Album of the Week 10-19-24

Afternoon folks!

Well, this week we're a little heavy on the blues rock, but we'll start out with a couple of blues records. Percy Mayfield starts us off with a compilation of some of his earlier recordings followed by New Orleans piano player Cousin Joe weighing in with a late career album from the mid-80's blues revival period. After that it's off to blues rock with an album from Mick Taylor (former guitarist for John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and the Rolling Stones), a live album from The Band, performing with some amazing horns, and a double album from the band Redbone. After that, there's an album from Parliament that somebody gave me years ago telling me it was great, so, well, you decide. Then there's some folk-rock from Lindisfarne and we finish off with some pure pop from Tommy James & The Shondells that's been lurking in my collection for years.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

UK Royal Wedding, Royal Baby - huge US coverage. Gigantic UK bank disaster - not a word.

Today, ten days after the proverbial SHTF, one day after a news-worthy gaffe-fest by the CEO of said bank, there was not one story about this trainwreck on Google News. I asked for "more world stories" and "more business stories", but zilch. To find the story, I typed "TSB bank" into the search bar on Google News.

A three party congress will almost certainly fail

Many of us have written about the necessity to abandon the two party system in favor of a multiparty system. Although a parliamentary system would be superior to the current set-up, providing it wasn't a duopoly, even a three-party system would most likely. This is a matter of simple arithmetic and past history. The Senate is easier to analyze for a few reasons. First, 100 is an easy number to deal, certainly handier than 435.

British MPs prove themselves every bit as corrupt as American counterparts

Brief note here on ongoing tragedy in Kensington.

The ashes aren't even cold yet and smoke fills the sky of London. Grenfell Towers, a high rise estate (British Council House) caught fire June 13, 2017 in a massive conflagration, which has predicted years before.
