~~ Animation

It is National Animation Day

Da Wiki says:

Animation is a filmmaking technique by which still images are manipulated to create moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets (cels) to be photographed and exhibited on film. Animation has been recognized as an artistic medium, specifically within the entertainment industry. Many animations are computer animations made with computer-generated imagery (CGI). Stop motion animation, in particular claymation, has continued to exist alongside these other forms.

You have to look elsewhere to find that there is an adjective, animated, which means: : full of movement and activity. an animated crowd. c. : full of vigor and spirit : lively. an animated discussion. If I recall correctly, one could once speak or behave with great animation, but I'm not going to try to chase that usage down. It is strange that one would have to

It is also Separation of church and State Day,, but we all know that the Separation of church and State is a complete myth in the US, so I'm not going to waste any time on it.

On this day in history:

-

On October 28, 1453, Ladislaus the Posthumous was crowned king of Bohemia in Prague. Not really any big deal, it is just that folks named "the Posthumous" while living tend to get my attention. I mean, when they die are they then post-posthumous. Anyway, his brief 17 year life as royal/imperial at birth is as full of skullduggery and such as one might imagine of one borh son of a recently deceased powerful Habsburg monarch.

-

On October 28, 1492, Christopher Columbus landed in Cuba, thinking it was Japan, alas. A horrible person who did horrible things, promoted horrible things, and left a horrible legacy. His myth is far vaster than he was in reality, starting with his egregious misconceptions about the diameter of the earth. A buffoon, but an evil one.

-

On October 28, 1538, The Universidad Santo Tomás de Aquino was founded in what became the Dominican Republic.

-

On October 28, 1636, The Massachusetts Bay Colony voted to have a theological college, which eventually become Harvard.

-

On October 28, 1867, 1893 – Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique" was premièred. Unfortunately, as to the composer, it was 9 days posthumous.

-

On October 28, 1919 Congress passed the Volstead Act with horrible repercussions that should've served as a warning so sane persons to not go and declare a "war on drugs." Sadly, no rational people were involved in the latter decision nor in its perpetuation to this day.

-

On October 28, 1922 Mussolini's Fascists marched on Rome and otok over Italy's government. Ours, less flamboyant and overt, quietly and slowly insinuated themselves into positions of control and power.

-

On October 28, 1967, 1962 Khrushchev ordered the removal of Soviet missiles from Cuba.

It was one of the few good things I can recall from my misspent academic career: I was involved in the committee that booked outside lecturers to come through and give talks at my college. One of the perks of doing the work was that you got to have dinner with the speaker, and on the committee's dime.

My great regret from that period is that I couldn't attend the dinner when we had Chuck Jones in. Several of the people left with cels as a gift...

Hi all, Hey EL,

Hope all is well out there!

Apparently I lost a post in the ether...

Thanks for the great history and awesome sounds! Love that Baby Huey Monkey Man!

Since the revision of White-eyes, we now have Swinhoe's White-eye in LA, and they sound common. It was Oriental or Japanese White-eye before. USDA has given up eradicating them.

Last week there was what will likely be a first record for the continental U.S. of a Swinhoe's Storm-Petrel in the inside passage just off Juneau Alaska. Might a Gulf of Alaska record way out in western part. It is a bird of the western Pacific. Incredible in the inside passage.

As an idealist I will go back to dreaming of actual separation of church and state.

Thanks for the OT EL!

happy trails all!

I have had a custody case fall apart, and I am animated about telling my client he can give up the fight or get another attorney who can make up shit out of thin air.
Thanks for the OT and the reminder that Columbus was an evil fucker, lest we forget.
Take care, dear friend!

@on the cusp Logic and reason are now anachronisms. Civil cases don't settle anymore because people only believe their feelings. It's a terrible time to be a lawyer.

@Bring Back Civics be used as a sledge hammer for one party to beat up the other party. Court is the wrong place to get even. It is the place to prove your point.
When custody of kids is concerned, it is all about presenting the case that you are the one that can best see to their best interests.
I am not a tool.
I don't give a fuck if your ex cheated on you.

It is amazing the number who expect their attorneys to lie for them. Possibly there are a lot of attorneys who will, helping to foster said confusion. I personally never met any such, but did encounter plenty who were pretty damn devious.
