The Seven Years' War (1756–1763) was a global conflict that involved most of the European great powers and was fought primarily in Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. Other concurrent conflicts include the French and Indian War (1754–1763), the Carnatic Wars (1744–1763), and the Anglo-Spanish War (1762–1763). The opposing alliances were led by Great Britain and France, respectively, both seeking to establish global pre-eminence at the expense of the other.

The geopolitics of Al-Aqsa Flood The Cradle by Pepe Escobar Oct 03, 2023
Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was meticulously planned. The launch date was conditioned by two triggering factors.
First was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flaunting his 'New Middle East' map at the UN General Assembly in September, in which he completely erased Palestine and made a mockery of every single UN resolution on the subject.
Second are the serial provocations at the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, including the straw that broke the camel’s back: two days before Al-Aqsa Flood, on 5 October, at least 800 Israeli settlers launched an assault around the mosque, beating pilgrims, destroying Palestinian shops, all under the observation of Israeli security forces.
...
Egyptian intel claims it warned Tel Aviv about an imminent attack from Hamas. The Israelis chose to ignore it, as they did the Hamas training drills they observed in the weeks prior, smug in their superior knowledge that Palestinians would never have the audacity to launch a liberation operation. The war has started The Cradle Oct 9, 2023
Hamas did not coordinate its military operation with any of its Resistance Axis allies. It also did not plan to achieve the stunning results that were soon to follow. The Qassam Brigades' immediate goal was only to destroy Israeli army positions around the Gaza Strip and capture as many soldiers as possible, which they could later exchange for the thousands of Palestinian captives in Israeli prisons. But the Palestinian resistance forces were taken by surprise at the laxity of the occupation army. Contrary to expectations, they stumbled upon security vacuums and poorly guarded military sites in which a large number of enemy soldiers and officers were fast asleep. It was this unexpected opportunity that prodded the Palestinian fighters to reach for bigger gains.
Hamas' military leadership planned to carry out this operation in complete secrecy. Just weeks earlier, their fighters had conducted military maneuvers/exercises that were observed by the Israelis. But Tel Aviv's rather complacent intelligence assessment had been that "Hamas is training for what it does not dare to do." The Israelis, in short, thought that Hamas was merely flexing in order to gain financial concessions for Gaza. No actual operation was ever expected by Israel's military brass.
Whatever happens next, Al-Aqsa Flood has already, irretrievably, shattered the hefty pop mythology around the invincibility of Tsahal, Mossad, Shin Bet, Merkava tank, Iron Dome, and the Israel Defense Forces.
...
The Israelis can merrily engage in collective punishment because, with three guaranteed UNSC vetoes in their back pocket, they know they can get away with it.
...
Elsewhere in the region, the Atlanticist drive of opening strategic corridors across the Five Seas - the Caspian, the Black Sea, the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf, and the Eastern Mediterranean - is floundering badly.
...
Al-Aqsa Flood has also just buried the recently-announced and much-ballyhooed EU-Israel-Saudi Arabia-India transportation corridor.
...
China is keenly aware of all this incandescence taking place only a week before its 3rd Belt and Road Forum in Beijing. At stake are the BRI connectivity corridors that matter – across the Heartland, across Russia, plus the Maritime Silk Road and the Arctic Silk Road.
This did not take long to be discredited.
Source of dubious ‘beheaded babies’ claim is Israeli settler leader who incited riots to ‘wipe out’ Palestinian village The Grayzone Oct 11, 2011
The Grayzone has now identified a key source of the claim that Palestinian militants beheaded Israeli babies. He is David Ben Zion, a Deputy Commander of Unit 71 of the Israeli army who also happens to be an extremist settler leader who incited violent riots against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank earlier this year.

