“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”
Pablo Picasso

HA HA the joke is on us.

As the power of the Presidential executive branch has grown and usurped congressional authority the power of the individual elected president has decreased.

President Jack Kennedy wielded enough power he was assassinated. His brother Robert killed to prevent his acquiring presidential power. By the time Trump came along there were plenty of methods to diminish the ability of a sitting president to govern. An international medical emergency created new opportunities to by pass a president. Biden has shown the human mind elected to the position is not too important, just need a warm body to walk to a podium and speak occationally. Being able to stay on point with a teleprompter is no longer a requirement.

Per the Guardian Disney v DeSantis dispute hinges on clause referencing King Charles III

A dispute between the Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, and Disney over control of the company’s Florida theme park district hinges on a clause referencing King Charles III and his descendants.
...
In February, the Florida state house passed a bill to end the unusual status that allowed Disney World to govern itself. Under the status, Disney World had its own police and fire departments, planning powers and some other public functions.
...
The bill gave DeSantis the power to appoint the five members of the board that controls government services for the Reedy Creek district.

“We’re going to have to deal with it and correct it,” board member Brian Aungst said of the last-minute agreements on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. “It’s a subversion of the will of the voters and the legislature and the governor. It completely circumvents the authority of this board to govern.”

In a statement, Disney said: “All agreements signed between Disney and the District were appropriate, and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida’s ‘Government in the Sunshine’ law.”

Buckingham Palace declined to comment.

No mention as to when Prince Harry and Megan are moving from California, home of Disney Land, to Florida, home of Disney World and into Cinderella's Palace. Ironically both land masses were originally claimed by Spain. The catholic enemy of protestant England.

At his finest.

Did They Light Up a Cigarette Afterward?

The New York Times enjoyed its long-delayed tantric Trumpgasm so much today that it rolled out the full-page banner headline format usually reserved for the commencement of world wars. (They took the banner down before seven o’clock this morning.) For many of the cat-ladies employed as “reporters” at the once-august paper, it was the first Trumpgasm they’ve ever experienced in a lifetime of emotional displacement, over-eating, and furious knitting of pink polyester hats for the crusade to root out patriarchal wickedness.

This fulfillment of a years-long psychodrama, starring the feared and loathed occult persona of a gold-coiffed “Daddy” figure who once presided in the political household, came at the hands of dragon-slayer Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, archetype of the many long-oppressed victims worked to death in the bilges of our slave ship of state — now turned righteous Woke deliverer of cosmic vengeance!

This oh-so-satisfying climax, of course, is brought to you by the party of hoaxes, flimflams, and mandated death shots, so it’s amusing here on the sidelines to see The Times’s op-ed writers squirm with post-coital pleasure underneath the full-page Trumpgasmic headline. The lead editorial declares: “Even Donald Trump Should Be Held Accountable”— overlooking the utter absence of accountability that has been the norm in every recent insult to the nation’s dignity from wholesale and repeat election fraud, to six years of lawless depravity in the FBI, to overt support of Antifa and BLM street havoc.

“How a President’s Arrest Can Strengthen a Democracy,” honorary cat-lady Nicholas Kristof opined, repeating the bad-faith trope that his legions of Wokery have an interest in political rectitude — when, in fact, they are solely preoccupied with coercing, censoring, cancelling, persecuting, punishing, and defenestrating anyone who objects to their grifts and hustles. “Only love and a leap of faith can break through distrust. That is why a credible form of patriotism is so important right now,” explained The Times’s official Superintendent of Platitudes, David Brooks, to soothe consciences grated by this loutish gambit to shove a political adversary off the game board in advance of an election. “Joe Biden may not be your cup of tea,” Mr. Brooks summed up his civics lesson, “but he’s restored sanity, effectiveness and decency to the White House.”

Oh, really? That will surely come as news to casual observers who are watching the “Joe Biden” wrecking crew in wonder and nausea as they dismantle every institution and undermine every norm in American life. A more credible form of patriotism would be, say, a general strike against this cabal of degenerates, serving to remind the cabalists that at least half of the public still cares about the Constitution, the rule of law, and actual decency (not a depraved simulacrum of it). Otherwise, why would “Joe Biden’s” DOJ lock-up scores of Jan 6 protesters in the DC Jail for years on misdemeanor charges without taking them to law? Why does the “Joe Biden” State Department persist in destroying Ukraine and pounding billions in taxpayer money into the place to accomplish it? Why has the “Joe Biden” regime adopted the drag queen as its mascot? What part of all that evinces “sanity, effectiveness and decency”?

