel relations and the military strategies that shape the conflict. From scrutinizing the most recent military deals to interpreting Prime Minister Netanyahu's strategic maneuvers, we lay bare the multifaceted nature of warfare and diplomacy. Closing on a note of international jurisprudence, we explore South Africa's unprecedented steps toward seeking justice at the International Court of Justice, presenting a glimmer of hope for accountability amidst the turmoil.

South Africa Invokes Genocide Convention Against Israel
South Africa has invoked the Genocide Convention against Israel in a statement that accuses the nation of violating its obligations under the 1948 treaty. The appeal to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) asks to issue measures to stop Israel’s attack on Palestinians in Gaza.

How The Hell Did We Get Here?
Caitlin Johnstone (h/t QMS)

We could have been so much more. We have the ability to create a healthy and harmonious world and collaborate to give everyone on earth everything they need, and instead we’re killing the biosphere while arguing about whether or not it’s anti-semitic to oppose an active genocide.
We could have peace on earth and move from competition-based systems to collaboration-based ones to maximize our creative and innovative potential and spend our existence exploring the outer universe and the universes within ourselves, and instead we’re ramping up brinkmanship between nuclear-armed states and arguing about whether or not it’s ethical to rain military explosives on a giant concentration camp full of children.
...
So here we are. That’s why we now find ourselves in this profoundly dysfunctional civilization where the biosphere is treated like an enemy and human beings are treated like fuel and minds are being marinated in an increasingly vapid mainstream culture where everything is fake and stupid. That’s why we don’t have paradise on earth, and that’s why the bombs are falling on Gaza today.

We still could create a better world, but first we must rid ourselves of the globalist class who intend to rule over us.

Hard Times Come Again No More is an American parlor song written by Stephen Foster.
Written in 1854, it was likely inspired by the growing political divisions and rising tensions in the United States at the time; the issue of slavery was poised to rip the nation apart in the Civil War, and the nation’s economy was rapidly transforming thanks to the rise of factories in the North and growing infrastructure. The nation would soon find itself falling on hard times if ever there were hard times.
The song survives to the present day as a folk song, as does much of Foster’s work.

The New Year's Eve song, explained (6.5 min)
Auld Lang Syne -Dougie MacLean (With Lyrics-English Translation)

Auld Lang Syne has stayed in our collective consciousness for over 200 years because it is about connection with others. The kind of connection that binds you to someone forever: loyalty, friendship, kindness, love; even though that person might not be with you anymore. Auld Lang Syne is also about the human spirit’s ability to hope for the future while enduring rough times by remembering the precious human attributes of friendship, connection with our fellow humans, kindness, and love.
So my Friends take a cup of kindness and have a wonderful 2024.

As we've discussed several times, the hope is with the BRICS+ cooperative model instead of the Western war based economy model.
The other hopeful aspect rarely mentioned is a focus on nature and our place in the biosphere. There are ways we could produce food and improve the system. At the same time there's plenty of jobs in both the conversion to sustainable agriculture and the production of food, forests, etc.
Unfortunately it isn't a priority, and in the west would even be suppressed to maintain big foods profit which feeds junk food which makes people sick filling big pharmas coffers too.

Here's hoping we all get more exposure to nature in the coming year. In fact my sister is visiting and we're getting out on the mountain to appreciate what it has to offer later today.

Thanks for coming by! Have a good day.

@snoopydawg
Thanks for the news. We lost another treasure.

He has done great work since Vietnam. Here's what I think is his latest 2 hour documentary

The Coming War on China?

The Coming War on China, from award winning journalist John Pilger, reveals what the news doesn’t – that the world’s greatest military power, the United States, and the world’s second economic power, China, both nuclear-armed, may well be on the road to war.

Nuclear war is not only imaginable but planned. The greatest build-up of NATO military forces since the Second World War is under way on the western borders of Russia. On the other side of the world, the rise of China is viewed in Washington as a threat to American dominance.

