Album of the Week 11-25-23

Afternoon folks!

I hope that you're all having a great, long fall weekend. This week we've got a blues album from Little Milton in I suppose the middle part of his career when he was recording for Chess records. After that we've got some live zydeco from Queen Ida. Then there's a bunch of blues rock - a double album compilation of early Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer, followed by a live album from Foghat. Then we go acoustic with a double live album from Doc & Merle Watson and we finish up with a change of pace - an album by Ghanaian musicians Osibisa.

Enjoy and have a great weekend folks!

Here 'tis:

Little Milton - Sings Big Blues

Queen Ida And Her Zydeco Band - In San Francisco

Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman

Foghat - Live

Doc Watson Featuring Merle Watson - Doc Watson On Stage

Osibisa - Heads

a country-dance or dancing party held usually on a Saturday night in southern Louisiana.
In contemporary Louisiana parlance, refers to a public dance of some sort usually involving an accordion and fiddle-led band and lyrics sung in vernacular Louisiana French. The
Cajun/Creole two-step or waltz has similarities to country western calls like do-si-do.

great variety joe!

@QMS @QMS we wanted him to sleep as baby..
(we were influenced by the French 'ecole maternelle' of the French 'Besatzungskräfte' in the 1973 in Berlin in Germany).

@orlbucfan

osibisa's early albums had great cover art. most of them were done by roger dead who also did the artwork for yes albums. this cover art was done by mati klarwein who did a lot of album covers that you'd recognize including santana's abraxas album and miles davis' bitches brew.

have a great weekend!

@joe shikspack the Santana, and Miles Davis' covers (and music) you're referring to, joe. Album cover art really was awesome back then. Not so sure about today.

@orlbucfan

i blame the rise of the cd format for the demise of album cover art. the size of the cd just isn't big enough.

Hey Joe,

Great sounds man. That Osibisa is good, cool sheet mon.

Always chuckle when I see albums I have here, this weeks is the Peter Green double. It was a great compilation with the first UK and 2nd US albums on it. I got it right after it came out, and it seemed very overlooked to me. I thought it was fantastic! Very under-appreciated.

Thanks for the sounds!

@dystopian

yep, i picked up the album back in the day because it was a bargain. i wanted all of those albums and that compilation was the cheapest way to get them.