Clusterfuck Nation Indeed.

Just like Pelosi used the smallest amount of crime to impeach Trump when he had done more worse things like every president before him, Bragg has really reached on what he’s indicting Trump for. Especially when it’s only a misdemeanor and the statute of limitations is only 2 years. Federally charging him only has a 5 year statute and the previous DAs and the justice department both declined to prosecute him. As they say it’s easy to indict a ham sandwich, getting a conviction is going to be interesting to watch.

@snoopydawg

The Justice Department itself declined to prosecute the federal election claim against Trump. There was ample reason to decline.

The Justice Department went down this road before and it did not go well. They tried to prosecute former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on stronger grounds (which I also criticized) and failed. In that case, campaign officials and donors were directly involved in covering up an affair that produced a child.

At the time, Edwards’ wife was suffering from cancer. The prosecution still collapsed. The reason is that you need to show the sole purpose for paying hush money in such a scandal. For any married man, let alone a celebrity, there are various reasons to want to bury a sexual scandal.

Various presidents from Warren Harding to Bill Clinton have been involved in efforts to hush up affairs. They also had different reasons for burying such scandals, including politics. However, scandals are messy matters with a complex set of motivations. Showing that Trump only acted with the future election in mind — rather than his current marriage or television contracts — is implausible. That was likely the same calculus made by the Justice Department.

That is also why the use of the “bootstrapping” theory as the primary charge would be an indictment of the prosecution and its own conduct. The office has already been tarnished by the conduct of the prosecutors who pushed this theory

Clinton wasn’t charged for perjury, but he was impeached without conviction. And again why hasn’t Obama been charged for murdering 2 Americans that he decided to during his kill list Tuesday?

between my personal projects and events within society at large. In this case it is the way the decisionators arrive at their decisions, what they use to base the reasons (rationalizations might fit better) for deciding what they do decide.

But before I start, I noticed that my old stomping grounds were in the target last evening, a couple deaths. Later today I'll connect with those I abandoned to see how they fared. I remember our encounter with the wrath of the gods. In that case the twister missed our home by a hundred yards or so. We had no basement so we huddled in a first floor half bath. As we heard the freight train in the sky I opined... here I am, about to die hugging the love of my life in with one arm and a toilet with the other. It was a near miss, too near. I don't miss Indy.

Back to the intersection. I read an article in the Guardian this AM (occasionally there's a pearl in that chicken coop), where an opinionator was talking about ChatGPT:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/apr/01/chatgpt-write-code..."

Programmers, beware: ChatGPT has ruined your magic trick
John Naughton

Benedict Evans, a tech analyst whose newsletter is required reading for those who follow the industry, made an interesting point this week. He had, he said, been talking to generalist journalists who “were still under the impression that ChatGPT was a trivial parlour trick and the whole thing was about as interesting as a new iPhone app”. On the other hand, he continued, “most people in tech are walking around slowly, holding on to the top of their head with both hands to stop it flying off. But within that, I think we can see a range of attitudes.”

We certainly can – on a spectrum ranging from the view that this “generative AI” is going to be the biggest bonanza since the invention of the wheel, to fears that it augurs an existential risk to humanity, and numerous opinions in between. Seeking a respite from the firehose of contradictory commentary, I suddenly remembered an interview that Steve Jobs – the nearest thing to a visionary the tech industry has ever had – gave in 1990, and dug it out on YouTube.

The video he references by Jobs is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmuP8gsgWb8 I tried to do an insert but it's restricted. Continuing the article which quotes Jobs:

“And so for me,” he concluded, “a computer has always been a bicycle of the mind – something that takes us far beyond our inherent abilities. And I think we’re just at the early stages of this tool – very early stages – and we’ve come only a very short distance, and it’s still in its formation, but already we’ve seen enormous changes, [but] that’s nothing to what’s coming in the next 100 years.”