To counter this, President Obama announced a ‘pivot to Asia’, which meant that almost two-thirds of all US naval forces would be transferred to Asia and the Pacific, their weapons aimed at China. A policy which has been taken up by his successor Donald Trump, who during his election campaign said “We can’t continue to allow China to rape our country and that’s what they’re doing”.

Filmed on five possible front-lines across Asia and the Pacific over two years, the 2016 documentary is told in chapters that connect a secret and ‘forgotten’ past to the rapacious actions of great power today and to a resistance, of which little is known in the West.

They already get cellphones and debit cards with who knows how much money each month and now they are being flown to wherever they want after illegally crossing the border. Anyone who doesn’t present themselves at the border crossing should be expelled from the country.

But this is being funded by government NGOs and guess who is spending lots of money on them? I read that Obama is one who is involved in the caravans and Bush too. And this was one of the reasons for the jab mandate. Fire health care workers for not getting jabbed and they will be replaced with foreign healthcare workers. Guv if NYC admitted that a few years ago.

@snoopydawg this is a way for the illegals/migrants/refugees to be given voting rights to guarantee Biden wins the election, but I think that is a very superficial assessment. It is way more significan than a single election.
It doesn't take but a few minutes to read up that the i/m/rs get way, way more government assistance than American citizens who have paid taxes, obeyed the law, served in the military, or worked in government agencies, such as the post office. I had thought it was to destroy labor and wages as we know them, but I think it goes way farther. I/m/rs seem to have more value, more rights to live long, than born and bred Usians do. They are important to someone, or something, and we are not.

promoting migration. Durbin announced in congress the other week the young men migrating in could serve in the military (since like Ukraine we can't find enough recruits) in order to gain citizenship. Many are coming from China.

That companies import to take American jobs so that wages stay low. I remember Kamala sponsoring a bill to let 300,000 foreigners in to take American jobs and it passed with bipartisan support.

There have been more than 10 million immigrants who have come here without stopping at border control that just get lots of goodies from the government and then they go on their merry way and maybe in a decade they will have to report to court. But by then they will have anchor babies and get to stay regardless. My views on immigration have changed since Biden got elected.

...reminded me of a Kevin Phillips' book I read some years ago, along with a couple of others. He presented the rise and fall of western empires in the modern era in sequence, and attempted to develop a thesis about preventing the projected US decline by adopting more rational policies. I pretty sure this was in Wealth and Democracy, twenty years ago. I know he was a conservative political advisor, but his analysis evolved somewhat. I think it went Spain, Netherlands, England, US. There is also the Thucydides Trap which more recently was cited almost as much as the expression "bombshell."

The Carl Zha video was brilliant. I watched the last twenty minutes or so of Michael Hudson's interview above. I've been watching his videos regularly and find them worthwhile. I disagree with one point he made, that "Stalin browbeat Mao" into entering the Korean War. Historically, whenever Chinese forces entered a Korean conflict it was always to defend what they perceived as their security interests against challenges. Mao wasn't browbeaten into anything. Sometimes such interventions prove to be failures, such as the first Sino-Japanese war in the modern era which led to the Japanese domination of the peninsula until August 1945 along with their colonization of Taiwan. The Chinese intervention in the Korean conflict was to prevent the US from moving its military right up to the Chinese frontier. MacArthur was warned and he ignored the warnings. So he forced the Chinese hand. IF Stone said that MacArthur hoped to renew the communist- KMT war at the same time, but that didn't materialize. Neither Truman nor Eisenhour were inclined to expand the conflict further.

I had been anticipating a Cyrus Janssen video with a more concise evaluation of Chinese economic prospects for some time, because of his business background. Sometimes I want to post his videos but don't because of obnoxious commercials he presents. This is an economic analysis of Chinese economic conditions in this video below-

If the Chinese economy and society were about to collapse as so often projected why all the US military deployments and bases surrounding China and other "preparations for war with China?" Whenever Brian Berletic looks at trade numbers of peripheral states with China, it consistently appears as the number one trade partner.

