Can of worms

Good morning everybody. Weather is easing up a bit for a few days here in the PNW, so time to get some more chores done.
Granddaughter is hosting the family for Thanksgiving dinner for the first time and it frees us up to plan for and ready the motorhome for a trip south to the California coast soon after.
We really need to get away to reflect and refocus on a year of sad happenings.
But I should be able to host the Tuesday OT from on the road via my smarty phone.
Just waking up to the news day so not sure what's going on in the world.
Did Iceland blow yet? California route 10 gonna open again? Are all of our navy ships still floating off the coast of Israel?
The thread is open, what ya got?

Sounds like a road trip will do you good
Getting away is something to focus on.
Good luck with the transport coach.
Cold, clear and breezy here.
Thanks for hosting!
question everything
Thanks, QMS
Not a lot to do on the rig 'cept change the coach battery. I keep it stocked with food, fuel, water, and such as a bug out vehicle. Always ready to go.

Good morning Sima. As of yesterday an offshore storm
was supposed to track down through NorCal and dump 2" of rain on the Bay Area today through Saturday. It isn't raining today. Latest is about one inch divvied between Wed, Fri and Sat. Dunno about further North.
Only news I've seen about I-10 is that they think it was arson and they are begging people to stay home and not drive anywhere.
there is some probably bogus news from the Ukies accusing some folks of treasonously planting Rus disinformation about the Biden gang to influence the last election. I'm sure they made the accusations, but I'm also pretty confident that the accusations are BS. This is the second piece of "info" serving the US establishment's narrative propaganda in 2 days. Presumably the Ukies are getting hammered on the ground and/or their gummit is fracturing so they're kissing ass and praying for rain.
Don't got much, continue to be muy busy here.

Just read up
on the I-10 closure. Turns out it is the Santa Monica freeway that was closed, the one that is bumper to bumper 24/7 under normal traffic conditions. City streets are the only option around it. What a mess.
On the Ukie thing, I suspect it's not disinformation.
Consider that Russia has assets in Ukraine, the most corrupt country in the world.
Biden and son have had extensive business dealings with 404.
It only makes sense Russia would expose the Biden regime as corrupt and self serving in light of the constant demonization of Russia/Putin.
Biden getting a taste of his own medicine.
And 404 is getting hammered in the field while it's regime is seeing attrition also.
Zelensky character is soon to be written out of the script.
Thanks for stopping by.

Sounds about right to me!

Good morning, e1!
Good you are off the hook for the Thanksgiving cook. We haven't quite decided what our big deal meal will be, but it just might be hamburgers.
I am so glad you can take a nice road trip, have some quiet time to reflect and remember. Do your best to find happy memories.
When I opened up my computer screen, Google news featured the tens of thousands marching in DC (? I think DC) in support of Israel. We sure have more bloodthirsty genociders in the US than I realized.
It is a bit colder here today than I expected. Oh well, I will be indoors mostly.
Check in when you pull over at the rest areas, let us know your progress.
Thanks for the OT, friend.

I think
we are having ham for T-dinner. I don't really care as long as there is jellied cranberries. I'm the only one in the whole family that likes it, don't know why. But I'd better bring my own can.
Will ck in as we go. We probably will not go down beyond Morro Bay, but depending on the weather, we may go around LA and on down to Anza Borrego.
Have a good day.

I used to make this elaborate
I hate turkey, usually substitute chicken, ham, or roast beef. We will be at a vacation cottage, and are more interested in easy, stress free meals.
I sure hope the traffic isn't awful. Thing is, when they close one main thoroughfare, it just clogs up other ones.

Heh, I hate turkey too!
We are having chicken. I just can't stand the taste of turkey, dunno why. Love dressing and cranberry sauce/jelly though!

From Morro Bay take 41 to 46 to 99 to 58 OR
just take 58 (or 41 to 101 to 58) over the Tehachipi's. We always used to overnight at Orange Grove on Edison Road off of 58. We'd run out to Barstow and then head south, mostly on 247, but you can take 14 thru Lancaster etc. down to 247, but that'll run you into LA traffic almost for sure. Anyway, 247 to 62 takes you to 15 outside of Palm Springs, then 111 or 15 to 111 to 86 to S22 takes you right into "downtown" Borrego Springs and the Palm Canyon State Park Campground. I could almost make that run in my sleep.

We typically
go thru Tehachipi/138/Apple Valley and hit Joshua Tree on the way. Apple Valley (the town) has grown so big.
Thanks for the tip on Edison Rd. Good place to let the rig cool off before the big climb over the Tehachipis. Windmills are cool.

Heh, the Barstow - 247 route takes you straight into 29 Palms,
and we have cut thru J-Tree once or twice, but usually duck it. I guess 138 out of Apple Valley will take you thru Lucerne Valley and maybe put you on 247 there? We, for a while, did the Tehachipi to Kramer Junction (4 corners) and 395 to Apple Valley but getting out of Apple Valley with the right orientation was all futzed up there where 15 came thru and the truck traffic on 395 was a PITA so we decided to shift around it.
How do you get to Morro Bay?

We will start
@ Redwood Highway in Southern Oregon and cut off 101 near Monterey, Ca. and pick up Highway 1.
Yeah, long and winding road but incredibly beautiful scenery.
Have never tried going thru Barstow but will give it a try. Gets me to the same place.

Never did that stretch of road towing, now that we
stay in hotels and motels we sometimes take it on the way home, especially from Cambria, since that will put us in a position to lunch at Nepenthe should we so choose. Don't think I'd like to try parking there in anything bigger than a pick-up, though.

I discovered years ago
you can park overnight at any pullout along the coast as long as there aren't any "no parking signs". Shhhh, small secret.

Interstate 10 closed?
Oh, I see. This happened in the industrial portion of Los Angeles.
That portion of the freeway is clogged during most business hours. "Find other routes." Uh-huh.
I suppose it would be nice if the Feds stepped in and used some of their dollar-printing abilities to provide LA with high-quality mass transit. Oh, right, they have laundry to do.

I never take that stretch of road unless I have a destination
on it. Heading south and east it is far quicker and less stressful to hang a left at Ventura and run up through Fillmore to Santa Clarita and then run down 5 to 210 to something like 15 or 215 depending on destination. Heck, there's even sneaky expressways like 164 that will run you out to Long Beach off of 210.

Grew up in San Diego and my sis still lives in La Mesa, plus
I'm a crazy Borrego addict. As a result I have found myself transiting LA a lot and even had relatives now and then who wanted to "see" LA or SD or both who roped me into meeting me at one or the other then caravaning around. It keeps on getting crazier and crazier.

Have a great relaxing trip...
We travel to B'ham to see family on T-day. It is a two hour drive...not too bad. We rarely go down there but both our families are there.
Enjoy your travels!