Israel’s intel failure is 'bad for business' The Cradle Oct 13, 2023
The sheer scale and intensity of the Palestinian resistance's Operation Al-Aqsa Flood took Israel and the world by surprise last week. Even seasoned western intelligence agency veterans, who possess intimate knowledge of Israel's surveillance capabilities, struggled to provide any plausible explanation for the glaring security gaps.
...
Yet, despite this apparently formidable fifth column and Tel Aviv's construction of “a high-security barrier around Hamas’ stronghold in hemmed-in Gaza - buttressed by motion sensors and extending deep under the ground” - hundreds of Palestinian fighters were able to breach those defenses without difficulty. This they did from multiple fronts, using boats, tunnels, motorbikes, and paragliders, infiltrating ten occupation army bases, and killing hundreds of sleeping Israeli troops.
Al-Aqsa Flood involved arranging multiple rocket launch systems, ground forces, vehicles, and other equipment in sensitive positions in advance of its execution, leaving resistance fighters and their equipment exposed to surveillance from assorted angles, yet they were neither detected nor intercepted.
...
Last year, the Times of Israel reported that in 2021, the country’s overall cybersecurity exports were estimated at $11 billion. In addition, 33 percent of cyber unicorn companies operate from Israel, and a whopping 40 percent of global private cyber investments have been funneled into the country, according to the Israeli government.
...
In recent years, revelations of foreign governments and security agencies being implicated in scandals due to their covert use of Pegasus have become disturbingly routine. This invasive tool was developed by the NSO Group, founded by a former Mossad operative.A 2021 Carnegie Endowment investigation revealed that 56 different states had procured this technology, as well as other spyware and "digital forensics" innovations from Israeli competitors like Candiru, Cellebrite, and Cytrox.
...
Mere days before Operation al-Aqsa Flood commenced, Israeli media reported on a “record-breaking spike” in countries buying Israeli cyber warfare and intelligence systems from 67 to 83 over 2022, and marketing licenses for these wares granted to 126 countries.
...
Ironically, one of the most intriguing explanations proposed thus far is that Palestinians utilized Huawei smartphones for their digital communications. The much-maligned Chinese company has faced sanctions from the US and its international allies, ostensibly for being associated with the Communist Party.Yet it may be due to their refusal to insert backdoors into their technology and devices at the behest of western intelligence agencies.
It has been suggested that the satellite communication function of Huawei Mate 60 Pro, for instance, “allows the phone to make calls and transmit data without a network connection, thus avoiding the surveillance of Pegasus spyware.”

