Friday Night Photos Dia De Los Muertos Edtion

Happy Friday everyone. Hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

El Día de los Muertos is not, as is commonly thought, a Mexican version of Halloween, though the two holidays do share some traditions, including costumes and parades. On the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolves. During this brief period, the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to feast, drink, dance and play music with their loved ones. In turn, the living family members treat the deceased as honored guests in their celebrations, and leave the deceased’s favorite foods and other offerings at gravesites or on the ofrendas built in their homes. Ofrendas can be decorated with candles, bright marigolds called cempasuchil and red cock’s combs alongside food like stacks of tortillas and fruit.

Perhaps they are grateful to be dead
as in Grateful Dead? Who knows. Some
things get lost in translation.

I like the idea of the veil being lifted from the
nether regions to allow dead souls to enjoy
Taco Bells. Heaven can wait, but a good burrito
with salsa enhances what was once a gastronomic
pleasure. Although taste is relative, depending on the
decomposition of the tongue, one could surmise,
things just go better with coke
Like figuring out the next war plan

Tacos. Burritos. Now you're making me hungry. A burrito right about now sounds good.

Gaah!
I will never, ever, forget that Amarillo Mavericks concert. Musicianship
you hear once in a lifetime.
NOBODY sings better that Raul Malo, especially since Roy Orbison is gone.

@janis b We will see him on New Year's Eve. At first, the standing room only thing stalled us, but hell, it is The Mavericks. For Raul, we will suffer!

Thank you for the animated photos. There is something so enlivening about the celebratory nature of death in Mexico.

Here is a bouquet of flowers for all …

Hi all, Hey SP!

Hope it's all good over yonder!

Great photos SP. Of a very different sort of subject to photograph. Good job.

Beautiful flowers Janis. I was gonna say those look like Columbine at top, but ours are red.

Here is a Carolina Wren. Nevermind, getting an 'ajax' error...

I gotta fly anyway...

be well all!

My memory of Columbine were purely blue. I'd love to see a red one!

The Mexican celebration of the dead is such a festive one. I love that and all the colors, plus they know how to cook. Smile jb, love the flowers. Over at my 'home' site, TPW, we were celebrating Halloween with "Monster Mash" and plenty of Grateful Dead gems. I made a comment that you were not considered a serious (music) head if you didn't know Jerry and the boyz back in the day. They were iconic. Anywho, sure beats all the war crap. Rec'd!!

@orlbucfan

You prompted me to check out TPW. With regard to the current essay, although the author includes relevant context regarding Bernie’s position, I still don’t believe there is any valid defense for not asking for a ceasefire.

@Socialprogressive

I want to do at least two more visits, and we've been there three times. Great birding, beautiful beaches, coral reefs, Maya ruins, Spanish colonial cities ...what more could you want?

Hope you can get down there. It is fairly cheap for us to fly into Cancun.

As always you have great pictures!