This is my intersection. As I mentioned in a different thread: "I have the most awesome piece of hardware that I have ever encountered that has a window into the greatest encyclopedia in the history of the world and I can hold it in the palm of my hand."

All this potential...

My most frustrating experiences I had was when dealing with those who defined the requirements of a computer function. And then refused to recognize a failure of performance when it always occurred. Disgusted customers, lack of support, etc.

Oh well, back at it later today. Trying to work out my backup requirements as my changes in lifestyle show weaknesses. The old approach is showing a bit of rust around the edges.

Stay safe, the gov't definitely has your back.

(added on edit) I found one comment by mqmark interesting:
https://profile.theguardian.com/user/id/1568501

This seems to contradict an article Naughton wrote just a few months ago, saying that it would not replace programmers. And I was in much more agreement with that one. "Writing" the code is the easy bit; making sure it's the RIGHT code is rather harder.

I recently tested chatgpt on a particular problem, asking it to generate code in 3 different languages. (In the real world, the choice of languages is often mandated by where the code needs to fit into existing packages, or other libraries it needs to work with.)

The Python version looked OK; the C version wasn't bad, even if it used unsafe functions like strcpy; but the NodeJS version was complete garbage. Superficially it looked reasonable, but it used nonexistent libraries and completely wrong logic even if those library methods had existed to do something approximating their names. Someone who didn't know about the domain might never be able to debug that NodeJS "program".

If I could relate an anecdotal experience... When I was the admin on one of our Unix boxes a contractor was insisting on having root access to the machine. He had been having a memory access problem, wandering outside his sandbox. I suggested he debug his program. My boss said to give him root because they were behind schedule.

It ran fine afterwards. So I guess I was wrong.

Defendant Attempted to Suppress Vote Through Social Media Disinformation Campaign

Douglass Mackey, also known as “Ricky Vaughn,” was convicted today by a federal jury in Brooklyn of the charge of Conspiracy Against Rights stemming from his scheme to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote. The verdict followed a one-week trial before United States District Judge Ann M. Donnelly. When sentenced, Mackey faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and Michael J. Driscoll, Assistant Director-in-Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI), announced the verdict.

“Mackey has been found guilty by a jury of his peers of attempting to deprive individuals from exercising their sacred right to vote for the candidate of their choice in the 2016 Presidential Election,” stated United States Attorney Peace. “Today’s verdict proves that the defendant’s fraudulent actions crossed a line into criminality and flatly rejects his cynical attempt to use the constitutional right of free speech as a shield for his scheme to subvert the ballot box and suppress the vote.”

He was arrested within 7 days after Joe Biden's inauguration for negatively influencing Hillary's campaign over 4 years earlier.

He was charged with conspiring in a misinformation campaign aimed at Black voters during the 2016 presidential election.

Mackey, 31, faces one federal charge of disseminating information “designed to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote,” and could face a sentence for up to 10 years. He appeared in court Jan. 27 and was released on a $50,000 bond.

@humphrey Newsweek March 31, 2023 fact checking.

That reporting, published on March 9, cites unnamed "Ukrainian insiders" and "online platforms," but provides no further proof or corroborating evidence.

While claims made by the opposing sides during this conflict are notoriously unreliable and difficult or even impossible to verify, there is little to suggest that a NATO "bunker" had been hit in the strike, or that one even exists.
...
Misinformation Watch has not been able to find any authoritative sources or reliable evidence that would corroborate the unsourced Telegram claims and ProNews' reporting (and the dissemination of this narrative by Russian state-linked sources raises further suspicions).

While that does not entirely rule out the possibility that such a hit took place, there is little evidence to suggest that it did. Furthermore, the scale of the purported casualties (up to 300 people, according to some of the reports) would have been very difficult to conceal, especially if the vast majority of them had been Western nations' citizens.

False, misleading, and unevidenced claims as well as outright propaganda, often targeting NATO and seeking to undermine Western support for Ukraine, have become a hallmark feature of this conflict, as reported widely by Newsweek and others.

One of the original mentions March 9, 2023 at The Intel Drop is a reminder the timing is when common discussion was Ukraine forces potential plan to invade Transnistria for old Soviet Union weapon stores.

