Imagine! All this time I thought Avogadro's number was the number an Aardvark
did on an avocado. Let's just say my primary education was somewhat lacking
in these regards.

Lots of good tunes today, thanks for the OT!

if Russia had been bombing Kiev for the last 10 days after cutting off all utilities and had told people that they either leave or they get slaughtered. And if they had been targeting every hospital there and told them that they had 24 hours to evacuate them before they started bombing them in earnest. Do you think that world leaders would be saying that Russia has the right to defend itself from the Kiev Nazis that had been bombing the Donbas for 8 years which are now part of Russia?

would WWIII already be over, would we have kept it conventional and watched Europe get decimated, or would NATO have backed down but tried to impose a total blockade of the Russian Federation.

Mole mileage varies.
I had a great weekend, but I am now in work mode, about as much fun as having you teeth pulled with pliers.
People are becoming more and more violent. I have had to call the cops to escort my own damn clients out of the office.
Oh well, if everyone were normal and perfect, I would have no clients.
Thanks for the OT, friend!

mole. We have had to trap a few in the yard, but that's seemingly over for now. Work wouldn't be called work if it weren't actually work. Try to get the satisfaction that you can out of the good you do and keep your head down. Meanwhile, like you said '''

soryang's picture

@enhydra lutris They must be pretty good traps. I've tried a couple and they didn't work. I've had a mole infestation here ever since a neighbor had a swimming pool put it. I think it was the noise of the construction equipment more than anything else that drove them all onto my yard. Can't get rid of them.

@soryang

not moles. I misspoke. Gophers are very territorial so you only get one per so many square yards. The gopher hawk trap is really good if you can find a relatively recent burrow - I think there are you tubes.

Noise, btw, will drive them away. A guy across the street would fill empty wine bottles with a couple of inches of water and bury the bottom few inches in an active burrow with the neck pointing up. The noise created by the wind blowing across the neck drove the gophers out of his yard and into one of the other neighbors'.

soryang's picture

@enhydra lutris Yes, I think the noisemakers work fairly well. I was using some solar powered ones, but eventually they stop working from weathering I guess usually in two or three months. I've also experimented with castor oil mixed with water, which is also fairly effective. After a couple of heavy rains, which are frequent here, the effect is gone. I don't use the poison baits because of the hazard. Ms. So grows food in the yard, and eventually water runoff ends up in the local storm drainage.

only work on relatively simple and short burrows where you can locate all the openings is to drop significant amounts of dry ice in each burrow opening. As it sublimates, the CO2 floods the burrow(s) because heavier than air and suffocates the critters.

@humphrey
I lean towards believing it has been with the USA's full knowledge. Weapons to Ukraine were always meant to be redistributed. All part of the plan to destroy Syria and Iran. I find it difficult to believe Israel had no knowledge of what was being planned by Hamas.

...we always celebrated Mole Day. If my memory serves it ends at 6:02 this evening.

I see it has its own website.

Mole Day was created as a way to foster interest in chemistry. Schools throughout the United States and around the world celebrate Mole Day with various activities related to chemistry and/or moles.

Hope you are all having a good one. Been busy here.

At the end of each semester, I managed to forget every damn thing I had learned.
I mean, no factoids, terminology, theory...not a thing stayed in my brain.
It was not as interesting as Shakespeare, or the French Revolution.
Bet you had lots of mole day fun, friend.

@dystopian

for chicken mole, and it's my week to cook. My current recipe for the mole

Ingredients(Makes about 1 1/4 cups):

1/2 cup black beans, drained and rinsed (cooked or canned)
2 Tablespoons tomato paste
1 1/2 Tablespoons white vinegar
5 Tablespoons honey (Use 1T brown sugar)
1/4 cup sugar (Use 1T)
1 Tablespoon cocoa powder (or grated unsweetened dark chocolate 1 to 1.5 T)
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (scant)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (heaping)
1/8 teaspoon mustard seed (use heaping 1.5t mustard powder ??)
~1/4 cup water (Use about 1/8 c vegetable stock)

Black Bean Mole Sauce Beans

Method:

Combine all of the ingredients except for the water into a food processor and blend until smooth.

Slowly add the water while blending until the sauce reaches a fluid yet thick consistency.

Heat up before serving. Scoop a generous amount over protein like chicken, adding stock to thin, and mix well. Store in freezer for long time storage, else fridge.