How a Gaza Marine Deal Could Benefit Palestinians, Israelis and the Region United States Institute of Peace August 3, 2023
Amid today’s dismal Israeli-Palestinian context, positive developments have been in short supply. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s June announcement of preliminary approval for the development of the Gaza Marine gas fields provided a rare glimpse of a potential win-win opportunity. For the Palestinians, it could provide a much-needed boost to their lagging economy and the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority (PA). On the Israeli side, it allows the Netanyahu government to claim it is assisting in improving living conditions in Gaza and could lead to less U.S. pressure on issues like settlement expansion.
...
It was 1999 when Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak first allowed exploration of the area, and the PA granted British Gas (BG) exploration rights. BG discovered the Marine 1 and Marine 2 gas fields about 22 miles off the coast of Gaza in 2000. The project has been on hold since then, yet another victim to the dynamics of the ongoing conflict and occupation. After Shell acquired BG in 2016, the Consolidated Contractors Company and the Palestinian Investment Fund acquired Shell's interest in the fields, with each party owning 50%.Negotiations were revived several times over the years. However, the project came back to the forefront following the Russian war on Ukraine and the ensuing global energy crisis. The recent effort is also inspired by the Israel-Lebanon maritime agreement and is encouraged by the establishment of the EastMed Gas Forum in which Egypt, Israel and Palestine are members, as well as the MOU to export natural gas from Israel to Europe via Egypt that was signed by Egypt, Israel and the European Union, who are still looking for alternatives to Russian gas.
...
Notably, the only official announcement regarding Gaza Marine was the one issued by Israel. This reflects the cautious approach of all the other parties, their recognition of the volatility of the situation, and the challenges that any constructive step will have to face. The question remains whether this effort will proceed and succeed, particularly in light of the extremist nature of the current Israeli coalition, and its uncompromising stance toward the Palestinians.
A little new info on another domestic conspiracy theory. Did the FBI secretly steal Civil War gold find as the treasure hunters claim? Associated Press has been keeping the CT story alive.
New witnesses share what they saw in the woods during a secretive FBI hunt for Civil War gold Associated Press News Oct 7, 2023
The FBI’s highly unusual search for buried Civil War-era treasure more than five years ago set in motion a dispute over what, if anything, the agency unearthed and an https://apnews.com/article/politics-war-and-unrest-pennsylvania-clearfie... over key records. There’s so much intrigue that even a federal judge felt compelled to note in a ruling last week: “The FBI may have found the gold — or maybe not.”
Now, two witnesses have come forward to share with The Associated Press what they heard and saw in the woods that late-winter morning, raising questions about the FBI’s timeline and adding plot twists to a saga that blends elements of legend, fact and science – and a heavy dose of government secrecy.
The FBI insists nothing came of the https://apnews.com/article/b8b4d27254814894b3a79aa3083fb356 in Dents Run, a remote wooded valley about 110 miles (177 kilometers) northeast of Pittsburgh. But a treasure hunter who led FBI agents to the hillside where an 1863 gold shipment might have been buried is challenging the government’s denials. How could the dig have come up empty, he asks, when the FBI’s own scans showed the likelihood of a buried metal mass equaling hundreds of millions of dollars in gold?
McCarthy, a 45-year-old elk guide, had never met treasure hunter Dennis Parada. But he watched from afar as Parada took the FBI to court and told his story in the media. McCarthy recently decided to share his own story because he thought Parada, who spent years looking for the gold before approaching the FBI with his findings, has been treated unfairly.
“I just felt like I needed to say what I saw, you know?” McCarthy explained. “I have no ties to anybody here. It’s just I felt like they were wronged.”

good morning...
Thanks for the news round up. I enjoyed Pepe's take.
Went to a small trade day with a bit of mist this morning. Bought another ryobi 18v tool in my ongoing collection...an air inflator for tires today...saves having to drag out the compressor or having to drive to the barn. Also bought a variety pack of bungees...always handy.
I only needed 4 gal of gas in my little GEO tracker, but couldn't resist the $2.80 price. GA really tries to keep their gas prices down. I think the AL price is about $3.20. I bet all the mess in the ME means higher prices coming at the pump.
While in town I went to the grocery for a few items. I normally do my big shop on Tuesday's after trade day.
The fall garden is doing well. Cabbage, collards, broccoli and lettuce all look good and are about ready for some harvesting. Still have green tomatoes. I pick them as they turn pink, or the birds will beat me to it pecking holes in them. Then let them ripen on the kitchen counter. Still lots of peppers. We plan on making pepper sauce this week, a nice red and green Xmas present for friends...and to use through the year. Sure adds a nice flavor to greens.
Thanks for the OT!

If Kennedy is beholden to Israel during the primary then will he be able to tell Bibi no when he decides to attack Iran? Getting rid of Saddam was Bibi's idea and I don’t doubt that he had something to win our destroying Libya and Syria too.
Bobby refuses to have any empathy for the people of Gaza who Israel has been ethnic cleansing for 75 nor for what they are going through right now with Israel slaughtering unarmed civilians. Almost 600 kids have been killed in one week.
Hell no this isn’t war. The Palestinians are being blamed for what Hamas did because they once voted for them in 2006 and no elections have been held since then. But also because they didn’t rise up and throw them out which I’m sure they know is impossible. Imagine Americans trying to rise up and throw the neocons out of government. That includes all the people in the war making think tanks. Yeah I bet that would go over just swell. How is Israel’s government calling Palestinians animals and non humans any different from what the Nazis called the Jews? Show me an inch of difference.
Yesterday HuffPost had a headline that stated that the state department told congress not to mention a cease fire or any words that calls for an end to the violence. Biden and the poodle leaders of the west are totally behind Israel slaughtering as many Palestinians as it wants.
Putin has said that what Israel is doing is just like what the Germans did to Leningrad where his older brother died. If Russia and Turkey are going to get humanitarian aid to Gaza they better do it quick or there won’t be anyone left who needs it.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
French & Indian War was part of the "Seven Years War", but
it meant that in the Colonies the conflict lasted nine years. (The Colonial western frontier was always restless, and French Canada was not slow to take advantage.)
A knock-on effect was the American Revolution, once Britain decided to recoup its war costs by taxing the Colonies for this that and other - no the trigger was NOT the slavery issue, no matter what the revisionists want you to believe. At most that was a secondary irritant to the southern Colonies - but the head of resistance was Massachusetts, where they were far more upset about these unexpected taxes.