2nd Kinzhal Attack Hits NATO’s Western Command Center 80 meters Underground, 40 Killed

As NATO fly’s its spy planes along the Moldavian/Transnistrian (Priednestrovie) border collecting data for the Ukrainians, their troops are positioning themselves to invade Transnistria in Moldova’s breakaway region. A significant build-up of Ukrainian personnel and equipment including setting up of artillery positions and an “unprecedented” increase of drone flights over the region indicate the preparation for an invasion of the sovereign territory that was declared independent in the early 1990s. Half of Transnistria’s 500,000 residents have Russian citizenship.

Zambian Opposition Leader: US ‘Killed Our Leaders,’ Now They’re ‘Coming to Teach Us About Democracy’

An African politician’s fierce condemnation of the American government "killers" who ordered many of the continent’s governments overthrown and their leaders killed has gone viral as US Vice President Kamala visits the region in an effort to reign in African nations who’ve chartered an independent foreign policy path and declined to join Western economic sanctions on Russia.

"The killers of Patrice Lumumba, those who toppled Kwame Nkrumah, those who killed Nasser, those who killed Muammar Gaddafi, today are coming to teach us about democracy," explained Fred M’membe, president of the Socialist Party of Zambia, in a speech given March 23 at the International Forum on Democracy in Beijing.

"A country that has toppled so many governments in Africa, that has led so many coups in Africa and other parts of the world, a country that has killed so many of our leaders in Africa and other parts of the world," M’membe continued, in a blistering critique of US double standards.

"It’s not democracy and human rights they are pursuing in Africa. They are pursuing their geopolitical interests. They are pursuing their own economic interests. It is not for us—it is for them."

Watch her face as he speaks. Smile

I’m loving how so many countries are speaking their minds about our hypocrisy in this rules based order.

@humphrey

Donald Trump was just indicted…but why?

Yes, a campaign finance violation. That’s all. Much smaller names have had much bigger crimes swept under the rug.

Hell, Hillary Clinton’s campaign was found guilty of the same exact crime over their commissioning the ridiculous “Steele Dossier”. No arrests, just a fine…and they were literally trying to spread misinformation to swing an election.

Well, there are two schools of thought on that subject, or rather two competing narratives.

The liberal media/democrat/Twitter crowd story is that Donald Trump is a dangerous-quasi dictator who attempted a coup in January 2021 and that he should be punished and persecuted for any possible crime in any conceivable way to ensure he never comes anywhere near political power ever again, lest he turn into Literally Hitler.

The Republican/Fox News story is that Joe Biden’s administration – and the political establishment in general – is conducting a witchhunt against Trump to either prevent his running for President in 2024, or so discredit him with the electorate that he cannot win.

Which of these stories is true? Well, neither. Or at least, neither make any sense.

The former is clearly the kind of deranged thinking we’ve all become accustomed to since 2015 first introduced us to Orange Man Bad, and I will waste no time refuting it again.
……

It will entrench both sides, create division and fuel bitter online debates. It will be used to reinforce the illusion of difference between the political parties, or sell the idea that the system works and no one is above the law. To act as fertiliser for more stories down the road, be they further criminal proceedings against Trump, or another “violent insurrection”. Maybe both.

It won’t end, it will just keep building on itself. An eternal circus, full of infinite clowns in a neverending pie fight. Pick a side if you want, but you’ll never get anything but messy.

Meanwhile, the real problems persist. The real policies endangering ordinary people – and pushed by Republicans and Democrats alike – will continue to spread. A prison being built up around us.

So, why was Trump indicted?

To give people something to talk about.

Why else has Trump been in the news every day for the last 2 years if not to keep him in front of both his supporters and those who think that he was the 2nd coming of Hitler? Democrats, their media mouthpieces and the shitlibs couldn’t wait for him to be out of office and yet they have written about him daily. Plus the story about his violent insurrection attempt that didn’t include the military or anyone packing guns.

You gotta wonder why if Trump was such a bad president then why has Biden continued to do the things that Trump put in motion and why isn’t the media calling him on it like they did when Trump was president? Frankly I’m disgusted with the both of them. And meanwhile Biden told Schumer not to protest republicans ending every program that helped the poorest people and cutting them off of food stamps and Medicaid. Republicans only hold the house and yet they are setting Biden’s agenda.
