Sanction Insanity

Open Thread Image.jpg

A study finds that the sanction regime often prolongs conflicts, collectively punishes whole populations and hinders third-party humanitarian efforts. Sanctions imposed by the US are nothing but war by other means. Ironically US sanctions are backfiring as nations dump the dollar and trade in their own currency...$114,500,000,000 in US Treasuries Dumped By China and New BRICS Member Saudi Arabia. All as US debt soars to the point that just interest payments are a trillion dollars a year and going higher.

Insanity-3337634199_0.jpg
“Iran’s reluctance to re-enter the 2015 nuclear deal after the US reneged on its promises of sanctions relief three years later is an example of this dynamic,” the study reported. “Iranian negotiators feared that the benefits of any deal involving sanctions relief would be short-lived given the risk that a future president might exit the agreement once again.”

Rather than promoting peace, human rights and democracy, US sanctions often achieve the opposite. That’s why many countries are trying to work around them, including banding together such as through Brics to de-dollarise.
...
A 2021 internal review by the US Treasury department found that the use of sanctions jumped by nearly 1,000 per cent between 2000 and 2021. In his second year in office, President Joe Biden sanctioned 2,500 new groups and individuals, almost double those of the Trump administration at the peak in 2018 – at 1,474 – and four times as many as the Obama administration at its zenith in 2016 – at 695. Almost one in four countries are sanctioned by the US in one form or another, affecting almost a third of the global economy. “Wary of the costs of heavy military engagements, [Washington] still tended to view sanctions as a muscular but low-cost and low-risk means of crisis management,” the report wrote.

“You create this event where the dollar were not clinging to the privilege of the world reserve’s currency,” says Andy Schectman, president and CEO of precious metals investment management company Miles Franklin. He claims that the U.S. government deliberately incentivizes de-dollarization to let the system collapse and reset in order to ease off the insurmountable debt issue. “We have $5 trillion in assets backing $155 trillion in debt... Forty percent of our assets are student debt,” he says. Additionally, he says the price of gold performs lower than it should because the Western system has suppressed the precious metal's price for a long time in order to support a bond market. “Gold is the antithesis of the Western system,” he argues.

sanctions-1680624814.jpg

Sanctions here and sanctions there...failing efforts to impose US hegemony on other sovereign countries. However, what we export comes home to roost. Just consider the storm trooper police we see in America today...peace keepers? No, enforcers. The idea of hitting the streets to reform or even revolt seems as futile as Ukraine's counter offensive.
Imagine their control with CBDC. They will use them to sanction and control us. You bought too much meat, or gas, or foreign products...your account is frozen until further notice. No need for firing a shot. They will use money.
Will COVID play a role in the release of CBDC in the US and elsewhere? You'll catch COVID from the bills. (Which like most COVID advice isn't true). Additionally, I suspect they'll use a UBI. Convert to CBDC and you'll receive a pittance of money worth ever less and less like in Argentina. Folks ain't gonna turn down free money in whatever form. We'll walk right into the trap.
So, we live in interesting times. We're witnessing a changing of the global guard as the US/Western empire continues to degrade and the new multipolar world emerges. Jeffery Sachs at the end of his Duran conversation compares his approach to Mearsheimer's view of the inevitability of conflict and war over global dominance. Jeffery contrasts that with China's approach of trade and cooperation. We should see who is correct within the next decade.
I hope you're all doing well, and are having a bit of fall weather. It's 60 F this morning here. As always I look forward to your thoughts, stories, and ideas below.

Sanctimonious sanctions indeed. This national debt debacle is destroying the value
of the dollar, seemingly on purpose by the money monsters. And the ploy extends to
the other western players. We are old enough to remember the value of a buck 50

I'm having some second thoughts about Tucker. The first one is the item referenced, that is, the runaway inflation in Argentina and the abject poverty of the people in a nation which is far from poor in terms of natural assets.

Tucker is quite the showman but as most showmen, a bit disingenuous and misleading. Afterall, he can't present a topic which is too complicated. Not because of the lack of intellect in the audience, more in terms of trying to do a complex topic in a short sound bite.

When he is standing at the window doing the exchange, he doesn't address the fact that he has the problem in hand. The dollar in one and the Argentinian currency in the other. Due to some very colonialism and influence in the courts and elected bodies, Argetinian economic dealings are done in dollars. Dollars which have a value set by an external banking system.