Really enjoyed (if that is the right word) the Auld Lang Syne translation. I think that's the first time I really understood all the meaning. No wonder it's such a classic- very moving. Thanks for the OT Lookout.

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/maersk-delays-red-sea-transits-again-after-s...

(Bloomberg) -- A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S will delay transits in the Red Sea for 48 hours after one of its container ships was attacked twice in the waters in under a day.

The Maersk Hangzhou suffered the attacks near Yemen while traveling from Singapore to Port Suez in Egypt, the company said Sunday. The vessel was hit by an unknown object in an initial strike on Saturday night and was then later targeted again when four boats fired on the vessel in an attempt to board, according to the company.

The US said the attacks were by Iranian-backed Houthis. It shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles launched by the rebels on Saturday. In the Sunday attack, its Navy helicopters took fire and responded by sinking three of the four boats manned by Houthi rebels and killed the crew onboard, according to a US Central Command post on X.

Maersk only recently starting sailing through the waterway again after diverting its ships to Africa. It said its crew on Maersk Hangzhou are safe and the ship has resumed its transit north.

“Maersk is currently working to ascertain the full details of the incident and is in close dialogues” with authorities to assess the security level in the area, according to an e-mailed statement.

@Lookout Hi LO,

Yeah if people watched nature closely, the conversation on climate change would be completely different. The flowers at elevation in the Rockies blooming 18 days earlier than they used to in the 70's. Boobies, considered tropical and barely subtropical birds are being recorded off British Columbia and in the Gulf of Alaska! They can't find 5 billion king crabs FFS! Stop me anytime...

We only have one Ruby-crowned Kinglet around this winter, normally there are many. No waxwings save one day a small flock. No Robin, and so on ad. infinitum. What they call a big migration fallout nowadays is nothing compared to 50 years ago. Trees dropping like flies as desertification sets in here. Trees that lived through the 'worst ever' (until lately) ten-year drought of the 50's in Texas.

You can only remove so many pieces of the puzzle before it is no longer a puzzle. Intelligent tinkering requires saving all the parts.

Be well amigo!

That's the first I've ever heard of a 'bed potato', what a funny image. Have fun.

GD neighbors are shooting off fireworks that are making loud BOOMS! It’s been going on for 2 hours and it’s not even midnight yet. I can’t wait for the day Utah bans all fireworks like other sane states have. I wonder if people ever think about how dawgs react to them?

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

This is an update on my OT Friday where I mentioned I gave her my tickets to see the Mavericks in Gruene Hall, Texas.
Earlier today, she strolled around the town, met people from all over the country who came there for the history. This evening, she was at the renown dance hall, saw the Mavericks, said it was the best time ever!!! (Her number of exclamation marks)
If she managed to get some videos, I will share them.

@Lookout been interested in much music outside the scope of 80s rock. She has no education in history beyond what public school taught.
I may retire in 2 or 3 years, and her time with me might amount to 6 or so years, but it will always be a game changer for her and her kids.

Ripple - Grateful Dead cover by Toni Lindgren

Learned this tune for a friend's wedding recently and thought it'd be a good one to record while I was passing through Tahoe on the way back home. Messed up a little bit on the last verse, but it's real, y'know? Shoutout to Fallen Leaf Lake for being an absolute beauty and making the sunset look extra nice, and Elle for shooting this one for me.
—Toni

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

[Pre-Chorus 1]
It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they're better left unsung
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air

[Chorus]
Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

[Verse 2]
Reach out your hand, if your cup be empty
If your cup is full, may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

[Pre-Chorus 2]
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone
You might also like
making the bed

[Chorus]
Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

[Verse 3]
You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home

“Ripple” is the sixth song on the Grateful Dead album American Beauty. It was released as the B-side to the single “Truckin'”.

Robert Hunter wrote this song in 1970 in London in the same afternoon he wrote “Brokedown Palace” and “To Lay Me Down” (reputedly also drinking half a bottle of retsina in the process).

The song debuted August 18, 1970 at Fillmore West in San Francisco. Jerry Garcia wrote the music to this song.
