#4.1 Yeah, everything was lip-synched in those days. Most of the music vids from TV in the 60's are such. Only the biggest most powerful could insist on playing it themselves live as a rule then. There is a great vid I forget which song, of Jefferson Airplane doing this, maybe Somebody to Love. But Jack Cassady on bass to make fun of it and show his contempt, wrapped his guitar cord/plug all around the neck a few times, just to make sure everyone knew. ROFL.

The leaves of the Mulberry tree are hosts to silk worms. ‘Mulberry’ silk is the most luxurious silk I have ever felt.

This was an industry that ran throughout the south of France, from Lyons southwards and across the north of Italy. When the postman delivered a batch of silkworm eggs, the Madame of the household would keep them safely incubated in a pouch on her bosom. This meant that most of the income of the household was entrusted to Madam’s bosom, so she had to be careful!

As the caterpillars hatched, they would be put onto fresh mulberry leaves and would immediately start eating. The noise made by thousands of munching caterpillars could sound like falling rain. The leaves were laid out in each room on big beds made of split cane. Each room would have perhaps 6-8 beds from floor to roof, the beds being open with no sides or cover as the caterpillars do not go anywhere. There would be a narrow row down the middle of the room between the tiers of beds, so that they could be supplied with mulberry leaves.

I'd like to taste fresh mulberries. It looks like the only way is to grow your own or know someone who has one. I did discover that I can buy them dried.

I have no idea about any relation between Mulberry and silk. Please enlighten me. I do remember something about the 'ring around the Mulberry bush/tree', a childhood rhyme. The fruit are off the charts delicious. There are male, female, and bisexual trees. The one in our yard is a male so all we get is pollen, by the tons for a week or so. Those in the park/photos are females, you will find me there the first week of May. If you want to know all the birds in an acre or five, just watch the fruiting Mulberry tree. Late April to mid-May is prime time for fruit. The winter Cedar Waxwings leave in May when the last Mulberry is eaten.

Wow, thanks for that! We do not have a worm issue here, I have never seen it or heard of it. Wonder what it is eating them? Most of what folks call 'worms' in trees are moth caterpillars of various sorts. Just think of all the protein in them!

#6.2 We once had Mulberry trees at our county courthouse. We kids would go to the building on weekends, climb up stars, grab berries from low limbs, eat a few. Then, my parents said not to eat them due to worms. ? I then grabbed one, held the ends in each hand, then pushed my hands together to squish the berry. White worms came out of every part of the berry, and I had as many worms in my hand as juice. Once I realized I had been eating berry flavored worms, I lost the taste for them.

My parents left CT for the sandbar as soon as they retired. Same with my brother and his wife, who live in Boynton Beach.

#7.2 Not just crazy boaters, jb, but nutcase swimmers. They don't get rip currents and dangerous surf. The amateur surfers are the worse. Local newsfotainment is always reporting drownings and shark attacks on these mental fruitloops. Hel-lo, where's your common sense, you yahoos?? jb,I know you have family here.