Israeli settlers like it has the unprovoked attack by Hamas? Of course it won’t. This is just one of the many attacks that has happened in the last few days while the world is focusing on the carnage in Gaza.
And the Israeli settlers are still blocking Palestinians from the Al Aqsa Mosque. Of course the media isn’t reporting on this either.
Yesterday Israel told Palestinians to leave and then they bombed the cars that were trying to do just that. Where’s the fcking outrage about that? Israel better knock it the fck off or it’ll going to ignite the Sunni and Shiite (?) Muslims to join together against Israel. Why is it that Israel’s shit doesn’t stink?

There have been a lot of Lloyd Georges
but perhaps you might be thinking of William Lloyd Garrison? Wikipeedia: "William Lloyd Garrison (December 10, 1805 – May 24, 1879) was an American abolitionist, journalist, and social reformer. He is best known for his widely read anti-slavery newspaper The Liberator, which Garrison founded in 1831 and published in Boston until slavery in the United States was abolished by the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865."
(He was also a raving antisemite.)
David Lloyd George, incidentally, was Welsh.

Has anyone seen a poll that measures support for Israel's war vs. those in this country that support Palestinians? What group is in the minority?
This reminds me of the argument that Russia was unprovoked, and now Hamas was unprovoked.

Welp count AOC out for supporting Palestinians.
Disgusted with people who object to genocide. Jamaal? Maybe it’s you who should look in a mirror and see the evil looking back at you. People aren’t saying that they support what Hamas did. They are saying that they do not support wiping out every person living in the country they rule. I read that most of the leaders don’t live in Palestine, but in Qatar. Kinda hard for people to have access to them so they can rise up against when they can’t leave their fcking prison.
And it’d sure be nice if the media explained to the Israeli supporters how Bibi had a hand in creating Hamas. But then that would get people thinking why did he do that boneheaded move?
I think the latest poll shows that 25% of Americans support Palestinians. The tide is slowly turning. Lots of Jews took part in the NYC Palestinian demonstration.

I doubt that Israel will be held accountable for its war crimes.
the law of armed conflict
When I first became aware (years ago) that Israel bombed civilian areas in Gaza to "fight terrorists," I regarded the practice as presumptively disproportionate. What is the rationale for destroying buildings with heavy air to ground weapons where large numbers of civilians are present, including children? In any case, looking at the current situation as a whole, the object of the Israeli attacks appears to be ethnic cleansing, rather than a legitimate military campaign. In this sense it resembles various Israeli military campaigns since the 1940s. See Ilan Pappe's The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine.
Proportionality in the Conduct of Hostilities
Geneva Convention IV
Civilian hospitals organized to give care to the wounded and sick, the infirm and maternity cases, may in no circumstances be the object of attack but shall at all times be respected and protected by the Parties to the conflict.
https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/customary-ihl/v1/rule103#:~:text=inter....
There are many other prohibitions and principles of humanitarian law and the law of armed conflict implicated in the current Israel-Palestine conflict. It's not possible to address them all here. Norman Finklestein attempted to address some basics today on a JD video I saw without getting all legalistic which obscures the subject matter in terms of mass communications.
One of the things that is really concerning is the picture of US politicians, the president, and other officials appearing to encourage Israel's current brutal approach to Palestine. This could have been a golden opportunity to restore the US image abroad to some degree, by acting in a more impartial role, acting as a restraint on Israel's attacks on Palestine which jeopardize civilians, and make some effort to stop the conflict and bring the parties to some sort of cease fire, and dialogue. Instead, any objection to Israel's conduct is regarded as a "third rail" of US domestic politics, and additionally as a media opportunity for demagoguery. There is a lynch mob dynamic at work in these wars and the propaganda they generate. There is no reflection, no reservation, no restraint, as politicians grandstand and whip up base human emotions of revenge and bloodlust to further their ambitions.

