Rentiers-The Movie
The Movie "Oppenheimer", due to be released in July is getting much fanfare as a classic American Hero saga celebrating the struggle to create a weapon to end WW2.
Will Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, be portrayed as a hero or a reluctant and tragic character haunted by his creation?
Today we know there was no need to vaporize Nagasaki or Hiroshima as it served no military purpose, other than to show the world how badass we were. America - f_ _ k yeah!
But since the Swamp has this penchant for re-writing history, especially through the lens of Hollywood, he is sure to be projected as a true-blue American Hero.
It will be released in July of 2023, but I'm not sure I will waste my last remaining good dollars on more pseudo-history or slanted hero worship.
Guardians of the Galaxy is much more entertaining.
I've seen the rework done on "Patton", who was exposed as something less than heroic by modern historians such as Andrei Martyanov.
The accolades given to Reagan, for starting the freefall of American rules and regulations on big business, were wholly unearned.
Obama, given the Nobel peace prize for starting wars in three countries and a threatening pivot towards China was an insult on all former recipients.
And the infamous Stephan Bandera, given the honor of omission in the Ukraine debacle. Can't wait for the "Nazi Lives Matter" signs being swung thru the streets of world capitals.
The recent revelations of the blatant fraud of House Representative George Santos fabricating his entire life, is welcomed to government and given committee assignments. Apparently, he is considered well qualified by Republicans and Democrats.
Birds of a feather........
And don't get me started on the burgeoning "failing up" trend happening in government and business. Wish that would trickle down to the working class.
Naw, we just need to stop that practice immediately.
The cancer of greed and corruption is infused in governments throughout the western world and is becoming idolized as right and desirable, the "rules based order".
This charade is leading us to extinction.
The younger generations haven't a clue what real war against real peer opponents is like.
They may soon find out. But don't blink, you could miss it.

Cillian Murphy's face seems to have been optimized from birth to convey pathos, and the historical truth was that Oppenheimer was very much haunted by what had been done in the rush to the bomb. That was multiplied by a factor of ten once the government started hounding him after the Trinity work was done.
I can't imagine Murphy doing a happy-happy-joy-joy thing. But I'll bet that any whitewashing that is done will be to expunge the way Oppenheimer was treated once he had exceeded his usefulness, and the effort was redirected to implement Teller's "super" (the hydrogen bomb, which Oppenheimer rather vehemently opposed as being unnecessary) at all costs. Betcha they don't say a word about his supposed "Communist sympathies", or the way he was summarily stripped of and barred from any further opportunities for work in the field afterwards.
I had the pleasure of taking an undergraduate high energy physics class from Vera Kistiakowsky, who was (along with her Ukranian
husbandfather George) on Oppenheimer's staff during the race to the Gadget. She had a lot to say about his mental state after the Trinity test: it was a brutal thing for all of them. Russia even tried to join NATO twice, once at Yalta in 1946, iirc, and recently after the fall of the USSR.

Years ago I read about the infiltration of
the CIA in movies. Production advisors, script advisors, and so on. As long ago as that has been, I remember it because the article described the CIA's involvement in the filming of "Hello Dolly!"
The shock of them infiltrating a damn musical was what blew me away.
If they can advise on a musical, just imagine how muscular they will be inserting propaganda in this Oppenheimer film.

I know what you mean
I a longtime fan of Ken Burns documentaries until his Vietnam War series and the complete omission of the CIA involvement. It changed my perspective of his past works entirely.
I guess their tenacles reach far and wide.
As an addendum, The Vinyard of the Saker (Andrei Raevsky) is shutting down at the end of February. I for one will miss him and the contributing community that blessed his blog.
Although he notes that his family needs more of his time and his health is a concern, his fear that the US government may revoke his status here should the West go to war with Russia. Although he is a Swiss native.

The recruitment goons showed up in some village. All the "eligible" men that could be taken and sent to their deaths were all gone. Funny that. The Ukraine government wants EU governments with male refugees to forcibly send men of "draft age" back to the Ukraine.