I know we are very concerned about the fake inflation we feel, that is, the wanton printing of dollars with no regulatory controls, no concern for our nation's interests. Imagine a foreign nation suffering from its own inflation on one hand and dollars in the other. Other nations are feeling the exact same crunch. Ref Niger.

Time for an example, one near and dear to my heart as I watched it unfold. A very good friend who is very talented in engineering works for a private complany and makes a decent income. Because he is very busy, he let his wife do the finances. She had a degree in mathematics, does high school teaching. But... (isn't there always a great big but in front of you when facing life?) She spent on so many things which added little value to their home and activities... All put on a credit card, or three.

He got the awakening when he needed some cash for lunch and the debit was refused. The cards were all at the limit. It took a couple of years to get the finances in order and he had to suffer thru an expensive divorce and child support... yeah, calif.

Picture Argentina. The world bank is its spouse. BRICs is their only escape and it will be expensive. The first step is the divorce. I very seriously wish them well.

Let's move on to part 2 now. Tucker's next interview is with the man who wants so very much to be the leader and "save the country". Unfortunately he is knee deep in the Friedman, Chicago school, Austrian economic camp. I won't bother with the link or CV. BTW, our wonderful neolibcons pretend to be unbiased... Huh. Believe that and.... BTW, he has a number of very large dogs, cloned and nurtured, the lead is named Milton. He pretends to be a maverick and opposes the gov't. A real rebel.

Maybe Tucker's real persona is peeking out of the fog.

Be well, please.

For years I viewed Tucker as one of the enemy spouting misinformation. However, I began to have respect when still on FAUX news he interviewed RFK, showed Jan 6 footage, pro Assange commentary, and anti Ukrainian war messaging. He's a rich kid with class blindness no doubt, but he is presenting some truth.

At least he attempted journalism. The rest of the MSM just reads the teleprompter.
Edit to add - I didn't watch the clip beyond the currency story, but I don't know the trick to place an end point for the clip.

The story of your friend makes me appreciate my penny pinching partner for these many decades. The only money we borrowed was for our mortgage which we paid off in 6 years living close to the bone. Then we converted to saving. We had no kids so that made it easier for us than most.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/17/world/north-korea-kim-leaves-russia-intl/...

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un received body armor and drones as parting gifts as he wrapped up a trip to Russia that has alarmed the West.

The send-off capped a rare, six-day visit that saw him hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, raising the possibility North Korea could provide Russia with weaponry to aid its invasion of Ukraine.

Kim travels little abroad and was given a lavish welcome, spending much of the trip visiting military sites. North Korea is heavily sanctioned and is in need of everything from energy to food to military technology.

As he left, the governor of the far eastern Russian region of Primorye gave him a bulletproof vest and a set of drones, Russian state media TASS reported.

“This is a body armor with protection zones for the chest, shoulders, throat and groin, and it is much lighter than its known analogs,” the state news agency added.

Kim was also presented with five kamikaze drones produced in the same region, as well as a Geranium-25 aircraft-type reconnaissance drone, TASS added. A set of special clothing that is invisible to thermal imaging cameras was an additional gift.

embrace of environmental movement as an economic necessity brought on by government debt.

ALL Wars are Banker's Wars in section 26:02-27:50.
summary
Aug 15, 1971 Ricard Nixon suspended conversion of gold for $35 in notes. It ended Bretton Woods and US lost ability to collateralize US debt with gold reserves.

Nixon founded the environmental movement to use public land to collateralize debt. EPA (Environmental Protection Area) and its various programs like Wilderness Zones, Roadless Areas, Heritage Rivers, wetlands and other little programs made vast areas of public lands off limits to citizens. The mineral resources could then be used as collateral on government loans.

The petrodollar was formalized shortly afterwards.

I don’t get it. Why are so many people supporting Ukraine instead of pushing for ways to stop the war and the massive amount of deaths when they were once against wars all together? Was the million minutes of hate for Russia Russia Russia that was shoved down their throats along with Orange Man Bad? Ukraine has been known as one of the the most corrupt countries in the world, but suddenly they are beloved by millions. The sanctions on Russia has driven up prices for just about everything, but for some people it’s worth it just so they can support Ukraine.

Speaking of sanctions it looks like they go both ways. Russia and the Saudis are cutting oil production and driving up gas prices here and there in order to get around NATO's price caps.