No 'seem to be' about it. They want the genocide to happen. They are accessories to the ethnic cleansing and genocide. Ahh well. Roosevelt promised the Jews in his administration that the Jews could have all of Palestine and no Arabs would live in it. It’s just taken 75 years to accomplish that goal.

Hi soryang
Your observation touched me strongly. Like so many of us, I find it very difficult to understand why people, especially those with the power to do so, don’t try to resolve conflicts without adding more fuel to the fire. What can one expect with that type of approach but more tragedy for all. I wish there was a simple and harmless way to erase hatred and revenge from everyone minds.
Thank you
I've been discouraged about this
My briefings were popular among the pilots, I know they looked forward to them. This was not too long after the two wars, 67 and 73, which fortunately I had nothing to do with (or the Cyprus war shortly after). It was very frustrating not seeing progress on these issues beyond the worsening extreme plight of the Palestinian people over the decades under Israeli apartheid and settler policies. I have generally refrained from commenting on it.
I came across this Mearsheimer article that is a few years old, but I liked his conclusion. Too bad no one took his advice in the last two paragraphs.

I thought lobbies were for the public to gather in and mingle. Todays lobbies are confined to the incestuous activity between big business and the government, leaving no room for others. It’s so sad.
I’m sorry for the frustration and discouragement you feel, knowing that there are better solutions possible.

Hi Janis
My next door neighbor had some bad luck, in the heavy rains, a very large oak tree lost a large limb, as big as an ordinary tree really, and part of it fell on his home. Another large limb fell today but didn't hit the house. I know he doesn't have any insurance, and had been working on his house in his spare time for months after the Ian flood Sep 31, 2022. Ironically, there is a stupid MS program that keeps upholding photos I took after the Ian flood last year to document our damages for insurance purposes. It says something stupid like, relive the great memories from this date from your photo files on one drive. Today, I had a fishing email today from someone pretending to be MS. They say they are going to shut down my email. Anyway, the theme here is what weird thing is going to happen next.
I hope everything is going well at your home, and that you are on solid ground. Believe it or not there were other off beat events, I won't dwell on. With all the bad news around the world in the media... oh well. My home is mostly repaired. There are some things I have left undone, and still lots of unpacked items. We were going to move out this year, but the real estate prices are out of control, maybe next year.
I just learned from TK a Korean=American expert I follow that a famous journalist in South Korea from the JTBC media network just retired. His name is Son Seok-hee. I think he worked at JTBC since 2013. I started following him about a year or so after the Sewol Ferry disaster when I retired in 2015 and during the impeachment hearings on President Park Geun-hye. I really got a great foundation in modern Korean politics and history from him. I translated portions of his broadcasts every day and discussed them in a chat forum with some friends, who are no longer with us. When he went off the air in 2021, I was so upset. He was still president of JTBC news. He was voted the most trusted new source in South Korea for years.

I’ve never been north of Tampa, but from the map Odessa looks like alligator territory, not that alligators don’t rule much of Florida’s territory, or used to at least.
Finding the photos you personally took to document the flood in a foreign context is weird, but might be what can be expected these days of little privacy and AI interference. "To relive the experience", as if it is something positive, is positively unreal, but so is the hollowness of these non-human drives.
